GTA 4 to be released this year?

In a research note on the earnings of Take-Two Interactive, Anthony Gikas of Piper Jaffray & Co. predicted GTA 4 to be released this year:

Anthony Gikas said:
We are lowering our FY05 EPS estimate from $2.55 to $2.30 primarily reflecting increased SG&A expense. We view management's FY05 guidance of $2.00 - $2.20 as conservative. Take-Two's title slate looks solid and GTA: San Andreas will launch for the Xbox in June (appropriately timed for an expected Xbox price cut). In addition, we believe there is a reasonable chance that the next version of GTA could be released for the holiday's of 2005 - we do not think the Company will wait two years.

Not going to happen. San Andreas for Xbox and PC + PSP GTA will be enough GTA releases for Rockstar. They will take their time to be there at the start of next gen.

Unless they're talking about the PSP version, I don't see this happening. Dan seem to make it very clear that San Andreas was it for this gen of consoles.

People predicting 10+ million PSP sold by end of year. GTA:PSP could sell 3 million easily. They don't need to rush another GTA.

Psp version or new version?

I think Gikas referred to the console version. But I agree with GunsN'Poops that GTASA for Xbox and PC plus GTA for PSP will provide robust sales revenue for Take-Two to achieve their earnings target this year. There is no need for T2 to release GTA 4 in a rush.

The reason for the speculation is that Take 2 likes to time their GTA releases to "smooth out" their revenues. Since it has historically been their only really big franchise, they spread out the PS2, PC, Xbox release to stretch out revenues over time.

With GTA4, all versions will be out by the middle of this year, so the question is what does Take 2 have planned for the second half of the year to keep their sales up.

T2 still has a secret title being developed by Rockstar (not ''The Warriors''). And they haven't announced the ESPN 2k6 line-up.

GTA on the PSP will probably be top-down like GTA2. I don't think they're allowed to stream data are they, so if it's like GTA3's engine it'll be GTA: Times Square or something :lol

Edit: Actually that could be kind of cool, if it's like Phone Booth, making the most of a limited space.

He's flat out said in many interviews that it won't be on the PS2 platform...not that game developers haven't been wrong before <cough>RE4exclusive<cough> but I suspect the next big unveiling will be a PSP game. That will be crazy.
