GN - The Shady Acquisition of EA Games

These kind of corrupt acquisitions probably are almost unavoidable. What I'm most worried about that trough these connections to the White House, EA actually got closer to make gambling MTXs legal as they see fit without much pushback from legislatures.

It's hilarious to me that there are people out there who thought this might be a good thing.

It's highly unlikely this deal will lead to them making better games.

Thats a moot point IMO because EA was already on a clear trend of making worse and worse games.

This deal sucks, but I think it was a way for EA investors to cash out before they slowly collapsed. Long story short, EA was becoming a walking corpse and I think its best we all accept them as dead.

Honestly EA is an absolutely dogshit company. Can't be run much worse, and if the Saudis force the weirdos out then that's just a positive.

Steve is annoying with his 'journalism' at this point.

Maybe it's a bad deal, but I'll listen for an opinion of a more well-informed and better equiped person not so full of himself.

U a Bloomberg fed?
I just can't stand his delivery of pretty obvious facts, that's all. Plus his recent attack in LTT was pathetic. But I digress, this is a potential flame and off-topic.

Also, he is not an expert in such deals and corporate world in general, sorry. I would gladly listen to someone like LegalEagle on the topic or maybe some former/active antitrust lawyer.

It's about the soccer and other sports games, a global sports arm they want hence 55bn.
Wasn't there already news about the latest FC making less profits than usual? It's a risky long-term investment in my opinion. The economy is going down the drain so people will be less inclined to buy annual installments for 80 bucks AND also a ton of mtx's.

Japan having rules that foreigners can't buy their big companies makes more sense the longer I think about it. Selling out is only ever good for a few already rich people, short term, but hardly good for the entire country's economy long term.

The only real benefit i can see is them giving the mass effect IP to a different company. Specifically the IP not modern Bioware.

My feelings. EA can't get worse. So they either stay the same, or we see improvements. They are nothing more than a casino company dressed up as video game developers. Releasing the same slop every year with a full price time.

Doubt they paid $50b for EA FC alone
EA FC, Madden, College Football... all huge earners. They're hoping skate becomes that as well (and it seems to be doing ok). They definitely didn't pay $50B for Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

what does being a lawyer have to do with this.

private equity and vulture capitalism has been a problem for a long time, at least since the 1980's.

Collectively, yeah. That and the data collection aspect of it.
