Groups that sound like Prodigy... =)

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
Been a huge fan of Prodigy since the Fat of the Land days -- it's probably the very first CD I went out and bought on my own money. Last night I remembered that Liam actually released a followup (Always Outnumbered...) and so I picked that up without hesitation.

Uhhh...it rocks. If anybody knows how I like my electronic/synthy songs, I like them with a shit load of bass and catchy little beats. Yeah, AONO definitely fullfils that criteria. But I want more. So I need some recommendations.

Please keep it in the vain of something that has kick ass break beats & lots of hard hitting bass.

Latest from Crystal Method is their "Community Service 2" remix compilation. There's some good stuff there, like remix of Doors' "Roadhouse Blues" or Smashing Pumpkins "1979"

Also check: "Gadget Funk" by The Herbalizer.

Also, check the band Underworld. They are not as good now as when Darren Emerson was part of the band, but still pretty much everything they made is pure gold coated rhythm+electronic goodness (You probably remember their "Born Slippy" which was like an electronic music anthem back then)

Look up stuff from SSX3 and the SSX4 soundtracks, there's some pretty damn good stuff there (HAHA, it's EATRAXX so it SUXX, right? Not really...)

Crystal Method and Chemical Brothers are first and obvious choice.

Galvanize, bitches!

But you know about these already...

Try "Daft Punk is Playing at My House (Soulwax Shibuya Mix)" by LCD Soundsystem. Incredibly good remix of an already excellent song.

Awesome suggestion. I know of both groups quite well, but never delved into their selection.

I'm still in therapy over how bad their last cd was. God.
Prodigy's latest CD? Yeah, it was much weaker than their other three albums, but still, "Girls" is a really damn good song.

Would you accept a recommendation in another language?
anyway try searching this songs:

Iberia Sumergida
Avalancha
Negativo

let me know your opinion

Although not as dark as prodigy, BT is definetly worth checking out.

And +1 for chemical brothers - even they're mix album (brothers gonna work it out) kicks massive amounts of ass. If you want to avoid buying all of thier albums, check out the best of compilation.

Squarepusher maybe?

Check out the song "Come On My Selector", it's probably the best place to start.
Squarepusher is awesome, but musically, they have NOTHING in common.

Squarepusher = eclectic drum-and-bass/sheer noise made by a guy with a background in jazz

Prodigy = commercial breakbeat junk

(Also, if you're going to get anyone into Squarepusher, I think the first album to start with is either Hard Normal Daddy or Feed Me Weird Things. I like Big Loada, but if you're not ready for it, it will grate on you something wicked.)

Minus the break beats, it sounds exactly like earlier Squarepusher to me.

Definately the older Junkie XL, I prefer that stuff to Prodigy, you'll love the Saturday Teenage Kick album and you'll love Big Sounds of The Drags too (which is the second album and it evolved into something a little bit more laid back and psychedelic but still kick-ass).

Squarepusher is a bit more experimental, with obvioous Jazz influences, but really really good. His "My Red Hot Car" could fit Alpha's request from this thread pretty nicely I think, but I would also strongly recommend first three songs from his album "Ultravisitor", which are amazing, and of coourse his older songs which are too good and too numerous to mention.

Amon Tobin is another good pick, again more experimental, but "Lighthouse" from his "Chaos Theory" (that would be Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory soundtrack, of course) is a great, crazy song. His older stuff like "Four Ton Mantis" or "Bridge" is great too. He too has too many great songs to mention, actually.

I'm not going to recommend the album but the Lo-Fidelity All Stars have some great tunes under their belt particularly the single "Battleflag f/t Pigeohead" check out the edited version of that (I prefer it over the unedited).

Ok. So The Chemical Brothers rock. Back to back kick ass tracks -- that's what I call consistency.

During the process of my "search" I found some 1 hour mix MP3 (yes, it's a one hour long MP3) that spans like 12 tracks by 12 artists -- Sade, Chemical Brothers, Paul Oakenfold (love this guy), Van Helden, Laurent Garnier, and DJ Tiesto (love this guy too) . Kick ass shit. It's by some guy named "Sick Puppy". I'm loving all of this.

none! Because Prodigy set the standard for "techno" music. I have been a huge fan of prodigy as well. Their first album prodigy experience that was released back in 1992 was amazing and something completley new. Their best album came 2 years later though. Music for the Jilted Generation is one of the best albums ever. I saw them live back in 1997, and that was the most amazing concert I ever been too. The whole place was just shaking like crazy. You can imagine when people begin to shout after No Good! Keith Flint was going crazy as well ^^

as for groups sounding like prodigy, there are not many. I am into different techno genres, and I have yet to find a fair comparison. You can look for a group called hypertraxx. I like their songs.

oh and imo AONO is disappointing compared to their early work.

if you haven't experienced prodigys early work I demand you to check it out now. Break and Enter, No Good, Voodoo People, out of space, their law, fire (sunrise version) and speedway. Holy fuck they were the kings back in the 90s.

IAWTP. Experience holds up pretty well, and Jilted Generation is even better.

You'd might want to check out Skint Records comps or their artists like Midfield General and especially Bentley Rhythm Ace. That whole late 90s big beat scene had a Jilted Generation feel. Also, check out Storm the Studio from Meat Beat Manifesto, obviously an influence.

Try:

Koma and Bones (Way recommended)
Way Out West
Hybrid
DJ Icey
BT
Stanton Warriors
Paul Oakenfold (his original music, not his DJ Comps)
Sasha (again, his original music, not his DJ Comps)

And an older sound but similar to Prodigy:

Fluke

Way Out West has heavy bass and beats in many of their songs like the Prodigy. It is in a similar vein. I think many people who like Prodigy would love their sound. I mean, how can you NOT love songs like Intensify? That song is CLASSIC.

Oh I can't believe I forgot to list Plump DJs. They fucking RULE. Definitely check them out. They are a bit more beat oriented than Prodigy/Chem Bros but are similar. They kick much ass.

Also check out some other good breakbeat peeps:

Adam Freeland
Meat Katie

+1 for the Prodigy's earlier works. Experience and Jilted Generation fucking rocked and I remember we used to play it REAL LOUD during office hours back in the day :D

I really think you'd enjoy Junkie XL, AlphaSnake. I mean I'm totally out of my element with this stuff as it's been ages, but I was really into their album Saturday Teenage Kick around the time Fat of the Land was fairly new.

You forgot the GRANDADDY of Prodigy songs: " Everybody In The Place (Faiground Edit)"

Well, "Charlie" was technically the first, but EITP was much better, and it's the song that made me hooked into the techno scene and electronic music in general.

Then they released "Out of Space". What an amazing dance song that was. Ahhh, good times.

Altern 8 & Basement Jaxx, but those really represent two difference facets of the Prodigy sound.

On the subject of the Prodigy, has anyone heard the Audio Bullys' mix of Out of Space? It's possibly the most disrespectful remix of anything I've ever heard.

Also, welcome back -jinx-, I've only just noticed.
