There are other mp3 players with a good underground community which makes cool stuff like games and bios hacks. I'm not sure of any for the ipod though.

open notepad or similar program and save empty txt file as "_show_voltage". open the tx file in dos windows and rename it to get rid of .txt association.
put this in ipod_control/device and now ur ipod battery meter will be a voltage reading from 0-500 instead of inaccurate battery meter.

Unfortunately there aren't many plugins/hacks for the iPod because Apple has been a complete butthole when it comes to sharing information about development for the device.
