Guys, which comics do you read? Manga aside!

The IDW TMNT series that started in 2011. Although it technically ended last year, they've relaunched it this year with a new story arc. Probably the best iteration of the Turtles ever.

Any Donald Duck/Scrooge McDuck comic by Keno don Rosa is absolutely amazing and worth reading. Even if you haven't ever read any Donald Duck. The one with the Templars is really good.

Tintin is also excellent. Funny and adventurous stories with colorful characters.

Try some of this authors:
-Moebius
-Bilal
-François Bourgeon
-Loisel

These are not Asterix type of comics but they are some of the best.
For Asterix type, try Spirou, Gaston, Lucky Luke, Tintin.

When it comes to comics I usually read Marvel, DC and non superhero comic brands like Image Comics/Vertigo

Right now, I've been going hard into Marvel this year. I read

The War of the Realms (Jason Aaron)
Donny Cates Venom Run/Absolute Carnage/Silver Surfer Black/The King In Black
Strange Academy (Skottie Young)
The Death of Doctor Strange (Jed McKAY)
The Immortal Hulk (Al Ewing)

I loved all these titles

I'm currently on Hickman's X-Men Krakoa Era and so far I love it. I just got to the Reign of X Section. I loved the previous sections with the standouts being House of X/Power of X and X of Swords. I thought Dawn of X was great too but I had a couple of issues with that section in comparision to the other sections

If I'm able to finish Krakoa Era this month or next month, I'm going to start reading Marvel Cosmic Annilihilation Era

GRhu77zwcb8JmUv0.jpg

I got these all on Kindle and should be in chronological order

As for DC, I'm looking to get into Grant Morrison Runs on Batman, Superman and Green Lantern in 2026. I also gonna to be reading all of the Batman White Knight MIniseries releases

Same with non superhero comics, I want to at least finish Hellboy, Fables and The Walking Dead next year

I got all four omnibuses for Alien The Original Years on Kindle and plan on start on reading those too.

The Night Eater Volume 3 and Knights of the Old Republic Omnibus are comics I want to read next year too

For Marvel 2026, I want to go back and read

Astonishing X-Men Run
All of the X-23 Run which includes multiple series
Jason Aarons Wolverine and The X-Men
Rick Reminder Uncanny X-Force Run
Wolverine Origins II
The Magnificent Ms Marvel/Outlawed
Dan Slott Fantastic Four Run

When it comes to a maybe for next year, I would say House of M and X-Men Messiah Trilogy

That can change though

Comic?
I usually only read old comic before 90s if it's superhero comic.
well, nowadays, I lost interest in newer comic and last time I read comic is asterix.
If anyone has recommendation, I would like something like cosmic hero theme or space western.
also have a soft spot for something like Guardian of the Galaxy or He-Man

I was thinking of maybe getting into Peanuts, or Asterix.

And throw in Calvin and Hobbes if you can.

Me, I've always been a Disney comics fan. My country has been producing the largest amount of Disney comics since Disney themselves forgot about them in the 60s, so I've been spoiled by literal thousands of stories. I'm not sure in what form they're available in the rest of the world, though. But I'm sure you can easily find some Carl Barks and Don Rosa Disney comics, as they are worldwide classics.

I cannot recommend Absolute Batman enough.

It changes up just the right amount of usual Batman canon in an interesting way, while being extremely gritty. The action is over the top, and it keeps you in suspense often.

Do not let the giant Batman with axe shit dissuade you, this is peak Bats.

For superhero comics the best I've read is "Dark Knights of steel" it's DC heroes in fantasy settings. It's a fresh take on DC characters and story, in 12 issues. The art is amazing, story is pretty good and great pacing.

Also enjoyed "Once & Future". Based on Arthurian legends, with great art (Dan Mora is a real beast) and great character (the grandma is hilarious). It's 30 issues. To be honest I love it at the beginning and it dragged a bit too much for me.
Still a good read.

Wish they Conan comics were available on the marvel app!

Absolute batman and superman are great. Ive really enjoyed the maker as a villain in marvel. The whole Ultimate line is good; it's just another version of earth that the maker has controlled making super heroes disappear. Ultimate Spiderman is really good.

Johnathan Hickmans whole secret war and Thanos comics were the basis for some of the movies. Evil illuminati 👍🏼

house of X by him too
Superior Spiderman is when doc ock takes over peters body.
Immortal hulk. Undead hulk horror

Bone is a good standalone comic.

Have the DC Absolute Line completed their runs yet? I'm looking into reading those too

Also I'll be reading Ulimate Spider-Man and other Ultimate series starting next year. And I'm talking about the 2000s Ultimate. I will eventually get the new Ulimate series Marvel is currently doing. But the one I'm excited to get to eventually is Hickman's Imperial and five series that spun off out of that issues

Before reading Krakoa Era, the only Hickman I read is Secret Wars and a couple of the tie in issues. I plan on rereading Secret Wars 2015 but this time read everything leading up to it including Infinity. Also with the Secret Wars reread, I'll be reading all the spinoff issues too. I'm going to be using a reading guide when I do my reread

I grew up reading Bone, that one is a classic

I was able to meet Jeff Smith at a lecture he was doing for free in my city. I got all my Bone issues signed by him. He was really friendly in person

I have two more omnibuses to get through for that one. So far I've been really enjoying the story. The art especially is really unique and good

I was just looking this up and reading the first issue and was surprised by how pornographic some of the imagery was lol

The Fables series by Bill Willingham is very nice! not to mention the series has 150+ issues!

I still have a couple of volumes left to read. This series is fantastic

the requirement is not much?
If only one series i think I can manage it

I would say use a reading guide if you want

Tintin is also excellent. Funny and adventurous stories with colorful characters.

I always prefered Asterik to Tintin but Tintin is still good

Monstress is a really good comic series that I reccomand. Art is beautiful and detailed. Plot and lore are great and dense. Characters are fantastic. I'm gonna to have to do a reread of this series though

I didn't start reading comics/graphic novels until my 30s. After binging the essential Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns, Walking Dead, Dark Phoenix etc I wanted something more 'arthouse', like Criterion Collection of films but in graphic novels. That's when I discovered European Comics, (Heavy Metal), French Bande Dessinée.

Some of my favorites:

The Mercenary (Segrelles): Every panel is a beautiful oil painting, attention to detail is exquisite. Fellini himself was a fan of this book and praised the art style.
61f7R1Ue2zL._SL1000_.jpg

Daytripper (Moon & Ba): Currently reading this is INCREDIBLY poetic, slice of life, watercolors are outstanding.
71hvKL2ZqeL._SL1500_.jpg

The 6 Voyages of Lone Sloane (Druillet): This is well known to readers of Heavy Metal magazine. It's like someone took trippy psychedelic 'tattoo art' and made a sci-fi acid trip out of the ink.
91OxYDWLChL._SL1500_.jpg

Thorgal (Rosinki/Van Hamme): Forget "Thor" this is the REAL Thorgal, you like fantasy mixed with Zelda style characters you'll dig this.
A1h3aQ0YsRL._SL1500_.jpg

Samaris (Schuiten/Peeters): Another Heavy Metal classic. Architecture design of the buildings is phenomenal. And the story is so surreal and dreamlike you have to experience it.
81vVZ+VY1QL._SL1200_.jpg

XIII (Vance/Van Hamme): Literally Jason Bourne but with amazing art and cinematic panels, great thriller conspiracy style.
81rb5rr7oSL._SL1500_.jpg

The Incal (Jodorowsky/Moebius): You ever seen Jodorowsky's Dune? THIS is what the graphic novel ended up as. Essential sci-fi mixed with philosophical themes. Plus there's a movie adaptation coming soon.

I think absolute batman is on issue 12 or so. I have the DC App and issues come out way faster than marvel. I think it's going for at least 30 issues

now i have question, does anyone remember the name of the comic?
The Hero is like flash gordon, He saved the galaxy/universe once, but he had family, he left the space kingdom, and return to earth.
Nobody believe Him, and bullied Him. the stories started as His problematic life because nobody believes Him, and He is now retired grumpy oldman.
Then One day, He visited by Young boy, from the said space kingdom, who remember Him as the great hero.
But He is old and no longer at the best shape to save anything. He and the young boy started new adventure, although He is initially refuse.
and He slowly return as space hero and trying to save the galaxy/universe once more.

I forgot the name, if there is anyone who remember the comic's name?

Oh, it's its just straight up porn as it goes along, particularly the "beautified" versions they started doing after a while. I think the line is dead from covid. Sad, because the story, such as it is, was kinda interesting and the art work was quite good.

I always prefered Asterik to Tintin but Tintin is still good
I read a lot of TinTin back in the day, I really need to score one of those collected sets, then track down the congo book that seems to be semi-banned. Movie was really good as well.

Asterik always seemed to be a cheap Hagar the Horrible knock off but that is probably doing a MAJOR disservice to Asterik.

Another good newspaper comic to revisit is Bloom County, I'm sure there was a ton of topical stuff for the adults that I missed when reading it as a kid/teen. In my head I mix Bloom County and Liberty Meadows together, not sure why....must be the talking animals

Druuna3_K_bx.jpg
One of the best comic I read was sexually explicit but I still recommand it if you like sci-fi. Druuna, particularly Mandragora one.
A lot of the longer running Heavy Metal comics were really good from a narrative context. You know it's hitting right when the sex/nudity starts intruding on awesome drama and combat :P

There are a lot of really funny or just well written smut comics. I think the R/XXX content helps get the artist some early audience that they can then grow into a legit fan base. Oglaf, for example, or Zarathul/Andrew Hunters DELVE, has some legit good writing to go with the tawdry visuals.

Another (PG rated) great web-comic that started rather crude/humble but really blew up was Schlock Mercenary. It went from a sunday comic vibe to a legit engrossing story. Probably still available for free.

I want to recommend The Arrival by Shaun Tan. It depicts a dad and daughter who arrive in a USA-esque country and we get to follow them as they learn about the city and culture. It has no text, but is very immersive and fantastical in a grounded way.

iOwIvKYlApkQuJas.jpg

Simon Stålenhag has illustrative scifi books which don't always have a narrative, but they are rich with atmosphere and a joy to look at. His earlier work is a wonderful look into a Swedish futuristic 1980s, but he also has one book which takes place in the US which has more of a red thread.

Yeah, Tales from the Loop inspired stuff is interesting, if a bit hard to reconcile narratively. The juxtaposition of futuristic, or at least technologically advanced, stuff versus the mundane is cool though.

X-Men
Batman

These are my top ones.

I do own other comics like Spider-Man, GI Joe….i forget the other ones I have cuz they were random ones that came in sets that I bought cuz they included X-Men comics.

You probably know this, but Samaris is just the first book in the long running "Les Cités obscures" series. There is 12 albums + some sidestuff:
But yeah very good series! I own a complete set :)

Man I'm jealous I only have Fever in Urbicand and The Tower. Too bad there isn't a huge user demand for these masterpieces.

I highly recommend Murder Falcon by Daniel Warren Johnson. It is a love letter to heavy metal, a great story, and awesome art.

Daniel Warren Johnson run on the skybound transformers was also good. All his stuff is really.

Even before I read what you said, the art caught my eye right away. I draw (cartoon style) as a hobby and I'm always interested in different cartoon styles, I like what I'm seeing on the cover. Then I read heavy metal and it made everything even better. I'll def check this out.

His art is very kinetic. I think he is the best at showing fast movements, which works for over the top storytelling.

The one I read was in 2013-14, when we were operating out of FOB Deleram or Geranimo, I can't remember.

My friend's wife would send him graphic comic novels and she sent Kingdom Come and man that damn thing had me so hooked I forgot to write up patrol orders that night for my fire team.

The artwork, the story, everything was just mesmerizing to me. It had me engrossed every time we returned through the gate from missions that as soon as our brief was done and my After Action Report was written and sent up the chain, it was hard to find me hiding out in fighting hole disappearing to get a few pages in.

These days with my grandchildren it's the BernSTEIN Bears (we know that shit is Mandela effect). I may pursue a little Calvin and Hobbs for some laughs sometimes also.
