I was at my mother-in-law's house and there was a PC she was about to throw out. I work in game dev, but this is the kind of PC I'd only seen on YouTube channels.
I'm not really up to date on consumer hardware anymore (no time), but here's what I found:
• 64GB DDR5, Trident Royal — not sure about the exact model, I always buy the cheap stuff
• Liquid cooling (it made a water gurgling sound when I turned it on)
• The motherboard has two LCD screens — one square, one rectangular — with RGB animations
• Two M.2 SSDs: 1TB and what looks like a 4TB (didn't pull that one out) — Kingston, the expensive ones
• No idea on the PSU or CPU
I tried connecting it to a monitor with no luck. The case display says "BIOS" but nothing shows up. I think the CPU has no integrated graphics, so I grabbed a GT 720 1GB for $10 to test it, still waiting for it to arrive.
My mother-in-law said her son bought it, never used it, moved out, and told her to throw it away.
My current personal machine is an ROG Ally X
. For work I use a company PC (PS5 dev kit) — obviously I don't use that for anything outside work and approved software.
If the cheap GPU works, I could look into a decent GPU upgrade, though those aren't cheap either. Alternatively, I could sell this thing and put it toward a MacBook (I program using Mac , and having a laptop would be nice ).
I never game on PC, only use it for work. Still, feels like a waste to let it go.
