i just realized how sick the 3D/2D thing is. that's kinda nuts.

i cant wait to see what stuff like this will look like

Ky's ponytail is hilarious though.

lol, there you again. You can say that the consoles aren't able to take full advantage of it, but the graphics engine itself is still sound.

On PC its tolerable and runs well but alot of UE3 games are only available on consoles. It damn near ruined Asura's Wrath for me, game feels like it's constantly on the verge of blowing up.

This is clearly the latest rev of UE3 running on high end PC or next gen systems, if they do decide to make a current gen version of this game it's gonna be messy.

It's a niche series to begin with. They would be absolutely mad to skip current gen.

Not only that, but as I said last page, it's pretty much in line with what Ishiwatari was last quoted on:

Ishiwatari said:
"I have the full intention to create Guilty Gear for PS3 and 360."

The only one who talked offhandedly about a new franchise for the PS4 was Mori (BlazBlue director). But neither Ishiwatari or Mori sounded as if they're ready to jump ship yet.

I'm guessing it's Unreal Engine 3 and current-gen going by backgrounds alone, but I don't know.

Yeah the backgrounds don't really look as good. Why is it SNK is the only one left that makes decent backgrounds in this day and age. I really hate the nothing going on in the background in Arc fighters.

like? if they can pull off the visuals on 60fps on current gen it doesn't really make anything different

Well, that's the thing, if current gen can somehow guarantee 60 fps bring it. Otherwise, I would rather buy a new system that will allow it.

I just realized that we're still getting a new BlazBlue in addition to this. It's like Christmas!

Aside from new GG hype, Arc needs to lend their expertise to JRPG developers too now. Also I really hope Konami gives them a chance to make the next Contra after what they did with Uprising.

Also I dont think people would have been able to handle SFIV looking like this back in the day. Would have been kinda mindblowing.

Wow, I'm glad this thread is so popular :)

I've watched the trailer probably 20 times by now. They really did a great job, can't wait for more. But I doubt we will get much information before TGS.

I uh...think it looks pretty bad.

Honestly, I first thought it looked like a flash game because Ky's idle animation totally looks like it came out from one. Also, the character models themselves look a bit too clean, so adding some stylized shading might improve the look a bit(I expect something like SF4 minus it's fugly character models).

Besides, it's still work in progress and things can only improve from here right?

Already pretty excited that the series can move forward again. No more XX revisions. @_@

This looks fucking unbelievable. I completely crashed after the CP finals were through at Arc Rev, and then I wake up to this. Just... holy fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

SF4 was the first real 2D fighter in a long, long time,
No.
and it revived the genre,
And again, no. SFIV was just a return to 2D fighters for Capcom, and a revival of their fighters. The genre didn't go anywhere just because they got bored with it. And it still doesn't excuse how terrible the art style in SFIV is (doesn't do the Tekken side of the cast any favors in SFxT, either).

In a case like this, it probably was to insure the framerate doesn't suffer. MK and Injustice (also fighting games made with Unreal) are somewhat guilty of this, as well.

Wow CP dead before it even came out. Guess I wont be playing anything for a year now.

I will never understand this logic. Same attitude as when CP was announced around the P4A came out in the states. It's not like the release dates are close to each other. I imagine CP and GGXrd will at least be one year apart from each other.

Oh god yes!

Uprising was right up my alley, absolutely loved that game and I want more!

The character models in this game look like they're straight out of Uprising's intro.

Criminally underrated game.

Why do we need sprites alive anyway?

We don't, I guess. Spritework could easily have been ditched when stuff like War Gods or Killer Instinct came out, if those games had been popular enough for Japanese companies to adopt using pre-rendered models en masse. Some people just really like sprites, and would like it if the style could continued to be used in the future.

I dig the look of the new Guilty Gear, but as soon as I saw the slower movements (stuff like Sol cracking his neck or Ky sheathing his sword) I had a hunch that the characters were 3D models - there's some weird kind of lag for stuff like that which sometimes pops up in Japanese CG. It's not a deal breaker or anything like that, but it's not as fluid as I'd hope (although as I've mentioned before, it's a work in progress - I know very well that it's just an early build, I'm impressed with what's been done so far and I think that the game will be much more improved as they work on it.)

To be honest, with all these posts commenting that they couldn't tell whether or not it was 2.5D, I feel like I'm a nitpicky old man yelling at clouds.

I personally think SF IV gave a huge boost to the genre, as I feel a lot more people played fighters after that game.

1.5 years :3

Two years!

Yeah...but look how long it took to make XII/XIII. Upwards of 5 years, and a whole lot of time and money sunk into it. We'll be lucky if SNKP can even afford to keep making fighting games.

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if the fact that SNKP is getting chummy with the guys behind "XuanDou" is a sign that they too are getting ready to embrace a similar direction. Drawing sprites is just not really an efficient use of time and money anymore, when you can easily take renders of 3D models to accomplish a similar effect and skip the extra step of drawing sprites on top of 3D renders.
Seems like nobody cares about this, but once again: SNKP is hiring people for a 3D KOF and Samurai Spirits.

From the trailer footage I'd guess it was next-gen or PC.

Arc's PS360 stuff looks like this:
https://images.eurogamer.net/articles//a/5/4/2/3/3/1/Battle_Fantasia_360_007.jpg.jpg

PC or...

PC-based arcade hardware!

1080p footage does basically guarantee that this isn't running on PS3 or 360, but I don't think Battle Fantasia is the best indicator of what they can do these days with those consoles. That was a while ago, BB has nicer backgrounds, and they're using a totally different engine now.

I wonder if they're gonna make clashes more cinematic like the opening (maybe not to that effect).

I think there was a clash deep into the trailer - I imagine all of them would be like that.

Edit: Yep, at around 1:45 there's a bunch of them. There's a lot more detail to them - instead of just canceling the animation of the move, the characters stagger and knock each other back a bit. I guess that might prevent clash battles from happening as often.

"Let's be fair. That was a long ass time ago. Pre-SF4."

Yep. The arcade hardware Battle Fantasia was released on was pretty weak, even compared to current gen consoles. Also, I don't think this game is really doing anything technically that current gen systems will struggle with.

Blazblue CP hits consoles after next gen arrives, I really doubt this is not a 2014 game, and than you add the 8-12 month wait after arcade release... This could be a year 2 ps4 game, I expect it to be next gen.

So if this and BB are released during this year does that mean that the new fighter for the PS4 won't come for another 2 years?
