Hang out with Steve.
Been on the beta on this one. Very nifty tool, especially with driving directions included. You can have it play an automatic animated turn-by-turn flythrough of your driving directions, too.

Keyhole use to charge for this version... and now it's free? Go Google!

The satellite pics are still old as crap. My house was built back in 2002 and the satellite pic I just pulled up on Google Earth doesn't have it built. :/

Holy crap... my house is not there :(
It's a bunch of trees and an old house.

Very nice stuff though. I can find the place I work and spit on it.

I love the text on the download button after it warns you about the minimum requirements to run the app: "I'm pretty sure I'm good. Download Google Earth" :lol

What he said. It's completely work safe.
Perhaps he is referring to the fact that once you download it, you can't do anything else for the next few hours, because it's so engrossing. I told my wife that I'd be in bed in 5 minutes... more than an hour ago!

BTW if you have the keyhole version(even if it's the trial) installed on your PC and you had bookmarked address... this version will import those automatically during the install.

I know what you mean though when I first downloaded the keyhole version I immediately started retracing my life marking old addresses, school's, girlfriends addresses, military time, etc.... lots of fun.

Totally disrupted my whole office. Thanks a lot guys.

This really is the greatest thing the internet has ever conceived. WOW.

I was trying for ages to find the location of the Sega building but you can't search anywhere in Japan it would seem. The address is 2-12 Haneda 1-chome Ohta-ku Tokyo 144-8531. A big kiss to the first person who can find it and come up with the appropriate KMZ (Google Earth Locaton) file!! :D

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
The best thing about this is pre-caching the location you want to see all the way down, then zooming all the way back and slowly auto-zooming in by pressing the right mouse button, quickly moving the mouse and then letting mouse off. The zoom is so seamless it's hypnotizing.

love this. My house is one of the very few bits of the UK outside of London that have some up to date, hires maps.

I can't wait until Google really pisses off Microsoft and releases the new "Google G-Gaming System" to compete with and completely obliterate the Xbox 360.

This thing is phenomenal!

First - I found my house, my brothers' house, my sister's house and may parents' house - and it is incredible, because I have lived in this area (North Pittsburgh suburbs) all my life - and never understood the geographic distance between various neighborhoods.

Then - I went to West Lafayette, Indiana - where I went to college (Purdue), and almost instantly found my old dorm and my two old apartments.

Then - I was just in Paris a few months ago - I went back on Google Earth and you can literally retrace your steps around the city.

I need to start collecting the specific addresses of places that I visit, so that I can see them and understand where they are located on Google Earth.

I really think that this is going to be revolutionary. Getting driving directions over the internet has alays been great, but, this takes it to a whole new level.

The Earth At Night (Beta Temporarily Closed)

Welcome, frustrated would-be planet surfer.

We appreciate your interest in accessing 3D geospatial information, but due to the technical limitations of this beta launch, Google Earth has been forced to take a brief breather. Please check back with us soon.

Thanks,

I can't fucking connect. I click login and it says failed to connect to activate account. Son of a bitch. I don't have any firewalls or anything that would prevent it from connecting. Did they shut down new activations? I noticed they shut down downloads, I downloaded it a few days ago but didn't install it until now.

Google Earth downloads temporarily delayed

Thanks for your interest in Google Earth, but we're sorry we can't offer you a download right now. As you know, Google Earth is in beta, and we're still building out our ability to take on new users. We're making good progress, and expect to be able to accept new downloads shortly, so we recommend you check back daily at earth.google.com. We hope to be able to welcome you and other new planet surfers soon.

We appreciate your patience,

The Google Earth Team

WAH. Anyone got a mirror?

I'm having the same freaking problem. I installed it on my work computer, and just got around to installing it on my laptop. Stupid thing won't connect and it's ticking me off :(

Sega of Europe:

The SOJ image is messed up a little because of the way two different satellite snaps are joined... and also it seems the building has been "updated" since whenever this was taken, i.e. the image must be pretty old... anyone know if/when SOJ's pad was tarted up??

To tease you guys who missed out.
Guess the location!

the first was easy to guess because of Belagio Blvd (las vegas), the second because i live in the city.

it would also help to NOT name the cities in the picture's filename ;)

Yeah it's working now. The other Google.Earth thread said people were having troubles, but it looks like it's fine. Awesome program, just wish my city wasn't a big green fuzzy blob.
