Goemon DS - Any impressions?

jj984jj

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
Hey, this game came out a while ago in Japan and I've been wonder if turned out any good. All I've seen are some early impressions of the game talking about annoying touch screen controls, but it nothing about the game it-self really. I dunno what to think of IGN's impressions because I've heard Anoop praise some pretty bad games before. So has anyone played through a good bit of the game and can perhaps tell me a bit more about it please?

I don't understand why the N64 Goemon games came out in the states while the others have (from my understanding) not. This actually looks pretty cool and I'd like to see some impressions as well.

yeah and that neoage crap on the GBA also made it. It sucks that we're missing another goemon game :(

No, New Age never made it over here and thank god. The advance incarnation is horrible, the PSX one on the other hand is pretty decent.

i played demo which was alright, but im sure game is actually better. i want it... comeon play-asia, make it under 20! $_$

visual and music are good
the length of the game is quite short
over use of the touch panel, influence the smoothness of the gameplay
no multiplay
not enough extra bonus

Yeah this was one I wanted to import, but judging from the impressions I decided against it. Was a shame too, cuz the n64 one (1st one) was one of my favorite n64 games.

I have it, but I've only played through the first level and some of the second. I usually start a game, translate a little bit, get a headache and turn it off. :lol

- It's very unfriendly if you don't know Japanese and you're not using a walkthrough. Lots of quests, NPCs to talk to and puzzles to solve, like Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (N64).

- Amazing graphics. It's basically Okami on the DS. Very attractive menus, lots of nice art. More effort was put into this than any other Goemon game. The backgrounds were designed by KUSANGI, who also designed the backgrounds for FF7, Xenogears, FF9, etc.

- Sweet music. Lots of remixes, but they sound better than the N64. Lots of speech.

- The gameplay is basically like Legend of the Mystical Ninja, but dungeons and bossfights I've played were on an isometric views.

- Switching between regular controls and touch controls is cumbersome. For example, you can kill the domino-guys far easier with the touch screen control than by having Goemon himself attack them. It seems kinda useless.

- Elements within the map that can be manipulated with the touchscreen will be glowing yellow.

- The second screen is mostly used for a map, but it's actually kind of useful when you're unfamiliar with an area, since the graphics are so rich.
