Grandia III new trailer

Wait, Grandia Xtreme is actually good? This is the first time I'm hearing this. I might have to pick that up in the future too.

Yes, it was quite good. However, unlike the first two (and the third), it was a dungeon crawler. It was the best usage of the Grandia battle system yet and was actually challenging. Very enjoyable game if you just want some good Grandia gameplay.

Speaking of Grandia Xtreme, which I think is pretty poor, that has to be one of the rarest games on PS2. I almost never see it anymore, and it couldn't have sold very well.

Great trailer. Not so great music. Do we know who's doing the soundtrack yet? I was kinda hoping for Iwadare's touch.

Edit - I love Grandia Xtreme. Best battle system ever in a JRPG, imho. Or one of the top, surely. However, if you walked into it expecting another Grandia, or even Grandia II, you'd be very disappointed. More of a dungeon/level grind than anything, just a rarely satisfying and clever one.

It's indeed Iwadare. Check out the official site and there are a few samples there. The 5th sample is really good.

Skies of Grandia-er-I mean grandia III looks pretty good. wasn't looking forward to it before but after seeing the video it's on my radar. The girls voice was really annoying.

That trailer was sex, and with iwadare being on board this is a definte sell for me. I'll probably buy it twice. Once for the JP release and once for the inevitable US release. Since its squenix, and their US game dubs tend to be on the better side (FF10, Star ocean (yes i liked the dub for the most part)) im looking forward to it. I'm also excited since square tends to keep the songs in their US versions (FF10, Star Ocean, FF8, FF9) If that song in the trailer is the opening theme song, or an insert image song, it would be really cool I dug it.

It is Iwadare. Listen to the sample songs on the site. That vocal song is just your typical licensed tune that shows up in most JRPGs (like the Tales of games, for instance).

You say that as if it is a BAD thing. Skies was one of my favorites, and I've been DYING for an RPG ..any RPG.. that would present a similar type of world. I'm really hoping for something similar to Skies, only with Grandia gameplay.

As for Alfina's voice, I don't see what's wrong with it. Annoying? Sounds pretty typical (and decent) to me.

I'm so ready for this game now. Started playing Tales of Symphonia again recently and I'm almost done with Radiata Stories. So, by August 4th, I'll be ready for GIII!

How long did it take you to learn Japaneese to be able to play them dark10x?
Or do you use a guide?

I second that :)

Although, since he aparently finished it, it can't be all that bad :D

The music definitely sounds like Iwadare's work. Glad to hear that he's working on this. His work on the current three Grandia games is brilliant. I am looking forward to what he's going to do in III. The samples are great, one more reason to anticipate this, as if there weren't enough already.

There isn't anything really wrong with it. The only thing that I can hear about the voice that might throw someone off is the fact that her voice is deeper than the voices used for most heroines in RPGs. Having a slightly deeper voice is quite nice actually considering most heroines are nasal to a fault.

No it's definitely not a bad thing, I love Skies of Arcadia, one of my favorite RPGs, I played both the DC one and the Legends on GC :). I'm sure this game will be much different. SoA was just the first thing I thought of when I saw the trailer

can you give us some impressions of RS?

I picked it up based on the fact that 1) it was a Tri-Ace game and 2) I saw it in store for ~$20.

I still prefer Star Ocean 3, actually, but RS is a good time. The mood is a lot lighter than SO3 (and the game can be funny as hell, especially earlier on), the battle system is less complex, and the story isn't quite as interesting (hey, I enjoyed SO3's plot...just not its presentation). Suprisingly, RS's presentation is far and away the best Tri-Ace have ever done. SO3 had so many akward moments of characters just standing there talking. RS never has that problem and all of the cutscenes are very enjoyable to watch.

The battle system is kinda disappointing. Fun, but too simple. For one thing, you are stuck with Jack. Nobody else can be controlled. You have your basic attack, guard, and timing based parry. You also have something called the volty meter, which charges up as you do normal attacks. You can unleash these attacks using square (either alone or as part of a combo). Defeating enemies gives you "chain" points which you can basically allocate towards your weapons and open up new combo possibilities.

The game also decided to use time. There is always a clock ticking (and that obviously means day/night cycles). NPCs actually go about their business here based on the clock and seem more active (rather than everyone always standing around). There are a ton of chraracters to recruit as well (kinda like Chrono Cross) and time plays a big role in that. You'll be able to get new missions from characters depending on the time of the day and such as well.

The dungeons and overworld are nowhere near as good as SO3, though. It is beautiful, no doubt, but rather different (more like the locales in something such as a Tales of game).

The visuals are quite stunning, actually. Very cool designs at 480p 16:9. Everything is 60 fps EXCEPT the battles...which only run at 30 fps (annoying). Not a big deal, though, I suppose. The sound is good. Music is by Iwadare and it has that bouncy Grandia sound to it. Though, I MUCH MUCH MUCH preferred SO3's soundtrack (one of my favorites). I love Iwadare, though, but this isn't his best work (good, but not great). The voice acting is absolutely excellent, though. In fact, Jack is voiced by the same woman responsible for Naruto's voice (which is fitting, considering how Naruto-like he is).

The official website has updated with new movies for Yuuki, Alfina, Miranda and Alonso.

You get to hear the battle music somewhat..I say that because the sound effects and voices are so loud that its hard to hear the music.

the flying stuff looks so awesome! God I can't wait for this >_<

Wow they got weather effects in there too! Good stuff.
