Good for them. Best streaming service I've used and well worth the $8 a month. Now that the data usage issue is mostly resolved, I'm happy.

Trialling this at the moment so that I can get into the £7.99/month payment (dat $ to £ translation), but with no iOS app there's not much chance of me continuing it. Trying to keep any services I use platform agnostic (so I can switch freely between platforms), so I'll probably bite the bullet and go with Spotify instead.

So looks like it's eventually the same price I pay per month for spotify here (£10 a month)

The question is... is it any better? I use the PC client all day when I'm working, and on my android phone if I'm out. Seems like the only difference would be the interface?

Based on limited playtime (a day of Spotify yesterday, Google so far this morning), the Spotify web player is FAR more intuitive than Google.

It's hard to compare (and obviously taste plays a huge part) but it seems as though the consensus is that Spotify has the better library. You can also upload your own music (similar to iTunes Match) which you can't do in Spotify. And if you sign up before the 14th of September it's perpetually £7.99 instead of £9.99 per month.

When (read: if ever) this gets released here, if it's cheaper than Spotify I'll probably migrate. It's radio feature was hella good, way better than Spotify's, as well as the fact that it can integrate your own local/uploaded songs into those playlists is killer.

Though, I'm keeping my hopes low for this ever reaching these shores. We just got Books a couple of weeks ago.

Hmm that sounds like a pretty killer feature for me as there are a few artists I like that aren't available on Spotify. It however would screw me a bit as I basically use my ipod touch exclusively for offline Spotify playlists.. but owning a decent Android handset now offsets that a bit.

Both services seem pretty homogeneous apart from that. I guess £24 is a reasonable chunk to save a year given that I am notoriously tight-fisted.

Does the free trial require me to register a credit card etc or is it pretty much good to go?

There is a huge amount of content missing from All Access.

The biggest album of the year isn't even there for christ's sake.

It's one of those "you need to cancel to stop it renewing" deals, so it'll require your details (which it'll have if you've used Google Wallet before anyway).

This is the thing that bothers me. There's no chance that I'll subscribe to two, so in the end library is going to be the killer feature (I want to stop buying music completely).

Also, which album?

The 20/20 experience.

Not actually my cup of tea but there's a bunch if other popular stuff like Japandroids, Deafheaven, Beach House, Boards of Canada and Bat for Lashes that have key albums missing.

The Spotify interface seems so much more focused towards people who don't know what they want (which is what I see the services as at the moment). I spent all of yesterday evening discovering new things on Spotify, I keep looking at All Access and I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing. Weird.

Spotify also does a great job of communicating the fact that it's learning from what you do. Assuming Google does the same (and why wouldn't it? After all that's exactly what Google is known for) it doesn't make it obvious at all.

You can buy it, but it's not available to stream via the "All Access". Seems that's the case with quite a lot of the content on there.

I was able to stream 20/20 for a long time now, might even have been the week of release since I pinned it.

There's two access points to music on play btw, one to purchase playstore, one through play.music.com.

Yeah I was wondering about this. I could have sworn I streamed it before I bought it. But since I have already bought the physical CD and uploaded it to my library, I can't tell now.

Now that you say that I've checked and so can I (it wasn't me that initially said it couldn't be). Different regions maybe? I'm based in the UK.

I'm assuming he's not from the UK, because in no way would a new JT album be considered the biggest release of the year. :p

So I'm on the 1 month free trial and this has changed my life. It's really only working because I managed to get the UK play store somehow.

I will definitely be subscribing to this service.

Yeah I like it so far, being able to upload albums the service is missing puts this a step ahead of Spotify and rdio. I signed up in the UK but live in Germany, we'll see how long it keeps working.

I'm in the US and I've been streaming 20/20 exp for a nwhile now. It still doesn't have as good of a library as Spotify though, especially if you're into Underground Hip-Hop

I haven't hit the limits of either library yet (other than a lack of the Beatles, but that's not exclusive to either service anyway), I'm just going on how friendly the web player is - in that respect Spotify has been much better for me.

I can't compare apps because Google doesn't have one on iOS yet, and because I'm not going to start the Spotify trial just yet as I'm going to be away for a couple of weeks soon. Hopefully by the time I get back I can give them both a proper go and decide.

Never thought I'd pay for a music service before GPM, it has helped me discover all kinds of good stuff I would have never thought about listening to before.

The offline access for Google is only for items you've uploaded. Is that right?

Nope, you can pin anything from All Access as long are you're paying the subscription. Interestingly enough they appear to give you a few days of leeway if you haven't paid the monthly subscription. I had a problem with my CC and it didn't renew, but I still had access to the music I had pinned beforehand.

Thanks. Hopefully Google get that iOS app out and I can try them both out properly.

At this rate it will take another 2 years before it even reaches Asia. it took Spotify 5 years before it even came to Singapore and the record companies here are too stingy to even let you listen to the latest albums.
