Greatest RPGs that were never released in Europe?

Title says it all - multiformat, this gen and earlier generations.

Some hot RPGs that were never released outside of Japan would be nice to know about as well ;)

I'll list the ones I cared about when they happened (or rather, didn't): Chrono Cross, Xenogears, FFTactics, Xenosaga Episode 1, ... not sure if BoF4 was released here or not.

The only thing that keeps me from buying Valkyrie Profile is the fucking price of the damn thing. I hear it's really good!

It is that good one of my favorite RPG's of all time. It has an incredible soundtrack, outstanding hand drawn art, awesome battle system, and 3 endings.

How much do they go for in europe?

Either way I say go for it, it has good value retention so if your ever hurting for money, you probably could sell it on ebay for close to what you bought it for ( assuming you buy it on ebay, and not some B&M store where they will totally rip you off).

Is this a torture thread? Becase there are loads of good RPG's that were never released here :lol

Terranigma

Oh wait... nevermind...

Lucky bastards.
Actually, are there any other RPGs that Europe got while America didn't? I know they almost got the Saturn version of Grandia (SOE had announced it themselves)... anything else?

I have Valkyrie Profile and I just never got into it. I've played about 2 hours and I'm not sure if those 2 hours were actual gameplay or the longest intro ever...

I too am intersted in playing/buying Valkyrie Profile.. so tell me: how's the story of this RPG? I heared it has many plot holes (the reason why people desperatly want a sequel?)

Xenogears, Xenosaga, Suikoden III, Vagrant Story, etc. wouldn't be easier to list the RPGs that were released in Europe? :lol

There's not really much of a cohesive overall story, just that you're the Valkyrie, training souls to send up to Valhalla to destroy the Vanir forces. There's a lot more to the storyline, that you need to uncover... it's almost impossible to figure it out without reading a FAQ tho :P The story is mostly a tale of the characters and how they die, usually very tragically. The story is rather somber and depressing...

But, the gameplay absolutely kicks ass (although some parts in particular can be *VERY* frustrating), the graphics/artwork are fantastic, music is... well depends on how much you like Sakuraba =P ... and the battle system is one of my favorites in all of RPGdom. Plus, the game has tons of replay - 3 different difficulty levels (Hard mode has some awesome dungeons!), 3 different endings to get, etc. It's one of my favorite games of all time, second favorite PSX RPG behind Star Ocean 2 (I'm a big tri-Ace fan), and if I had to spend $80 for it, I would.

Vagrant Story was released in Europe actually. :) Surprising, but true.

Sucks that Valkyrie is so fucking expensive.
I would kill for that game - not pay for it, but kill for it!

These days I don't really care about what RPGs don't get released for PAL. I had to deal with it during the SNES days, but Terranigma made it all worth while.

Crono Trigger is the greatest crime ever...when it comes to gaming. And I am still trying to make sense about what happened with Suiko 3.

I can't believe that nobody's mentioned the sublime Super Mario RPG yet. It was supposed to be released in europe initially IIRC. But of course it wasn't.

It's bemusing how cautious NOE were with releasing RPGs in those days. "We won't release any RPGs because nobody buys them". That's because you're not releasing any RPGs, you morons! Why would europe not be able to grasp the concept of japanese RPGs when the US was? What where they thinking?

black bars?
...

I'd like to know because I still have to play those rpgs. ;p

yeah mostly all of this games have black borders and reduced speed. sometimes you have tossed visuals too. also the translation to foreign languages isnt good at all.

especially all the squaresoft games are really better in their ntsc us versions.

Well at least for FFX and KH(iirc) we got the extra enemies and other bonus, compared to the USA version, to compensate for the crappy 50 hz conversion and the long wait... or not? =/

I'm sure there are more, but the only one I can think of off-hand is "Evolution: Eternal Dungeons" for Neo Geo Pocket Color.

And Faselei. Although it's easy enough to get unboxed copies of the U.S. version now -- apparently they manufactured it but the games ended up sitting in a warehouse until various liquidators came across them.

Finally got my hands on Valkyrie Profile (no X360 for me this year). I'm only a couple of hours in but so far I'm really liking it.
