WTF is the fascination? Shut up already. Stop going on tv asking us to help us find your daughter, none of us know where she is. We don't live in aruba. We don't hang around with that white dude in the GUnit shirt or those two indian looking guys.

Yeah, the best outcome in this situation would be the girl shows up in New Mexico or something, having eloped, and the mother looks like the annoying bitch she is when she's been on television essentially accusing everyone on the island of having killed her daughter.

BUT ITS DAY 52!!!!!!!!!!!!! TODAY'S UPDATE: STILL MISSING! Tune in tomorrow for more breaking news on the case

Nancy Grace's erection gets bigger every day this girl is missing.

The funny thing was when (IIRC) an Aruban prosecutor basically said, in similar terms, "If an aruban girl went missing in America none of you would give a shit" and she's right :lol

it's an ongoing investigation guys. lay off it and stop talking about it until there's either an indictment or never, whichever comes last.

BREAKING NEWS on MISSING WHITE GIRL '05: The judge presiding over the upcoming trial of Missing White Girl vs. Island Full of Faceless Brown People has prepared his over the phone a la carte order for dinner this evening: Hamburger, medium cooked, pickles; three churro appetizer; and large Coke with Lemon. More news your way as this information develops

Hey, I know its overkill. But there is a valuable lesson to be learned from a girl who goes on a spring vacation and messes around with some local boys. It's good for others to hear about what can go wrong.

ALL KIDDING ASIDE, this actually happened:

I was watching MSNBC the other day, and they ran their headline of "FLASH NEWS" (which is their equivalent to "Breaking News"). FLASH NEWS: "Residents find barrel in waters"

They had a guest on and everything (apparently, they went to breaking news even before the entire story came out). The guest was being interviewed about how the residents formed a human chain to rescue the barrel from the waters. MSNBC even obtained video of the residents working together to get it out of the water.

The question on everybody's mind: WHAT THE FUCK IS IN THE DAMN THING?!

So after having a lengthy discussion about the 'teamwork' and the turmoil of the whole missing girl situation, Dan Abrams finally gets around to asking the obvious question (why this wasn't the first question out of his mouth, I have no idea).

Dan Abrams: "So what was in the barrel?"

Cement. Cement is what caused MSNBC to go into breaking news and suspend regular programming at the time.

MSNBC changes their breaking news headline seconds later: "Barrel contents not of missing girl, but filled with cement." (or something like that)

The only reason I subjected myself to this stupidity because I was yelling at them to fucking reveal what the hell was in the damn barrel. After the guy told Abrams that it was cement, I stared at the TV with a blank expression.

I then seriously questioned the fascination of this whole story. I have yet to find an answer.

I can see the conversations that went on at the network execs offices when they first heard that an American went missing in Aruba...

exec: So who is this person anyway?
reporter: A girl from America
exec: A GIRL from America?! Is she white?
reporter: not only is she white she's blond!
exec: get me 24/7 coverage immediately!

Because - OH JESUS FUCK! The world must know when any moderately photogenic fucking cracker goes missing.

Yeah - I've got to play the Squidbert card. . .

"You can't fool me. I listen to public radio!" :lol

I'm also sick of television shows, "reality" shows, about wealthy fucking white people too. HELLO! You're fucking rich, and it seems your only quality is being rich, white, and born into the right family. You're a vapid shit and nobody cares, but your family can arrange shit for you.

I'm also sick of suburban white morons calling in pinchy Brits to wrangle their spoiled fucking brats on national television. You're a shit parent and I hope your house gets robbed.

Not long now before we have to endure the Olimario show.

I know this is somehow wrong but :lol

I'm sure they'll find her working as an intern at MSNBC. She'll walk on camera accidentally and the anchor will be like, "Oh... why, uh, where did you come from?"
Girl: "I've be hear all along..."
Anchor: "What!? Did you just say that three men of dark complexion kidnapped you, but you then pulled off a daring escape."
Girl: "You hired me..."

WWWA all the way.

If you're talking about the missing Aruba girl at 10-ish, that means you're either watching CNN after 7PM (BAD) or MSNBC after 8PM (EVEN WORSE).

The only remedy is to fire up that Tivo and watch last week's BSG episode again. You need to atone, man.

"ARUBA ARUBA ARUBA ARUBA ARUBA ARUBA

ARUBA"

I've started diving for the remote as soon as I hear the Scarborough Country music come on...

(edit: Frag, are you talking about Eastern time? Countdown comes on at 8 and is awesome)

The way people crosspost his antics from OA, you'd think he was a celebrity. That and i hear he was bored earlier today. Hope he's okay.

But there's some Aruba girl missing? News to me, and reason #235 i don't miss owning a television.

That barrel thing reminds me of when I was in Florida many years ago...

Local action news channel or whatnot goes live to some house where jars of fermaldehyde were discovered in the basement during renovations...

They are going crazy assuming its a sick serial killer, but it turns out a bioligist used to live there and these were his specimens of the usual bio things...

Like for fucks sake...

I'd say things were better in Toronto but City TV just brings us all down

It can't be worse than Scottish local news, which has totally whored itself out to the tourists. If there's anything, no matter how trivial, about tartan, whickey, golf, bagpipes/folk music, fishing, whatever tedious nonsense rural bumpkins in the highlands and islands are getting up to etc. we get lovely reports on it.

I don't give a damn if some whiskey distillery in Inverness is to start exporting to the US.

For the nation to become hooked on the story of a Damsel in Distress, certain ingredients are apparently essential -- the woman at the center of the story has to be young, white, attractive and preferably middle class or better. But another spice is often added to the stew -- not always, to be sure, but often -- to make it irresistible: the specter of a brutish, dark-skinned villain.

Tamika Huston's aunt believes the media failed to give her niece's disappearance as much attention as other cases. 'Not white enough' When Tamika Huston van ished in May 2004, her aunt, Miami public rela tions specialist Rebkah Howard, tried to get the media to pay attention.

seriously when are we going to see the nudie girl for psp shots. come on somebody!

Either this is

1. A very good smear campaign for Aruban booze cruises by the owners of Mexican booze cruise companies

or

2. This Alabama mom is so rich/influential she can get free sex/cars/drugs for her governor/CNN/MSNBC.

There are some legitimate factors that result in most of these stories getting a shitload of airtime revolving around young, white women, not the least of which is that of the typical abduction victims, 72% are white and 69% are female. And with three off the top of my head (Smart, Brucia, and Holloway), there's been some interesting wrinkles, and for every Elizabeth Smart there's a hundred Jetsetta Gages and Trudy Applebys (two young, white, girls whose disappearances didn't get attention outside a 200 mile radius). Still, the 24/7 media attention and careful management of a family tragedy into a ratings vehicle does get a bit sickening.

The question is why is this one turned into a national story, while the hundreds of other abductions or runaways aren't? What makes this one more special then the others?

I recall that at the same time Smartmania was going on, an 8 year old was abducted in Philly. She was in some basement for a few days, and somehow managed to escape through some small ass window. Think she remembered the route home, and got those abductors captured. Yet it got less then a tenth of the coverage that Smart did. Why?

Of course the girl in question was black, so that probably answers the question. :lol

Bah, I was on a holiday in Curaçao when it happened and the backlash was horrible.

That girl, you will NEVER find her. The drop-off, 30 meter out of the coast line is a few 100 meters! As you know with dumping bodies in the sea, they stay afloat for a couple of hours, go under for 24 hours and then come back up. You do not want to know what kind of fish live down there, actually, you do if you've seen some Discovery programming. The only thing that may be left is some fish feces which contain some traces of her DNA.

GET FUCKING OVER IT!!

But she was found people!!! She was living off of belly button lint and tiny animals under bed. she played with a GI Joe to pass the time and "satisfy" her

Source!

Dude, you should see the anti-Aruba propaganda that's been going on, it's sickening. Especially considering that the place that Halloway family comes from has the highest kidnapping rate of your country.

It happens once on a small island and it's been bombed as the place to go to when you want to lose your daughter. Fucking hypocrites. All this talk about how this girl who has never done anything wrong dissappeared from the face of the earth. I say she had a deal in this too. She was probably drunk out her mind and horny as a 14-year old bloke seeing a live porno session with 14 titties bouncing each way, something to provoke the guys who did this.

Note that I'm not approving of the actions of what they did, but the whole media show surrounding this should stop. But then again, this is America we're talking about...

A hook and a continuing story line. If Holloway's body had turned up the next day, I wouldn't even know her name.

That's a great "hook" for a story, but there's no continuing story to follow. From start to finish, that abduction took place within a week. The Brucia abduction probably only took a little longer, and nobody remembers her except that she was that one Florida girl whose abduction was caught on tape.

The media certainly isn't easy to defend in these cases, it does seem as if they play up the white female abductions. But considering that white women are more likely to be abducted, both as a percentage of abdcutions and in proportion to their percentage of the general population. Blame criminals for their preference to kidnap white girls, not the media. Although the media still gets the blame for making them cases they choose to follow absolute circuses.

:lol :lol :lol

They could say that she had terrorist connections and then we would look for her.

Jetsetta Gages

She actually got a lot of attention. Well, she did from FNC. At the time, this station was the only one I watched so I wouldn't know how the other outlets handled it.

Of course the girl in question was black, so that probably answers the question.

Yeah pretty much. To me though, I found the Smartmania more interesting because the FLDS is a fucked up organization (even though he was an independent member of it).

Nothing about Holloway interests me. Call me a cruel bastard, a prick, but I just don't care. She was a girl who was drunk and possibly/probably high who got herself killed. Don't get drunk in new places should be the lesson of this story. As long as its not my taxpayer dollars funding her search, go wild. If it is, then give me my few cents back allocated for it.
