"GTA4 may launch on Xbox 360 and PS3 Simultaneously"

OT but what's happened to the forums recently? Where did this sudden influx of trolls and fanboys come from?

We just had a huge validation wave, so there's a lot of members suddenly realizing they have the ability to post. As you can see, many of them won't keep that privilege for long.

Although this is old news..

.. I'm seeing a lot of expressions of shock and mocking of the very idea, but..honestly, I'm not sure what's so unlikely about this scenario? It could well happen.

Yeah it's not exactly an outrageous scenario, and I'm sure as heck Microsoft is trying everything to make it happen, if not more. A safe bet would be "It's gonna be on PlayStation", sure, but outside of that I think anything can happen. Heck, even beyond that anything can happen.

I don't really see this happening, because it sold so well on ps2 and then they picked some additional sales on pc/xbox. But like 80% of the sales where from the ps2 version, if history teaches us one thing is that you don't fix it if it aint broken (or was that the other way around?). Anyway just look to Resident Evil, it was a 5 million+ seller (world wide) in the psx days. Then boom the gamecube anouncement came, and it sold pretty good on the system, but for resident evil psx standard it did worser then horrible.

A multiplatform release for GTA is pretty significant to me. Although I personally lost interest in the series after GTA3, I see Take-Two perhaps trying to compete with Crackdown as well as fill up their coffers as fast as possible considering their recent added legal troubles in CA. However, until someone from Rockstar or Take-Two confirms the simultaneous release, this is all pure conjecture.

Plus, a huge percentage of the install base that owns an X360 right now would likely buy this game on day one.

The funny thing is that for every stupid newmember there's at least five jackasses that are "ordinary" members.

And yes, the tought of a GTA4 launch for Xbox360 at the same time as for PS3 is a joke.

I know I'm going to regret this, but... "worser then horrible"?

Wow, people still care about GTA?

if it makes ya sleep better at night. i stopped caring as soon as they took the story line away from the mob and made it about petty street crime.

i always liked the fact it was mob related before.
soon as it became just some thug holding up 7/11's it ruined it for me.

(that's got nothing to do with gameplay though, just story)

you make a distinction of interest between "mafioso" crime and "thug" crime? I'm not sure why.

I mean you say "petty street crime"... but it's clear from the plot of San Andreas that you can hardly call it that. Like, ya know, take over casinos and car businesses and grabbing territory and airstrips and breaking into army bases. But I guess 'petty' is pretty broad, yeah...

People still care? LOLOLOL of course.

The open nature of this game makes it the most promising franchise for next-gen.
Theorically, this game could get better and better pretty much endlessly until it's a matrix or something in 50 years (or maybe less...)

From the same BW article:

How are these consoles expected to sell once they're introduced?
A report released by Citigroup (C) on Jan. 16 predicts that Xbox 360 will hold its lead and edge out the PlayStation 3 in the U.S. at the peak of the next cycle, selling an estimated 8 million units in 2008 compared with 7.1 million PlayStation 3s in that year (for a grand total of 19.8 million since launch vs. 11 million, respectively). Citigroup expects Nintendo to have sold 3.9 million Revolution systems by 2008.
Ouch? I wonder what parameters they take into consideration when making such bold projections giving how much they seem to be going against the present state of affairs (or should I say, common sense).

I don't agree that the open nature of the game makes it the most promising for next gen. Personally, I think Zelda or Metroid with the Revcon or Halo3 show more potential promise for innovation or fun than GTA. I think GTA will be important next gen, but unless it can do MMO and well, it will be same old, same old. And still sell a shitload.

as long as it's developed up from the ps3, and ported to the 360, i won't care. i do not want this franchise, which i love, compromised because they had to work with the 360, too. i wonder if they'll use renderware or develop a ps3-specific proprietary engine -- i hope it's the latter. still, i seriously doubt we'll see this until the ps3 has made a comfortable dent in the market, which means we probably won't see this until 2008.

So I guess you were pissed off that all the others in this series were developed on the PS2 instead of better hardware, right?

well, it came at a point when the ps2, running laps around the competition, was an undeniably attractive home for gta3 to debut. now, when the ps3 and xbox360 will be relatively on par, sales wise (should sony's console come out in late-2007/early-2008), it would make sense for them to release it on both consoles -- which is why i am hopeful they'll port it up from the more powerful ps3.

sonys are indeed geniuses, they have convinced so many of you that their machine is infinitely more capable than the X360, and they have effectively showed you a couple of demos.

I call bullshit. This will ruin the graphical finesse the next gen GTA's have. Start with an exclusive and work your way down and port. Don't make them all multiconsole at the same damn time. Ugh.

infinitely? no.

more powerful? unquestionably. that's not up for debate.

by how much? we still don't know.

all i'm saying is, should the ps3 come out with a measurable advantage over the 360 -- which i'm fairly confident it will -- i would like them to port this game up from it to microsoft's system.

the next logical question to be asked is...will GTA4 be on one disc or two for the 360? :D

Didn't you get the memo? Only 1 DVD is required for this gen, Sony's just trying to trick you into believing more space is needed. So is Epic when they said more space would be needed.

Isn't Polyphony a 1st party? I didn't really follow the recent fad of developer threads.

I'd rather hear about Forza 2.

umm... :lol

Rockstar North are developing an exclusive GTA for PLAYSTATION 3.

Rockstar London are developing an exclusive GTA for Xbox 360

Isn't this the future for 80%-90% of the games coming out? That's what most companies were saying in thier interviews (EA, Activision, etc) ... they wanted to be on as many platforms as possible. Developing a game is too expensive to ignore millions of potential customers.

jesus, give it a rest!

the fact that you say the bolded right after saying "we still don't know" speaks volumes though, does it not?

Where did you get that info from?

well, it speaks volumes to the nebulous state of information sony has allowed to escape. i'll admit that i do not know HOW much more powerful the system will be. thinking sony is out for a quick knockout, though, i'm pretty confident that the ps3 will come out with an immediately noticeable advantage -- but, again, it's a confident guess. at this point, we're all guessing.

This would be great news.

As for the person saying GTA is a fad, I happen to disagree, obviously. Each game released yearly has been a complete step up (Liberty City Stories getting the credit for portability) in quality and have remained steadily solid games.

I call terrible games that keep getting worse or just never change anything fads. Like Tomb Raider back in the PSX days or Dynasty Warriors...

Oh ok, that explains it then. I noticed a lot of the new members had been registered for a while but only just started posting (same thing happened when I registered). If they're getting noticed after just a few posts then they're doing something wrong, IMO
