Got a new TV (questions regarding audio)

I got a TV at the Hock Shop. It was $129CAD. I thought I would never buy a used TV, but I'm very broke right now. It is an Apex 20" flat screen, with S-Video, Component and Composite. The picture is actually crystal clear. I'm very impressed with it.

However, the sound is a different story. I think my alarm clock/radio might have better sound. Now, I still think I got a deal, because the picture is very good, and that's what I was mainly shopping for.

I was wondering what would be the cheapest option to get speakers hooked up to my TV. There's one set of AV-out ports on the back, but it seems impossible to get regular speakers without having to buy a amplifier.

I heard it was possible to hook up PC speakers to a TV, but it seemed real complicated when I read about it.

Also, is Dolby Digital worth the price?

Well, if you want to go with PC speakers you can just get a phono to mini jack cable. Other than that, you can consider getting a used amp and speakers. I wouldn't bother with surround when the screen is so small and you're on a limited budget.

So would this be possible?

For a total of $99 + tax. I can deal with that. Would this be a good idea?

I reckon it should be possible to get a cable with a female mini jack but yeah, that ought to work.
