I'm sure it will be completely faithful to CS Lewis!

"This is a real blockbuster movie that's being made for [IMAX and Netflix] and you know, I guess I do have to talk a little about why I'm so excited about it. This is not your mother's or your grandmother's Narnia. The music in it is unbelievably contemporary music, which IMAX fans like. I'm not gonna say specifically, but things like Pink Floyd and The Doors. You know that kind of music which people go to see in IMAX.

So this is one where, […] my team has to hold me back. Because I think, as I said before, that it's really going to change the world. And I know that sounds like a lot of hyperbole, but Greta is making this movie for IMAX, and then fully understands that when word gets out about what this movie is, it's going to create a cultural event."

I didn't even know they were doing another Narnia. Is this a reboot?

IMAX held its first Investors Day presentation in New York, where CEO Rich Gelfond shared new details about Netflix and Greta Gerwig's adaptation of The Magician's Nephew, scheduled for release next November. His most revealing comments centred on the film's musical direction.

According to Gelfond, Gerwig's Narnia will feature a contemporary, rock-influenced sound, with artists like Pink Floyd and The Doors cited as examples of the tone fans can expect. The film's score is being composed by music producer Mark Ronson, who recently worked on Barbie. Producer Amy Pascal made a similar remark in 2024, when she infamously described the project as "all about rock and roll."

Attendees at the in-person event were shown a brief clip from Greta Gerwig, and Gelfond described visiting the enormous Cardington Studios set, where the project is being shot across multiple stages and locations.

The movie itself is being filmed at the largest sound stage in Europe. I went on the set where there were hundreds of people and multiple green screens and it's filmed at multiple locations. You're gonna see a clip in a second and if you can't see how passionate Greta is about it, then you'll have to wait to see the movie to see how awesome it is."

Gelfond voiced strong confidence in the project overall, saying that Gerwig's Narnia film — and IMAX's partnership with Netflix — is "really going to change the world" and "create a cultural event."

Gelfond also reiterated that The Magician's Nephew will premiere exclusively in IMAX theatres, a decision he credited directly to Gerwig. The 28-day IMAX-only release window has drawn backlash from rival studios and exhibitors due to Netflix's reluctance to adopt traditional theatrical runs.

Netflix, Gerwig, rock music score .... this movie is going create a Barbie version of the magical world of Narnia ... :messenger_loudly_crying: :messenger_loudly_crying: :messenger_loudly_crying: ...

LMAO. What? IMAX fans love films that have music from Pink Floyd? Modern music in Narnia?!

A cultural event that will change the world? What are these people smoking.

Had been wondering recently what ever came of Netflix acquiring the rights to Narnia. I seem to remember hearing they were just going to make shows set in Narnia and not adapt the books, though that may have been for the Roald Dahl books.

As much as I like the Narnia books and would like to see all of them adapted, I can honestly say The Magician's Nephew is one that would probably be better suited for streaming than a theatrical release. There's a reason The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was usually adapted first.

When checking to see if they've even announced the cast, since the reports in the OP say they were on set and still little detail other than who's rumoured to be voicing Aslan and that it's moved to the 1950's.

Alright, let's do it. If I buy a ticket to this movie and it changes my world, it's worth the price of admission. It would be the most influential $42 I've spent since that rave in '96.

Why are they talking incessantly about the music used instead of the story and script and actors...?

Oh. Right.

I'm trying to imagine what a Woke Narnia would be like considering that C.S. Lewis quite literally wrote it as an explicit Christian allegory and I don't need the nightmares

Changing the world doesn't mean making it better.
I doubt this movie will change the world and make it better.

Also, I can't stop laughing at the quotes in OP.

Narcissist people are among the most annoying in the universe, more so when there's no talent to back up any of her preposterous claims.

Greta has yet to make anything less than excellent, so I believe it.

Barbie was among the most superficial and overhyped shit in recent years. It has the intelectual depth of those girls citing Paulo Coelho in their social profiles.

Classic rock is contemporary music now?

It's not contemporary to the time the books were set or written? Certainly not contemporary to now?

People go to imax to listen to classic rock?

???

  1. They weren't her claims
  2. All of her films have been both critical and commercial breakouts.

I'm sure that modern audience will show up IN DROVES. They haven't stayed away yet!

I'm sure they retain original end to the series in which everyone dies except the older daughter who didn't because she was evil for going on dates

unbelievably contemporary music
Huh? Okay so ignoring how weird this is to bring up hyping a Narnia… So like Sabrina Carpenter and Gunna?

which IMAX fans like. I'm not gonna say specifically, but things like Pink Floyd and The Doors
Ohhhhhh, so you mean like contemporary to the people who originally liked the books… I think…

I didn't realize that the reason I went to IMAX was to hear popular music.

These execs think they are going to replicate memes...

Without an Oppenheimer and a silly internet meme, they are moronic to think her next movie is going to be as successful as barbie.

Because lets be honest... that movie was lifted by internet memes the same way the Minecraft movie was, its not an actual good movie.

Because when I think of a pivotal fantasy work from a devout Christian CS Lewis with the Lion as an allegory for Christ the first think I think about…

It says a lot about our society when you make memes of a movie about an atomic bomb + you see Barbie as the opposite of who she really was (first toy to show girls they can be someone else than mothers and wives).

It's like a double whammy of stupid.

Without being cynical it's nice that someone believes in their creation that much. But whether everyone else sees what he sees remains to be seen, and the likely outcome is that it's not quite as groundbreaking as he might hope.

Success these days seems to be half luck unless there's some top tier level marketing and/or falsifying the groundswell to trick people onto the hype train.

According to Christian teachers, the essential vice, the utmost evil, is Pride. Unchastity, anger, greed, drunkenness, and all that, are mere flea bites in comparison; it was through Pride that the devil became the devil. Pride leads to every other vice: it is the complete anti-God state of mind.

Only way we are safe is if they manage to add Phoebe Waller bridges to the cast. The thing will collapse on itself under the weight of the combined egos involved, creating a black hole thus destroying Earth.

We'll all be dead but at least we won't be subjected to this trash.

It sounds potentially interesting, and this is from someone who enjoyed the collection. The problem is making statements like this when it's best done organically from people watching it. Now instead of hype you have these massively expectations that'll never be met with people's imagination of what they're talking about. Classic case of show, don't tell.

And sure make Aslan, the great and powerful lion female. The same lion whose voice is deep and majestic and whose mane is referenced and symbolised a lot, including the big moment in The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.
