Godzilla was released 70 years ago

It was released on November 3, 1954 in Japan. Directed by Ishirō Honda and pioneered the Tokusatsu style film making. I think its still one of the greatest monster movies. I have been watching most of the Showa era movies for the first time this year and it has been fun. I have only few left. I had seen the original, King Kong vs Godzilla and most of the Heisei era movies years ago. The original will be released in 4K in two days. I have only seen it on DVD so it will be be big upgrade.

It holds up really well, and gets across the sense of Godzilla being an unstoppable force of nature. Being in black and white adds to the tension because you can't see much of it, and lets be honest also helps to hide the dated effects.

Absolute incredible movie. Cannot be overstated how important it is.

I like to go Godzilla -> Godzilla 1984 -> Godzilla Vs Destoroyah

That's my personal little canonical series that packs the most impact and heartbreak.

Happy B-Day Goji!

I've been a lifelong Godzilla fan, the original movie (well the American version of the original) was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and I also grew up loving a lot of the other Showa films.

The recent Godzilla Renaissance has been fantastic to see. Shin Godzilla was a return to form, and the Monsterverse was bringing it to a wider audience.

I was laboring on how and when to introduce my daughter to Godzilla and then Minus One got announced and I knew it was time. It ended up being her favorite movie and we saw it in theaters three times. Really the best Godzilla since the first.

Massive Godzilla fan here. I don't have Apple TV or whatever it is so I haven't seen Minus One. Last film I saw was probably King of the Monsters 2019. I don't really care for the big budget crossover stuff with Kong. I bought a disc set off Etsy years ago of all the films up to Godzilla 2014. I enjoyed Shin Godzilla as well. I have never seen the 1998 version, nor will I ever see it. Toho does not acknowledge it, and I reserve the right to be a little pompous and snobby now and again, so I'm with Toho on that one. XD
