Got Jade Empire as a gift should I...

I own the Limited Edition version and have never played with the extra material.

The real-time combat system is abysmal, but the rest of the game isn't that bad.

Just give it a play. Pretty alright game, and although the combat system is fun in the, look ma, I'm winning, kinda way, it's still pretty enjoyable overall.

I enjoyed it. You like involved stories with a lot of reading and a large cast of NPCs and themes of buddhism and old kung fu movies, you'll like it. If that doesn't sound interesting, take it back.

It's your typical Bioware game, meaning a nice story with a really boring beginning and shitty combat. Bear with it though; the story's fun after the bullshit in the first town

I enjoyed it, yeah, combat's not hard, it's a little harder than KOTOR at first, but once you get one or more styles powered up a bit, it just becomes overkill easy.

I agree with the don't expect a classic synopsis: great game, it has its' faults, but its' fun too, if you're interested in what it offers (cheesy B-movie kinda fun, lotsa high-adventure type stuff), you'll enjoy it, but I don't fault anyone who doesn't enjoy it either.

Basically if you expect a cool story with lotsa sidequests and beautiful environments, give it a try, if you expect a challenge and a deep stat-based dungen hack, look elsewhere.

It's a good game, although once you work out dodging, you'll plow through most of the combat.

I was also a little disappointed that they first try to establish that the Way of the Closed Fist isn't supposed to be "evil," just a different concept on how other people should handle themselves, yet you end up getting Closed Fist points for picking the more, shall I say, assholish and evil choices. They spend their time explaining it to be a complex concept, then it boils down to you picking "LOLZ KEEP IT FOR YOURSELF" and "DROP TEH ROCK ON 'EM."

Also, I'm kind of bummed that there's no way to pursue a relationship with Dawn Star all the way to the end if you're a female character, even if it goes through the motions the same way as the male through most of the game.

KOTOR is one of my favorite games of all time, but I did not like Jade Empire. However, it's a free game, so you might as well play it.

It's definitely fun and a fairly lengthy challenge to boot, but it's a little too verbose for its own good.

My old man was watching me play Jade Empire and remarked it was the yappiest game ever.

Which is better: Jade Empire or KOTOR?

Kotor by a longshot in my book. The combat system is much better and there's more variation between voicework. JE is visually better but that's about it.

I loved the game, give it a shot and enjoy the GIFT that was given.

I got Rising Sun as a gift and kept it

they're games you wouldn't pay for, but for free they're worth it, but then I don't know that I'd get rid of any gift unless it was something I already had or couldn't use

I thought Jade Empire was a let down compared to either KOTOR, however, I'd much rather play it than any other game listed here.
