Truly he was one of the greatest, most offensive and funniest comedians I ever saw. I am so shocked that he is gone. I loved his podcast as well. Never failed to make me laugh. His documentary is superb. Condolences to his family and friends. A legend is gone.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Gottfried died from recurrent ventricular tachycardia due to myotonic dystrophy type II, a disorder that affects the heart, his publicist and longtime friend Glenn Schwartz said in a statement.

Gilbert had never been my go to comedian, but he was a face I had been familiar with, and in the age of technology, there is this virtual, albeit strong attachement to such people, which makes their death feel terribly personal. In a weird way, we feel as though they would live forever. RIP, and codolences to his family and close friends.

Another legend of comedy gone. So many greats have left us and very few new ones to pick up the ball. Great comedy is going away sadly, and we lost one of the funniest. RIP

Damn, so sad. I think it was pretty unknown, but he had a really good podcast that I’d listen to occasionally. Gilbert Gottfrieds Amazing Colossal Podcast. He interviewed a lot of film legends and it was generally really lighthearted and entertaining, saw a different side of the man. I recommend it. Was still being released weekly if I’m not mistaken…so the death must have been very sudden despite the long illness. RIP.

Jesus, why?

Edit- It seems like he had been battling "a long illness" for a while according to Variety. Probably cancer, fuck cancer.

Cancer sucks. RIP

For once it wasnt. He died from Complications caused by ventricular tachycardia (essentially he had unstable heart rate) steaming from
Myotonic dystrophy (genetical disease that among other things causes your muscles to never relax properly).

Surprised he even managed to hold on so long as he did. The normal Life expectancy for Myotonic dystrophy is early 50s.
