GTA V load times on the ps3

This weekend i decided to fire up my ps3 and play GTA V for a little bit and then I was reminded why I've not been playing it. The load times are terrible. Using the disk version of GTA V from turning on the ps3 till actually playing GTA V single player is over 11 minutes. Loading screens from there are a couple of minutes. Even the pause menu takes a bit to come up. is there anything I can do to speed things up? Is there a hard drive defrag on te ps3?

You could try a 7200 RPM HDD or an SSD maybe. It's a really resource intensive game, though, on a system that is very close to its end. There's not too much to do in all honesty.

If it's taking you 11 minutes to go from boot to gameplay then your ps3 is screwed up. It only takes me about four minutes. Which is still insanely long.

Also my pause menu doesn't lag.

Not sure I have anything to suggest to fix it but my PS3 version doesn't take anywhere near 11 minutes. From turning the console on to controlling a character it takes about 4 maybe 5 minutes. Never timed it but definitely not 11.

What what what? I play GTA V regularly on my PS3 (disc version) and no way it takes 11 minutes to load the story mode.

The first time install took quite awhile, but after that I'd say the game loads and is playable in around 3 minutes for me. Once in game, further load times are negligible.

Yeah the load times for GTA 5 on my PS3 are painfully long, but no where close to 11 minutes. At this point the next time I'll likely play the game is when the PS4 version comes out.

Initial load time was indeed painful the one time I've played GTA V so far, but not as painful as the constant disk spinning :/

As someone who doesn't own the game, the people saying "It only takes 4-5 minutes!" doesn't sound like a very good selling point to me...

11 minutes? You really should test your PS3 with other games to check the loading, if they do too much loading too, stay prepared to get a new PS3.

I was able to produce a bug wherein the loading never ended.

Basically I wanted to start a new game, the game auto-loaded into an older save, I picked New Game from the menu and even when I left the game for an hour, it would not save into the prologue.

So there are bugs as well, bear that in mind. Disc version.

If it's taking 11 minutes there's something wrong with your HD. It takes no more than 3-4 minutes for me.

Regardless, it might initially take long to load but having no load times while playing is worth it.

I got an old 80 GB fat PS3 and from booting up to actually playing the game it took me 3-4 minutes max.
Soemthing seems to be wrong with your PS3, good sir.

that could be the problem, the stock drives on this consoles are of poor quality. i own the digital version of it and im sure it didnt take longer than 2-3 minutes to load. though ive been using a 7.2kRPM drive since i switched my ps3 to a second gen? 40GB sku

There's no PS3 defrag feature, but just move your saves and reformat the whole drive, then put everything back. And if the drive is near full delete shit, keep a few tens of gigabytes free.

1 minute and 55 seconds on a PS3 slim (2012). Game plays way better than I expected. Coming from a PC > PS4 > PS3.

I have a hybrid SSD in my PS3, and even then the time it takes to start up is annoying. Once in-game it's generally fine, though. It's worse online, but I barely touched that mode - I tried logging in recently and couldn't find players for most of the game types, so either the server I was connected to was dead or people don't play those modes.

Emmm sorry OP but the initial loading time for GTAV on PS3 using the disc is slightly less than 2 minutes.
It seems like your Blu Ray drive is about to say good bye to this world :/

I just loaded it to see if OP is full of shit.

Turns out he is. 2-3 minutes on a regular PS3 slim HDD, disk version.

This has to be a joke thread. There's no way in hell.

I'm having a technical issue. I am aware it isn't normal and i was asking for assistance. Please, chill.

As others said, it does not take even near that long for me to load.

The worst loading for me happened while going for the 70 gold medals trophy. After you finish a mission you have to wait a minute for the game to load your savegame back up and then you can choose another mission and wait 30 more seconds for that mission to load. Why can't they just let you choose at the end whether you want to go back to your savegame or replay another mission?

do a restore/rebuild database on your ps3.

I'm positive gtav killed the stock HDD in my ps3 after I was done though, I had to replace it because everything became too slow and it never got fixed no matter what I did until I changed it. It was like 4 years old though.

OP am with you mine too takes ridiculous time to load up this game in particular easily 7-9 minutes everytime i start it up

I've always wondered how long GTA V actually takes to boot (seems like ages) but this thread has finally convinced me to check.

2 minutes 17 seconds from pressing "Play Game" on the dashboard to actually gaining control of your character, on a 2008 model OG 360 with the 120gb hard drive from an Elite in it (disc version).

Then I started testing some others for comparison. Borderlands 2 takes 1 minute 24 seconds, and Sleeping Dogs takes a lean 1 minute 17 seconds - a full minute faster than GTA V even though my copy of Sleeping Dogs isn't installed!

Okay digression over. As others have said, OP, there is something mechanically wrong there. How long does it take you to do things like switch between characters? Does the game run okay once its loaded?

The loading music is soooooooo good it completely negates any irritation I could have with the long loading.

But yeah, 11 is not normal, it averages around 2.

I swapped out the hard drive with a spare laptop hard drive I had. Its specs were less than the one that was in the playstation 3. 4200 rpm instead of 5400 and less cache as well. However good news is it did cut my GTA V load times in half. A little over 5 minutes instead of 11. I guess the original drive was going up. i have to decide if I want to replace the drive or just trade everything in for a ps4 and hope GTA V comes out for that system one day.

I play the PSN version and it takes about 5 minutes to load into the game. Is pretty crazy, game needs a PC version as soon as possible.

Although I should note I have about 3 Gbs free on my hard drive.
