Guild wars is live! If you have a beta key you can play for the next few days until the regular joes are allowed to start playing give all beta members a small head start on the general population.

Are we going to do a GAF guild? If so, my character name is Nefi the Nifty.

can anyone answer how long it takes to cap out on levels?

wondering if 20 levels is a decent amount of pve gameplay

As along as the game is modest unlike EQ II or WOW, then I'am all for it. I don't feel like investing 500+ hrs just trying to get midway to the level cap. I don't have that type of time to invest anymore. Face it, the game its going to be supplied with free content to keep the gameplay fresh and going.

I'm picking up my copy at lunch time and going home to install and play a bit. I've been looking forward to this one for some time, and the recent beta events have just made it that much harder to wait for the full game. Can't wait to see what they've done with the full version, and the beta was suppose to have only a fraction of the content.

As for levelling, during the beta event, it was very easy to go from level 1 to level 5. It's much easier to level in Pre-Searing Ascalon. But once you jump over to Post-Searing, it gets much tougher. The ceatures are more dangerous and swarm on you more, and the world is just plain more deadly. Still I went from level 1 to 6 in a weekend of the beta. I'm sure it takes longer the higher you get up, but the game isn't meant to be a grind. Also, level 20 is your cap, but that doesn't mean everything will be easy. You can change up your skills and items along the way, but the quests/zones scale to your level and party.

FYI, there already is a GAF guild! ;)

Wow, I forgot those with beta keys could play today. Thanks for the notice!

I'll probably sign on after I finish my schoolwork; shouldn't take too long today.

Since I am already paying for WoW right now, I think I will wait it out.

Got too many games to play as is as well.

But I do have high hopes for this game.

Doc, you do know there is no monthly fee for GW right? Pay for WoW, and play GW when you don't have time to devote to WarCrack. :)

Oh yeah, I realize that. The thing is, I have this feeling that I have to get every ounce of my moneys worth out of WoW. I bought 6 months for both my wife and me, so it adds up to some significant coin. I also have Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Jade Empire, and Fable to occupy my time.

Thanks for the heads up though.

Guild Wars shouldn't be going anywhere anytime soon (I hope). So, if and when the time comes, I may pick it up.

Make sure to post some impressions guys!

I'll post impressions after lunch if there is anything major that sticks out over the last beta.

Picked up my copy over lunch, went home and uninstalled the beta, and reinstalled the new version from the CD's. Don't know if you have to do that, but I thought it would be best. The game comes on two CD's and didn't take long to install. With the art, levels, models, etc. installed on your hard drive, there should be fewer things to stream from the servers, and make for a smoother, faster game to play.

After I logged in I noticed that all my characters from the Beta were still there, but wiped back to level 1, no skills, only the starting items, and back in Pre-Searing Ascalon. I clicked on the account management section and added my new, retail access code. I also noted that it said that I was authorized for early entry, which basically means I can play today before the non-beta purchaser jump in tomorrow. It also listed the free item you get for pre-ordering. Mine was a "War Pick" which I didn't even glance at. Once the code was entered, it listed me as having the retail version, and everything was good to go.

I jumped into the game with my primary character, and started back at the beginning. I ran out to do my first quests, and entered Lake Side County. It may have been my imagination, but it really did seem like the level loaded up a lot quicker. I completed the first couple of quests and logged off. Had to get back to work. :( Guess I'll give it more of a run through tonight before my main group gets together on Friday Night.

So far, no major changes that I could see.

Guild Wars is freeeeee! In other news, my feces is FREEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

Well, this may be mostly common knowledge, but there were people in this forum in the last beta event, only a couple of weeks ago, who didn't know the game had no monthly fee.

As for your feces, you can keep that shit to yourself. ;)

We had a GAF guild comprised of myself and 3 others from one of the beta events. I forget what it's called, though.

My retail copy came in the mail today. I guess I'll uninstall the client and install the retail copy, like you did, KFJ.

Installed it and it says I can't Play until tomorrow. FUCKING LAME!!!!!

-1 already

To get into the "Early Entry", which is mainly today, you had to have bought the Pre-Sale pack, which also got you into the beta events, and a free in game item. The servers actually open to the public tomorrow. This really isn't any different from some of the other MMORPG's in which the game has shipped to retail, but the servers don't open for a day or two. You'll be able to get in after mid-night tonight.

I ordered the collector's edition from EB, and it came with a bonus CD for beta events. Can I use that to play online now? As in, can I still install the full game, then use the key for beta events, and play on the full game?

Lyte,
Yeah, when you go into account management, just enter your beta key, and retail key. The beta key will get you into the Early Entry right now.

I preordered the game months ago and got the little kit but I never opened it. I did not want to play the beta, I wanted it to be fresh.

"Early Entry" my right ass, the games release date is 4-27-05. That is today, it is not early it is on time. I bought two copies of the CE (That is $160 of my money they got) and I can't play it until tomorrow!?!?!?

This is wholesale bullshit, makes me not want to play the game at all anymore. I may return both copies.

How are you going to return an opened game?

If you got the pre order kit, why don't you open it and get the key so you can play right now?

Arenanet have said the 28th is the official release date for Guild Wars for awhile. Preorders got to start a day early as an incentive to actually preorder, so I don't see what the big deal is as this has been common knowledge since the get-go.

You would be surprised at what rules don't apply to you when you spend the kinda cash that I do.

Anyways I fount the old beta kits and used them, game is meh at best now. Going to give it another try when I am not so annoyed.

Like siege said, tomorrow is the release date, not today. And you can play it today; you just have to enter the key that came with the beta kit. What the heck are you upset about?

Morphix, what were you expecting out of the game? It's a Diablo/PSO style game; I'm enjoying it. Went with a ranger, and also made a few other types of characters so I could keep the names I picked for them.

Has anyone tried the PvP yet? I can just make another character strictly for that if I want to, right?

Played the last few beta events, and been playing on and off since the Early Access event went live last night. PLaying an Necromancer/Elementalist, and just hit level 6. I havn't left the land of Milk and Honey yet, as it seems they added a fuck ton of quests. I found two new spells for my Necro deep into the catacombs, and in general been finding alot more to keep me from leaving the so-called starting area. I tell you, for a starting area it is mind numbingly huge. (The trek from Ascalon to Wizard's Folley took a while, but it was worth it to get my Elementalist sub class.)

IF anyone is fooling around later send a tell to Red Mercury.

Sorry for such a stupid question, but you can use a subclass? I might have to switch to a warrior or elementlaist and go with a ranger/warrior subclass then. :)

Some Fry's locations have Guild Wars for 39.99 USD Wednesday-Thursday.

For Canadians, Futureshop has it for 39.99 CAD (approx 32 USD).

I am considering picking it up tomorrow if I have time..

Yeah! Its cool.. Go back into Ascalon and talk to the guy to the right of Sir Tydus. He'll tell you about getting a subclass, and then give you information on where to go to get the subclass for each profession. It works out nicely, as you get some cool new abilities, but since you can only carry 8 spells at a time, you have to really plan out how you are going to get along.

Supposedly there are some skills that can only be unlocked if you do not have a subclass, and certain elements from the subclass wont be as powerful if it was your main class.. but so far its definately worth it.

Call out a fire strike from above, and when the first guy drops summon a bone horror out of him to turn and start wailing on his still alive buddies. As each drops, I just summon another bone horror. Its awesome. I've had a group of like 4-5 Bone Horrors just roaming the countryside with me. Good times.

Yeah, you can subclass if you want, but going one pure profession is viable as well. I thought about going Ranger/Warrior as well, but I think I'm gonna stay pure Ranger on my first char.

I'm level 6 so far and loving it. They added a ton of new quests to the starting area (which is huge in itself.) Just running around trying to find collectors to earn new items is fun.

Anyone with an extra beta key? I installed the game and have to wait now. :(

Check your PM

The game is 40 bucks at frys electronics. They also have a crapload of preorder boxes for 99 cents if you bought the game somewhere else and really want to play today. Or if you want the preorder bonus item.

Just tried out the necromancer skills and I really like them, so I think I'm going to be a necromancer now instead of a ranger, and use something other than ranger as a secondary skill.

Decisions, decisions... :)

Dammit, went by Best Buy tonight with my pre-order receipt and the mofos wouldn't sell it to me because "we're not going to break street date." Give me a damn break.

Anyone playing this who didn't like or hasn't played MMORPGs before? I saw it today, the idea of no ongoing payments was appealing, but the only thing I've ever played like it was Asheron's Call beta, which I thought blew.

I'm also intrigued by the idea of the online economy and if I were able to make some money when I think I'm done with the game by selling off all my online-worldly possessions, that would be cool too.

Um there's a forum setup and guild setup if people read the Online forum... Anyways, lv 10 Necro Shen Xiii is my in game character. We can merge the guild or whatever...

Yeah, FuturShop will even trow in an official GuildWars Tee-shirt if you buy the game on Tursday 28th (tomorrow). Awesome deal for the low low price of 39.99CA. This will be mine. I will prolly never wear the tee-shirt but oh well, free stuff is always good. :lol
