I'm only 21, but like my father I'm going grey. He was completely grey by the time he was 30. I've noticed my first grey hair when I was only 16. But now it's getting noticeable, and I'm looking to dye my hair. So something to look natural.

I have no idea where to buy, what brands there are, and how to do it. google isn't helping much. Too much crap to filter through.

Anyone have advice? I suck at the internet.

Unless your mum or sister (or Dad for that matter) is going to help you, I suggest you go to a hairdresser. This way they will be able to do a proper colour match to your hair, and they will apply it evenly. If you do it yourself it's really hard to get to the back and you have to be very careful not to miss patches, you will look rather silly if you do. Plus it can get really messy too, it can dye the skin on your ears and face if it drips etc etc.

The other benefit of the hairdresser is the massage you get when they shampoo out all the colour and they condition your hair... that is worth going to the hairdresser alone I say, expecially if she is hot!

But if you are determined to do it yourself, then just go to the shops and have a look rather than doing so on the net. You need to decide on perminent or semi colour (I suggest semi to begin with, this way it will eventually wash out and is less damaging to your hair). But the colour is going to be the most important thing to you. We could recommend brands until the cows come home, but if they don't have your colour you're stuffed. This is the main reason to go professional I say.

...by the way, I LOVE that "salt n pepper" look dark guys get when they start to go grey (like Clooney)... it is sexy as hell. If you are heading down that path, keep it for a while. Or at least keep the sides a little peppered and get your hairdresser to do the rest... yummy!

When I get to that point, it will only last a few years. My dad was completely grey at 30. He's just over 50 now and he's completely white.

My hair is brown though. My father's was nearly black.

I think if I do it I'll get semi-permanent

Don't worry, you'll just turn out like Steve Martin: hilarious at first, then gradually sliding into irrelevance as you do more and more shitty movies. Eventually you will partner up with Queen Latifah and wonder what's happened to your life.
