In my dreams GRRM would have a car accident during a snow storm, then get rescued by his biggest fan and after his recovery he won't be able to return home but will be forced to finish "Winds of Winter" and "A Dream of Spring". If he doesn't cooperate, he will lose all access to live American Football broadcasts. Or he'd be hobbled. Whatever scares him most. Just force that fat fuck to finish the damn books.
Disappointing to see the show story continue while Winds continues to go unfinished.
Edit: I understand you can't force creativity and sometimes you're hit with inspiration and that produces good writing and other times you just aren't feeling producing certain material but the wait for Winds is getting crazy.
He was always more interested in writing for television than he was in writing books. Guess he just couldn't resist following his dreams when he got a big break.

I don't mind this, but his name is so big at this point that HBO should let him make a different fantasy property. It is extremely odd building a cinematic universe around a show that ended in a wet fart.
HBO should have just purchased the rights to an Elden Ring tv show.

Every new GRRM project based on A Game of Thrones is a raised middle finger to his most loyal, most patient longtime fans. I read the first book of the series months before it was first published, I got the UK ARC (Advance Reader Copy) early for a book review and I absolutely loved that book. I think that particular edition must be very rare, I could only find one image of it on Google Images.
My 1st print US HC of "A Game of Thrones" is still unread and pristine for that reason. It's been almost 30 years since I read the first book in the series and I'm getting really tired of GRRM's endless procrastination. I of course realize that GRRM will never finish the series, but it's still galling to hear about other projects he's working on when he could have worked on ADwD instead.
We've had progress reports for years. None of it matters because we don't know how much of what he's written is finalized.
A normal person you would give the benefit of the doubt on a figure like that, but it's been 15 years. George has long since run out of rope. The story's not real until it's with the publisher.
