Streaming music will be an issue. I bet it'll be a trilogy of some sorts of the original games. Less intensive when it's top down.

According to the release article its going to take place in Liberty City. That's all that's really known so far.

If its top down, they might as well just can it now. It's not going to do anything sales wise.

Well, Rockstar has always been pretty quiet about their biggest games. I mean, it's not as if this is the best selling series of this generation or anything. Nah, I wouldn't expect screenshots until the day before it releases.

:p

The lack of screenshots disturbs me.

It shouldn't. We usually don't get any screenshots for a GTA game until under a month until release.

I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see any screenshots till the beginning of April so that launch software has a week to sell before GTA PSP cannibilizes all PSP software sales.

Well at the very best, big GTA fans just got a GTA game that pretty much squashes and renders obselete previous games in the series with 10 tons of content. So what could this game do to impress one? Online play?

Well at that time, there will be 1,000,000 PSP's (at most) in the hands of happy consumers. What's a good first month for GTA with a userbase that size?

250,000

Which is more than what other PSP game sales will have.

i'm going to look into my psychic testicles and predict that GTA will be delayed until Xmas this year

Minigames! :lol

"Now it's portable" was the excuse for all Nintendo's GBA (S)NES rehashes.....so that should work here too I think (especially considering that the game will have new content). By your rationale, how could anyone have been impressed with Mario Kart GP, Metroid Fusion/Zero Misison, Contra: Alien Wars, F-Zero GP Castlevania, THPS, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Final Fight One, Mario Advance 1/2/3, etc, etc?

Doesn't Gamespot get its release dates from EB (just like IGN gets their dates from Gamestop), so them both having the same date doesn't really prove it is more than just a placeholder.

15th = middle of the month. Frequently a placeholder date, just like the 1st and the 30th/31st. Personally I doubt it's coming out until the second half of the year, but we'll see.

Not quite. It was 6 months for San Andreas, a little less than that for Vice City.

While I'm sure GTA PSP is a higher priority than GTA Gameboy Advance was, it should be pointed out that Rockstar jerked people around for a long time with that game.

Why would they go with a top down view? This is PSP not gameboy. I also predict a delay IF they happened to actually create something fresh and took there time developing it then the will delay cuz 1 Million PSP's at launch and the shortage that will surely follow won't look as attractive ro R* and rather whait till the PSP userbase is i little bigger. Howerver, if its more or less of the same only portable and rushed then they will for it.

What does the 15th have to do with anything?

EBgames.com and GameStop.com typically list games as either the 1st, 15th, or 30/31st of the month as a placeholder release date. These dates correspond to early, mid, and late month. What they're saying here is that GTA PSP will be released some time in mid April.

Unless the 15th is an actual release day, like it is next week.

I reckon it'll be Liberty City, but not as we know it. Reduced draw distances, cars, people and area based loading. I also think if this was left to the 2nd gen of PSP software it would be a pretty faithful port.

Well I'm not impressed by those games. (I may enjoy playing them though)

The PSP's entire purpose is to impress people, or at least it has been to this point.

Hasn't Rockstar already said that that GTA for PSP would be released this Spring. Technically thats between March 21st and June 21st, which gives it plent of margin for error. When ever it's released it'll be a big seller for Rockstar. New PSP owners will pick it up when they buy a new system.

This franchise sure needs some new ideas......San Andreas still had too much of deja-vu for me.......they need new blood in the series....

Yeah... country-side, 3 full new city, bicycle... all deja-vu. I understand how you feel.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. Does anyone think having three full cities actually added something to the game other than length?

Customizable characters and vehicles, gang system, multi combat styles, burglary, no loading in between switching locations ect. It had quite a few new things that helped the series out.

the ... are for "other things". It wasn't sarcasm. And three different cities is a big plus for me.

:lol If San Andreas wasn't enough new blood, 95% of the popular series should be dead by now because of the lazy sequels.

Why?

RR and Lumines have constant bg music as well...
I'm just saying it'll kill battery life, and Sony being the batterymongers they are would probably recommend something similar to GTA Advance.

"New ideas" really isn't the same thing as "new content" or "more content". They can put 100 cities into GTA and let you ride around in Power Wheels, but still not have any new ideas.

Streaming music can be loaded into ram like in Lumines. Should work out ok.

The last GTA game i finished was GTA3 and i really liked it...... but GTA Vice City and GTA: San Andreas, still has that feeling of been there, done that.....thats just my feeling towards these games....my brother actually finished San Andreas, but he actually said that the game still had many flaws found in the older games....

New info/rumors/expectations/whatever.....about GTA PSP:

Gameplay

Rockstar president Sam Houser was quoted saying "Sony's extremely impressive technology has allowed Rockstar Leeds to do more on a handheld machine than we could have ever imagined", virtually guaranteeing that the game will be 3D rather than top-down. For what it's worth, we're prediciting a prequel to San Andreas based on CJ's life in Liberty City, probably featuring the likes of Donald Love and other popular GTA3 characters.
Battery Life

The reason for GTA's lack of loading screens is that it constantly streams off the disc - something that could be a problem, since a constantly whirring disc would drain the PSP's battery. We're expecting to see Vice City style postcards breaking the game into chunks.
Music

One of the biggest draws to any GTA game is gunning down the enemy to a medley of tuneage - but again playing it direct from the CD could seriously sap the PSP's battery life. One suggestion is that the music could come on a memory stick as part of the package.
Controls

The PSP's a few buttons lighter than the DualShock 2, so Rockstar will have to come up with a way of corporating all GTA's controls. With the lack of a right analogue, we're expecting several fixed viewpoint options and a much more forgiving lock-on system.

Wasn't the purpose for CJ going to Liberty City to clean up his life?
