Greenwell : CANSECO ROBBED ME *cries*

You kidding?

Mike Greenwell wore his heart on his sleeves while at Boston. He was their leader, Mr. Hustle day in and day out. My favorite player for a long while.

Now that said, I think Kirby Puckett, Wade Boggs and others also have as much a claim to the AL MVP in 1988. Not to diminish the pressure that must have been on plenty of these guys to compete with obvious 'roiders (like Sheffield's complaints about Bonds) but the past is the past and 40-40 was definitely a big deal back then. And heck, it's probably harder to do it now so we might never see it again.

I'd have to agree with those saying, "WHINER!" It's almost been two decades since that award was bestowed on Canseco, and the general public doesn't even remember the name Greenwell. If he had made some joking comments about how he should get it, or simply claimed he should have won the MVP and left it at that, it'd be one thing. However, lobbying for the award in the middle of the steroid fuss so many years later is just childishly opportunistic, IMO.

He's got a right to bitch, just as all the legit players back then do.

MLB, along with many of the other "majors" needs a complete overhaul.

A WHINER IS YOU.

How about whoever was runner up to the NL MVP in 96? Caminiti admitted to juicing. How about the runner up in the AL in 2000?

Greenwell needs a nice helping of STFU.

I know this will sound gay, but Greenwell is still one of the best-looking ballplayers out there.

Greenwell let me touch you.

As someone who has lived in Ft. Myers for far too long I can say this with certainty: Mike Greenwell is an asshole.

The complaint is ridiculous. Steroids weren't even banned from MLB in 1988.

He has a legit gripe.

Its kinda funny if you grew up as a Sox fan in the Gator days. He was a pretty good hitter but a miserable fielder.

As a left fielder, he never learned playing the ball off the green monster. He'd always crash into the wall trying to catch it but would grossly misjudge and the ball would land off
the wall about 10' over his glove.

I remember him lying on the warning track, all dazed (moreso embarrassed), while the runner was rounding second and the center fielder rishing to pick it up.

Greenie, we miss you!

He took it [the '88 AL MVP] away from me then because we weren't on an even playing field. And what he took away from me, and my family, and my legacy is gone. And I'm never going to get it back.

Oh, boo hoo. I'm sure your family is really suffering from you having made more than $20 million during your career.

Anyway, Kirby Puckett wins that award if you factor out Jose Canseco. The son of a bitch had 234 hits (42 more than Greenwell) and hit .356. More homers than Greenwell, too. I'm sure Greenwell got most of his votes from Boston sportswriters who are always so far up their own players' asses it's not funny. That whole town has an inferiority complex.

Wade Boggs had a better year than Canseco, Mike Greenwell and Puckett in 1988.

A .476 OBP out of a third baseman is infinitely more valuable than anything the others could muster.

Indeed...and how the hell do we know he wasn't on 'roids anyway? Any Tom Dick and Harry could come up with this sob story.
