There are some legitimate factors that result in most of these stories getting a shitload of airtime revolving around young, white women, not the least of which is that of the typical abduction victims, 72% are white and 69% are female. And with three off the top of my head (Smart, Brucia, and Holloway), there's been some interesting wrinkles, and for every Elizabeth Smart there's a hundred Jetsetta Gages and Trudy Applebys (two young, white, girls whose disappearances didn't get attention outside a 200 mile radius). Still, the 24/7 media attention and careful management of a family tragedy into a ratings vehicle does get a bit sickening.
