GmanLives: Remembering The "Halo Killers"

The real Halo killers

Remembering that the "Halo Killer" definition comes from one of the so called Journalists that now rember the Halo Killers

Crysis 1 was pretty good, actually, but not sure if I would count it as Halo killer. It was more a successor to Far Cry 1 in gameplay and level design. Or in other words: I never once thought, "man, this is like Halo but worse" when I played it back then. I usually thought, "man, this is like Far Cry but better!".

Halo and Crysis never really compete with each other.
Halo was the flagship game of Xbox consoles. And Crysis was the flagship FPS on PC.
Yes, there were ports of Halo on PC, but they were poorly made and barely worth comparing.
The inclusion of Crysis on a video about "Halo Killers" is a bit stupid.

Crysis doesn't make sense at all. It was a PC game and Halo was basically a PC FPS game on console.

No CoD or Battlefield?
The meme started as way to flame the rivalry in console-wars: Xbox vs PS, like Killzone which was labelled as "halo killer" and ended up failing miserably, (even tho K2 is top tier), by the time CODMW was out, every dev forgot about Halo as the main FPS force to beat

Ah, if that's the criteria then Crysis shouldn't be on the list as it went everywhere.

He forgot to include the one that actually killed it: Destiny, published in Japan (like its sequel) by Sony, who also had the marketing deal for the game and its sequel and ended buying the IP and the studio.

When Bungie left Halo and Microsoft to make Destiny Halo turned into a zombie which is hard to say if it's dead or not.

During that time, Call of Duty was a bombastic WWII FPS on PC, and Battlefield was mainly a multiplayer-only title. Halo, on the other hand, was more of a sandbox-style, cinematic console shooter with advanced AI for its time. Sony tried to replicate that formula but never quite managed to pull it off. The Wii even had its own supposed Halo killer with The Conduit 1 & 2 but yeah...

Crysis was a different thing, people overhyped the game for the tech itself, it was supposed to be conquer the whole industry with its engine, I even remember people telling on the internet Crytek knew more about the fubar tech inside the PS3 than Sony teams themselves :messenger_tongue:

I remember these days, back when there weren't any good FPS on PlayStation consoles. I still see praise for Killzone and Resistance but people must not remember how poor they were, like a child wearing their father's suit.

I'd class CoD in that same category, during PS3/360 devs westernised chasing the CoD dream and that's how we got trash like Haze.

I enjoy Gman's vids, but he can complain about the most insignificant mundane shit sometimes.

But God damn, Haze is a mess; I had so much hope for that game back in the day ,being a free radical game.
