GAAAAAAAAY
I need something around $300 that can handle many different types of styles. Blues, grunge, classic rock, metal, etc. Is Marshall typically the way to go? Or can I get a much better value with another brand?

I have a line 6 and it's awesome. I don't have it at school but I believe it comes with about 12 different amp models. Metal, blues, jazz, and other stuff...it's great quality.

Peavey? Bleh! They're overpriced as hell. At that price, you may want to look at modelling amps for versatility.
Truth be told I last purchased a peavy in like 1995 so I guess a lot has changed. back then the cheaper amps were peavey and crate....and I sure as hell wasn't buying a crate.

my valvestate marshall can handle whatever i throw at it in terms of style and does a nice job. my line 6 pod got me through the dorm days in college though. i have a peavey 5150 half stack too for gigs. they're all great for what i use them for, just depends on what you need.

If you like the Marshall sound, then the Marshall Valvestates are a pretty good buy. Or hell, even the fully digital MG series. The Valvestate is what I went for, and I've been happy with it so far.
