A rock music festival in western Germany, Rock am Ring, is being evacuated over a "terrorist threat", the organisers have announced.

Fans began streaming out of the venue in Nuerburg after the organisers asked them to leave "in a calm and controlled manner".

"Due to a terrorist threat the police have advised us to interrupt the festival," they said.

A bomb at a concert in Manchester claimed 22 lives last month.

Some 85,000 people were expected to visit the three-day festival, Efe news agency reports. It falls on the Pentecost holiday weekend.

The organisers said in a Facebook post they hoped the festival would resume on Saturday.

This shit just keeps happening. In a few years I wonder if there will even be organized events of any kind anymore. Whether due to security that makes airports look sane or purely cost, I fear we are seeing the death of large gatherings.

I feel like we haven't had a terror wave in Europe like this since the 80's when the Palestinians kept fucking around.

There needs to be increased deradicalization programs in all disenfranchised muslim-majority neighborhoods of Europe. And the EU needs to put social media giants like youtube, whatsapp, and twitter in line and force them to do something about the ways that Islamist groups use their platforms to organize, recruit, and communicate. It's simply not ok for social media to be used as a radicalization tool be it with Islamists or white supremacists/republicans in America.

I'm usually anti-censorship but in this case something extreme needs to be done, like maybe even just straight up mass-banning IP addresses from certain regions of the world from accessing those services. They are abusing aspects of western society (free speech and open internet communication) to actively destroy it from the inside.

There are like 20 festivals with +10k visitors this weekend.

Last year Rock am Ring was cancelled because thunderstorms. They're just in bad luck.
