Some of these are headscratchers and there are some crazy omissions.

I can't believe the first thing that comes up is videogame adaptations and nominees are Borderlands movie, Tomb Raider cartoon, Halo, Yakuza, lulz.

Edit: jesus the navigation on this site is absolute dogshit. Why is everything formatted so weirdly? Who made this layout?

Do our very best that through our vote, that games infested with force and pushing for twisted woke agenda especially gender ideology will not win. Hopefully this award show will not become a big propaganda and force agenda show. Since Stellar blade was unjustly, did not get even one nomination, I hope FF7 rebirth, Metaphor, Wukong, Astrobot and SH2 remake win big.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
the awards ceremony is 11/22, that’s before Indy even releases and only 2 days after STALKER 2

Right, kinda weird that they're having the game of the 'year' awards with a whole month and releases still left.

But then again other places like TGA do the same.

They should either do this in February next year or they should limit these to games that came out between October 1(last year) to September 30(this year).

That way by the time voting starts on November 1, every nominated game has been out for at least a month. Veilguard and CoD:BO6 both came out in the last 2 weeks, Yakuza TV series finished 3 days ago.

Also, these open public votes are completely useless now. I don't know if the Steam, PSN, XBL, etc API shows what games a user has played and for how long, but this would make more sense if you had to log in with one of those and out of 12 games on the shortlist, it only lets you vote for a game your account has actually played for more than a few hours.

I actually agree. GOTY 2024 should really be run in March '25, I feel there us a huge recent bias as well in these polls

Nice to see Satisfactory there...These type of games never receives the attention they deserve.
I didnt played it this year....as I bought it already in 2020 in early access and had hundreds of hours of fun with it since than. But I was really happy to see it performing so well this year when they released the 1.0 version. 186k ccu on Steam.

For me...

You try to RUIN everything by "appreciating the art and work that went into MAKING the games" and your non-stop soap boxing on the importance of literacy.

Did you get the play the games? Sure the art books are "OK" but the games are actually fun.

In all seriousness both games are gorgeous, have great combat systems, and are more than worth the price admission. I haven't finished Metaphor yet so I gave my vote to Unicorn

Balatro is easily the best game of those options.

I have every achievement on Steam except for two:
  • Win with every deck on Gold Stake difficulty

  • Earn a Gold Sticker on every Joker

It is rare to see a single-player card game come out that is so entertaining.

I think publishers push for this so their games can get publicity for Christmas

Yeah, there's naturally a lot of "best/worst of 2024" things happening in the last 2 months of the year and everyone wants to piggyback on the hype to bring attention to their publication/content/product at the expense of a meaningful conversation around celebrating the best of the year.

That being said, music & TV/film do theirs in the new year and that's also a shit show, so maybe this whole awards thing is a huge waste of time. 🤷‍♂️

I smell fraud with Geoff Keighley's gangster, they want Dragon Age to be the winner at all costs and it is not like that.

And it's absurd that Silent Hill 2 remake only has 2 nominations.

Remakes shouldn’t be allowed or the same rereleased games would win every other year. FF7 and Silent Hill 2 shouldn't be allowed.

Wukong is a deserving front runner. A lot of effort and passion went into that game and it delivered after the long wait.

Doubt they'll actually pick whoever most people voted for anyway so don't trust them. IGN GOTY votes gives a better showing of which game most people think deserves GOTY from around half a million voters.

Basically top 5 in order without counting DLCs were Wukong, Rebirth, Stellar Blade, Space Marine 2, and Helldiver 2

Personally GOTY is Space Marine 2 for me followed by Stellar Blade and Rebirth as the top 3.

IGN lost there credibility recently but in fairness there top 10 list is more accurate to what the fans really want.

What time is it?
I agree. As a bonus, it beats out other games despite being only $15 and looks like it runs on Windows 95.

I'll probably give my nod to Shiren but it's crazy that Balatro made it so close as it's in a genre of games that have never grabbed my attention. I'm not sure what my third place game will be but for as much as I liked other games this year, they aren't close to those two. I do need to play a lot more Infinite Wealth but I'm pretty burnt out of Yakuza releases these days.

well, well, all games from the list can be played on a PS5. :p

In all seriousness, I hope the Bot or Rebirth can win it, I won't be mad if Wukong get it tho.

I just watched the Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin anime and it's sad for me that it's not there. It definitely has its flaws, particularly in the second half, but I found it to be a decent, comfy show. Certainly better than all of those you mentioned.

I think there is one clear winner here and we all know it wont be close. This game was just head and shoulders above all the rest.

I don't get the fearmongering for Dragon Age when it's clear that Astro Bot will win in most of the GOTY events out there.
From there it's either Metaphor, Final Fantasy or Balatro.
