GoTY awards should be done Q1 of the next year, the way they're done right now, it just cuts off almost all of November and December.
That's the argument they are using to defend Veilguard's snubs.

I don't like that argument! We need the awards to make deserving games sell loads during the holidays. How bout developers release their games around the marketing schedule of the industry if they want them to have more time to be considered. We can't be changing shit around over their arbitrary release schedules. Games that have a shot at goty already know this and release in proper timeframe for full consideration. Even in the industries that have them earlier in the next year, often the timeframe of the awards STILL does not span a calendar year and cuts off way before dec 31st. The only argument is for a longer gap between the cutoff date and the voting period, which I am okay with, but we are talking a couple extra weeks not months, and the show itself should not need to be moved, just shorten the voting period if necessary or put the end date closer to the show or both.

I like it. Who cares if a few games sell better during holidays? It's called GOTY, January/February would better.

It's pretty important.

How many extra copies do you think Balatro is going to sell because of all the attention it is getting?

Gotta strike while the iron is hot.

Also, if you agree with this, you may or may not agree that Veilguard got snubbed because voters didn't have enough time to complete the game in time to vote for it. I disagree.

Many people want cash for Christmas, so they can buy something nice in January. I think Veilguard was a shit game and that's why it didn't deserve a nomination.
The current system is just shit for games who are late, i'm super glad Indiana Jones comes in Decembre so i have something to play for the holidays. The alternative is no games after Octobre and that would suck.

I feel like lots of award categories are a bit redundant. In the age of multiplats, are separate PC and Console awards really necessary? Best upcoming title says nothing but wank a very hyped game. Same about Still Playing awards and best trailer. Streamer's choice and breakout are also a bit unneccessary IMO. You'd end up with awards show that's way more focused when you remove those poorly defined categories that often times don't say much anyways.

Also, LOL @ the room temperature reaction to Dragon Age in the nominee list when literally every other title had the Fanfare of a middle card wrestler approaching the crowd in a live show. Everyone for DAV was like "......cl....ap...."

How the hell does Another Crab's Treasure beat out UFO 50? ACT was not that good. UFO 50 is packed with (mostly) great games.

The PC game that won is the one I've not heard of. Played both Balatro and Animal Well on the switch and they were both decent for what they are.

Satisfactory won!!! Amazing, best game ive played in years, possibly ever. I hope this makes them release a substantial dlc asap as I need more, compared to Factorio its way too light on content

Exactly. I never care too much for these lists anyways, and I almost never agree with them. But it's pretty silly when there's so much to choose from but quarters feel like they're just neglected, lol.

Helldivers 2? The game that launched broken and unplayable with no possible progression past easy difficulty for months after release for a lot of people? Cool.

Well done Black Myth, insular games journalist continually show just how out of touch they are with the wider game market and what is liked.

China is indeed a wide game market, yes. lol. To be fair, Ben Starr said the winner only got a few hundreds more votes.

After they gave RE4 GOTY, I for sure thought they wouldn't fumble Silent Hill 2. Helldivers 2 getting GOTY over it is meh.

SH2 not at least getting best audio design and storytelling is also wild. It wasn't even nominated. Like SW Outlaws and Balatro have better audio design than SH2? Final Fantasy Rebirth has better story telling? Wtf? Robbed.

What I learned from this is that I should probably get Balatro and FFVII Rebirth. I just really fucking hope it's not a snooze fest like Remake.

Good for Black Myth. I don't totally get the chinese votes drama. We're all gamers believe or not.
I don’t think there’s drama, just jokes here and there.

Combat and characters are exactly the same, now you get to do it in a mostly open world
