Did you listen to that podcast? He was way out of line, oversharing anecdotes that made people inside and outside the company seem stupid. Listening to it, I remember being shocked that he cleared everything with Nintendo because of what he was saying. And it turns out he didn't, so, boom, fired.

i fundamentally disagree, it's not an adequate reaction, at all, to what he did, and certainly would not have happened if whoever was responsible wasn't so gullible and susceptible to noise from internet babies
reprimand the guy, have a stern talk but everything else is a display of poor management that doesn't take the good work an employee has done over the years into account in any way whatsoever
Greg Miller is doing this FFXV thing? I really don't like this trend of people building up audiences as some sort of trustworthy video game fan site and then taking a bunch of corporate gigs.

I would prefer if they hired my favorite gaming personality, Jeff Gerstmann to do this.

I assuming this is a joke, but since the internet is bad with sarcasm, I will say how awful this idea is.
If you make your money giving thoughts and opinions on things, you shouldn't be taking PR gigs on the side.

his statements were water under the bridge
not saying it's even in the same ballpark with today's events in terms of bs factor, though
trust me, there is a HUGE gap between how american companies handle employment vs europe, speaking as someone who has worked for companies with overseas branches.
"water under the bridge" doesn't really exist in american corporate culture, at least not in at-will employment states
fire the dude, get someone cheaper or more willing to toe the line. history don't mean shit
i think you can get away with about two shill events tops before you've burned your real-ness cred
well, i think you can shift between jobs, but you can't do both at once

Even if they're not actually reviewing games, it's still weird. Gamespot did this stuff with Chris Watters, realised it was a bad look when he would then be seen with their editors, so they took him out of editorial entirely.Greg Miller is doing this FFXV thing? I typically agree with you, but I think you can do it right and be honest about it. I think I remember Kinda Funny doing a sponsored thing for The Order last year and then shitting all over the game once it came out. I agree with it being a worrying trend in general though.
I would prefer if they hired my favorite gaming personality, Jeff Gerstmann to do this.
Really not into the whole "going on an adventure with all my bros and driving around the country side" shit.
You can either be fan/opinion people or you can be PR. I'm sorry, once you go over that line, you've compromised yourself pretty permanently. Kinda Funny isn't immune because they shit on one game after a PR gig.
I am all the way into it.

I'm not saying they're immune by any means, but as long as there is transparency and I don't get the impression that your opinion is being bought, I don't really have a problem with it personally. I probably wouldn't take this gig if I were in their position, but I don't begrudge them for doing so.
it's even more depressing, then, seeing people buy into these inhumane corporate practices
congrats on being ruthless, i guess. let's hope it's never your ass on the line

Man Square Enix are going all in with FFXV with the amount of projects they have for it.
Except, even if you acknowledge the conflict, it can subconsciously act on you. If you want to keep getting these gigs, you're probably going to temper your opinion. It may not happen all at once, but it is certainly a corrupting force.
If I'm remembering correctly, he had actually done it before and been warned about it.
I agree with that, and I definitely think they and people in similar positions need to be careful to not go too far down that hole. But ultimately I think an event here and there is pretty harmless in the grand scheme of things
Doom has taunts.
that said, you know, most employers I've had have been pretty up front with what is cool and what isn't. I'm not allowed to talk about specifics about my job or employer on social media. this was made very clear. I don't find it that hard to separate my public footprint from my private life. it seems to be getting harder and harder for other people to do that though.
I was getting actively un-sold on FFXV, but then they announced a FF anime.
I am, uh, pretty on board. Animation quality doesn't look that amazing. I wish they had gotten ufoTable.
