Geometry Wars is the Live Arcade Halo.

45000 x $5 = $225000

Holy shit, that's a good chunk of change for Bizarre (after costs). And its not like sales of this game is gonna stop anytime soon as more systems become available.

Big time, Geo Wars rocks. Is it a Live Arcade exclusive? If not Nintendo better ask them to jump on the virtual console bandwagon.

Yeah, I would imagine Geometry Wars will end up selling around a couple hundred thousand over a couple years. Crazy easy money. Live Arcade could end up being a great outlet for indie style games. The service is getting a nice mix between old time arcade ports and new content.

Arcade should probably take off in a few months when people get more familiar with this new way of buying games.

Arcade already has a ton of great titles and I can see myself buying almost all of them when im done with the games I got at launch.

Well deserved. Geo Wars Evolved is more compelling gaming than the entire 360 lineup at retail right now.

Geo Wars is quite the game, but i've found myself putting more hours into Outpost Kaloki X. Taking out the layout portion of a game like sim city or a tycoon game, really speeds up the gameplay for the console. This is especially important in the survival or military levels, where you need to fix stuff and put up defenses really fast.

Only complaints are that the soundtrack gets really old fast (but i put on my own music anyhow) and that the character designs aren't all that compelling.

Kaching, better than the 360 retail lineup? Sheesh, haterade is deep at GAF.
How is what I said haterade? How is declaring one game more compelling than a number of others any different than the endless GOTM/GOTY declarations around here?

I don't understand the praise the game gets. I've bought it and played a few hours and it doesn't seem all that different from other games of its type. I mean it's good and awesome for the price, but I don't see where the OMGBESTGAMEEVER comes from?

I can not think of a more feature rich and enjoyable launch to date. I can't wait to see what Sony pulls out of the bag. X360's Arcade and very strong lineup of launch titles has set the bar very high for me. Geometry Wars is just very sweet icing on the cake.

Costs? AFAIK, it was made by a single developer and as a free-time project. I call this heroic games development :)
I meant more like the bandwidth of 200000 people downloading the game. BTW, was Retro Evolved a free-time thing too? I know the original was, but was the sequel?

Outpost Kaloki X is brilliant. Without Live Arcade I never would have played it. The first game I bought over Live Arcade! :D I will buy the new scenerio in a day or two after I finish the main scenerios, the developer has earned my support! Outpost Kaloki X is my favorite Live Arcade game at the moment.

Seemed like a thinly veiled troll to me. It still is a strange comment to hear. But I guess buying a $400 console for a simple, 5 dollar game is a great complement to the game.

I <3 this game so much.

Mr.Bob,you stink at Geo Wars, makes me feel good after all the ass whoppings you have given me in DOA4 :P

And since we know the spring ps3 launch date in the US is pretty much BS, Sony will be launching against quite a stable of titles when they hit in the fall. (even though i'm sure they'll try just to compare launch lineups) A few of the major 360 titles for the year will already have hit lower prices. (Gears for 29 against full price ps3 stuff, that might be pretty hard for westerners to pass up if they're still trying to pick a console)

Gears will probably release in the fall so I doubt it will be a $29.99 game. However, there are a ton of great games already here and coming. No matter what PS3 does, the X360 will be a great system.

I didn't declare the other games shit, Bobbo. I *am* a bit surprised that I can't really find a game among the lineup at retail right now that entertain as well as Geo Wars does and I thought that was worth mentioning for perspective.

Xbox 360 Live Arcade just plain rocks in general. Cheap games, all with Achievements, many (including classic arcade games) with online multiplayer and voice chat. What a great product. It's one of the things that really makes the Xbox 360 stand out.

good for bizarre. i hope they'll put some work into a better-balanced sequel, and that this encourages other developers to make simple 2d shooting games for live arcade.

I love Xbox Live Arcade. Yes, I'm the 87th person to say that in this thread alone, but it really is that awesome.

^^^^^^^^^^^ exactly my thoughts. I have completed several of the games on the 360 and yet I have spent more time playing GW.

To put this in perspective though, $225000 wouldn't cover the costs for the PGR team for a single month. Still, it would be a success for a team of 3 or 4 people working on their own putting their own game on the service.

Wasn't this game made in the freetime of Bizarre employees?

Yup. The coding was one guy, and a few others pitched in and helped for the sound, music, etc in their spare time, according to bizarre.

Even GW:RE was worked on by a few people this time around, the three sound guys (Nick, Nick and Mathias) did a great job on all the sound effects, we had Chris Chudley at Audio Antics, who's creating some of the music for PGR3 create the music for GW:RE, and then on top of that there's the artwork for XLA, the documentation work, and all the production stuff...

Your $5 multiplier is a little high. There's a good number of people buying the 1600 Microsoft Points cards at retail stores. I'm assuming retail takes 25% or so of the $20 price, and therefore MS is probably seeing more like $4 per 400 points in those instances.

Also consider that MS has a fee for hosting and maintaining a game on XBLA. Developers do not realize the entire MS Points valuation that they're charging for the game. I'm not sure how this plays out between first-party and third-party developers though.

Mutant Storm Reloaded > Geometry Wars.

Power-Ups, difficulty settings and actual level design FTW.

(Yes, I know I'm in the minority...)

I love both of em, GW has a great 1 player appeal, but MSR is awesome fun for 2 players at the same time.

My girl and I love playing it together almost everyday.

Of course. :) Just pointing out the scale. I hope that guy who made it gets a good chunk of the profits or at least a very nice bonus.

I'd buy Geo Wars 2 for $10 if that is what it was priced at.

They still claim spring, but who knows. Oblivion or COD2 could easily be a reduced price by then.

Here's an anecdote to describe Geo Wars in all its glory. I was playing all night long two nights ago, and was really just knocking my head against the wall by barely reaching 500K most games. But I was having fun listening to music (DEVO!!) while playing, so I kept at it until I was almost literally sick of the game. Had to be a 5 hour session. I ran through the entire DEVO catalog.

Last night I was playing a little XBLA and even though sick of it, decided to play a game or two of Geo Wars before signing off. First game about 550K. Next game about 700. For some reason I was in the zone last night, seeing several moves ahead of me and navigating better than I ever have. Every game thereafter was +700K. Sick of the game or not, I HAVE to ride this hot streak for all it's worth, and I played until 7:30AM! I also ended up with a new personal best of 1.3 million, so the lack of sleep was well worth it! :D

I like Geometry Wars and think it's top-notch stuff for the $5 price. I'd just like someone to explain the depth and awesomeness of the title that would still make it good if it were $20 or even $30. Hell, my high score after a few hours was only like 180k so maybe I'm playing it wrong because after 150k or so all I see is a bijillion lights and then I die ^^; I have no clue how people get higher and still see what the hell is going on.

Your not alone, MS rocks, I like it alot better (cause im weak sauce).

I'm not the least bit interested in the 360 lineup, but I'm considering the system a price drop or two down the road just for Live Arcade (assuming the content is there).
