"GOEMON" movie trailer [from director of 'Casshern']

Geez, so much negativity.

I loved Casshern (although I guess it helps being a fan of the original anime, where as a lot people went into the movie looking for some Matrix type affair), looking forward to this.

How is he allowed to make a movie let alone allowed to marry and bang Hikaru Utada back in the day? This does baffle my mind.

So basically this guy made Casshern again and slapped Goemon on the project? Seriously, this looks almost identical to his last movie. I understand directors and cinematographers having "styles" but this is laughable.

Is this based on those Konami games?
basically what I thought

Saw this listing when I was trawling through imdb.com the other day.

Who the heck greenlit this shit? No idea why anyone cares about it for. The director destroyed any semblance of Casshern when he did the movie, and he looks set to do the same with an original product? Japanese filmmakers cannot create a decent epic action flick (that doesn't involve period samurai or yakuza) to save their lives.

Casshern was mediocre but it sure as hell wasn't a bad enough first project to turn me off of the guy forever. The guy has an amazing eye for visuals, i'll remain cautiously optimistic.

Epic movies are typically large scale period pieces so it's not surprising they'd tap into their cultural history :lol I've seen plenty of good crime, cop, samurai, and war movies... not sure what the hell you're talking about.

Exactly, if anything at least Kiriya's Casshern had enough digital eye-candy to keep me somewhat entertain (not only including the awesome soundtrack that kept it in motion). We all know you can find way worst manga/anime -to- live-action adaptions, that would probably make this upcoming Goemon flick look like an Oscar worthy accomplishment (DBZ is right around the corner ya know).

Feels pretty terrible, especially at the end when they whisper *Goemon*.
Will it be call "Kid Yang: The Ninja Lengend" when the US DVD hits?

what's with the terrible CG?

Not exactly sure how it's terrible but it's a stylistic choice, director's artistic direction is very similar to Sky Captain and the World to Tomorrow.

I think it looks awesome and I felt that Casshern was dissapointing.

The guy made one mediocre film and that's it, it's not possible for him to make a good film in his entire life? Jesus some off you guys come of as elitist pricks.

This probably has nothing to do with the video game, guys. It's likely inspired by the real-life Goemon.

(granted, the game series was also based off the real-life Goemon, but that's not the same thing)

beautiful visuals, that much is undeniable
CG and characters don't really blend together, but that's a stylistic choice and i personally really like the final effect.

Casshern was a 2.30 hrs long delirium, but you can 'screengrab' hundreds of awesome wallpapers from the bluray :)
Let's hope this one doesn't try to look as deep as Casshern wanted you to think it was, without actually..heh...being. What did i just say ?

Casshern was shit and I don't know why I should have hope for this movie. Trailer was meh and the CG is really shitty.

He's not a great conventional storyteller. But, like Star Wars, I watch his movies for the imagination and the ideas that he plays with.

Ugh. I was so psyched for Casshern but was ultimately disappointed due to the crappy CG and bland storytelling. This looks equally stylish, but will hopefully have some substance to back up the visuals.

Looks awesome.

Casshern was gorgeous. Its faults were with the fact it was a Japanese live action movie and 99.9% of them are complete shit when it comes to script and acting. Japanese live-action pacing is slow. This works for slow character dramas like Kitano stuff, but it makes all their action films boring as hell.

So when you're a director stuck making a Japanese live-action film, the best you can do is at least make it LOOK cool and Casshern looked fantastic as does this.

What this guy needs is to come to hollywood and be paired up with a good script and make the next comic book movie adaptation.

Also if I was Utada Hikaru I would bang this guy too, he makes great looking over-stylized stuff that gives him a unique flavor from all the other directors.

If the movie has A) as much action as the trailer indicates and B) bloody violence I'm for it.

That said, looks like a movie you'd want to see in HD if at all.

EDIT: Speaking of Japanese live action films, has any quality movies been released over the last while? It is funny, there always seems to be a Korean or even Chinese feature coming out or worth looking forward to, but I don't remember the last worthwhile Japanese live-action film released.

Kill that noise! Not everything needs to be Hollywoodized. I love the fact that I can get highly imaginative slower paced action films with long steady shots from Japan, kinetic fast paced madness from Hong Kong, and big budget action light superhero features from Hollywood. I don't believe that the typical superhero film has a good script or interesting acting however.

Maybe if he restrains himself this time round the film could be good. It's not that Casshern didn't show potential, it's just that he comes across as utterly incompetent behind the camera at points. He tries to accomplish so many things at once and in the end never succeeds at any of them. One minute it's an anti-war movie, then a live action anime, then a bloody music video, then a sweeping love story, then a meditation on the powers of science, etc. Plus it's overwrought and melodramatic in the worst possible way.

So yeah, we'll see I guess.

I read a report from 2007 when he first wrapped up filming on Goemon (it took 1.5 years to do post-production apparently lol), and it said that after Goemon he would be going to Hollywood to direct an alien invasion movie for Warner...

That's probably not based on the Konami series, as I'm not recognizing any character. This is most likely inspired by the actual Ishikawa Goemon.

Some people call it shit. Others call it art. I'm looking foward to this. Despite all the flaws of Casshern, I really enjoyed the film.

Though I'm disappointed this isn't about Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, that brief glimpse of all those hot ladies dancing got me excited.

still gonna see the flick when i go back to Tokyo.

After seeing the trailer though, I won't be looking forward to watching the fighting scenes.

They look fuckin terrible.

and, like Casshern, looks like an overdone mess of a cgi effectsplosion

Also, this has nothing to do with Konami's games, so I am doubly disappointed.

Seriously, all the bad effects in the world isn't going to make your film better, ffs

WTF? If it was finished in 2007, why hasn't it been released? CGI effects tend not to age well.

Considering everything but the actors is computer generated, it's not surprising that it took 1-2 years to do the post production. Doesn't it take years to render such a vast amount of CG?

Edit: If you guys want to see how much better Cashern is from every other anime adaption, check out Yatterman from Takashi Miike: http://twitchfilm.net/site/view/full-theatrical-trailer-for-miikes-yatterman-brings-the-madness/ Stick to low budget crime films bro!

So, this came out on DVD recently. Has anyone seen it? If it's decent, does anyone know where to get it for cheaper than $50 :/?
