The Ghost in the Shell Netflix series is about to drop, and some new Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045 looks are being shared ahead of its April 23, 2020 worldwide launch. Japan has received a new trailer, while the official Twitter account offered pictures of the cast from Character Designer Ilya Kuvshinov.
I think it's looking great. This is the part where I say something like "haters gon' h8" for attention, but I completely understand everyone's concern, especially with the tacky "crappy CGI" look. If it's the choice between this and potato quality 2D like Arise, I'll go with this stuff. Digital 2D doesn't scale up well without a large budget to add details or more animation frames. I'm not watching anything these days.
Still looks like shit. I have zero problems with it being fully CG, but holy fuck does it look cheap as Hell and the appalling animation is well.. appalling.
I haven't seen CG look this bad since Babylon 5 and that was made on a bunch of Amigas in 1993.
Still can't get over that art style, the CGI is not all that appealing.
No knock against Ilya Kuvshinov, but he's not a good fit for GitS. Characters are either too kawaii or too handsome for my liking.
Mamoru Oshii's adaptations are still the ideal aesthetic and tone for me. Still have yet to see any adaptation match or surpass the production quality of those.
Sucks that he's essentially done with anime altogether.

I swear Production IG has no idea of how to choose the right character artist for their projects. They did the same thing with Psycho Pass and are now doing it here. Like you said, this isn't a slight on the character artists but their art style doesn't suit the projects at all.
Also the 3D CGI makes it look like a pre-2010 video game.
I keep hearing that berserk is like the best shit ever. And I want them to make exactly this so I have the motivation to jump in. I did play the Dreamcast game, and that's it.

The only problem the original movie had was its length. I was so into it, and then bam, it was over...
Other than that, it's pure perfection. I can rewatch it over and over and over again. And the soundtrack gives me shills every, fucking, time...
I'm not sure about this series however, as I said in the past. I'm gonna wait for your feedback first.
Is the art style really such a turnoff ? Is Netflix gonna inject unnecessary contemporary "wokeness" into it ? I really want those questions answered before diving into it.
They can do a pretty good job, as they did with Castlevania and to some extent Beastars, but they can also shit the bed completely. I don't want them to massacre one of my favorite anime series.
