Half-Life 3 is in the Final Phase of Development – Rumour

At this point we basically need 3x remakes and remasters of HL and HL2 + EP1 & EP2 before we should expect anything new in this series landing.

Oh and a non-waggle, non-VR version of Alyx please.

It's way past its sell by date. The kids don't know what half life is.
Well... Just not the intended way.

This would be difficult. On PC you have fan remakes / upgrades of the first two games which are better than the originals, but they couldn't use that if they wanted to release a Half-Life collection on consoles.

The upcoming Deus Ex release is a similar case - instead of just using Revision they're doing their own remaster.

And thats the reason, why HL Alyx was so sucessfull, right?

Half Life Fans are in their 40th, we are not

That game only sold like 2 million 😵‍💫. Amd I'm not sure those don't include that the game was given away for free. I have it in my library and I've never bought it or played it.

Beat saber did over 10 million on quest alone. 🤷‍♂️

HL:A isn't available on the Quest store, and I would expect a rhythm game to have a potentially much bigger audience than an FPS sequel.

Oh come on, that's just disingenuous. VR's motion controls are way beyond the Wii's primitive waggle, much closer to 1 to 1 hand interaction.

Half Life also sold a lot of $ 1k vr headsets and gave vr market overall a boost. They can easily afford to make vanity projects and take as long as they want. In the end they still get cut of all vr content sold on steam. You need to think bigger bud

HL Alyx was given away for free?

Alyx has never been given away, even on sales its around 20 bucks still. Maybe you had some vr humble bundle or some shit.

It was an off-hand take.

My point was really that lots of fans of the franchise (myself included) were excluded from playing Alyx because it requires the purchase of $1,000 worth of VR gear.

A non-VR version would be great so we can enjoy it too, being the first bit of real HL content since the episodes.

Also getting official remakes of the original games + episodes with modern graphics & production values (as opposed to shitty, screen-space RTGI shader + excessive "realism" bloom filter laden versions you might get in the modding space on PC) would be a great way for Valve to bring about 3 generations of gamers up-to-speed on the franchise, whilst making like a billion dollars of sales revenue in the process given the hype over this franchise over the years (+ the utter scale of Steams' penetration vis-a-vis when HL2 first launched with it).

It doesn't you could get a quest for 300$ and it's everything you need if you wanted to cheap out

And alyx is biggest gaming moment I've ever had from a tech point, it's like all the technology that has been building up for gaming all came together at that one point in that 1 game

It worked basically on every pc vr headset at time. I bought rift s back then for it. Main thing you got with index was higher res, fov and finger tracking
Also there is non-vr mod

I got all the half life games some how for free. I've never played them.
You never played any of them? Two has pacing issues but also some of the best funness of any game I've played. I'm making up words as I don't know how to explain what it is but even with flaws it's still great (to me)

People that are passing over HL Alyx as some random couple hours VR experience have no idea what they are missing out on. It took me like 11hrs, full fledged connected story, has the same charisma and flow as any other HL game and it connects to HL EP2. HL:Alyx is a proper HL title through and through, not a tech demo.

I've never played them on steam I meant.

I'd just turned 18 when Half Life 2 came out. I ordered an XL kebab with chilli and garlic, and salt and pepper chips from my local kebab shop while the game was installing.

Ate good junk food and played until the early hours of the morning. Not a care in the world.
Remember it like it was yesterday.

It's... quite staggering to think about how long it's been. Life is fleeting, friends.
