Oh man! No one's ever pointed that out before in these threads! That's too funny!

Let me guess; Shabaz got banned for saying Halo 2 sucks. Yep, this forum has gone to hell.

Well, I can't say I'm not bitter about this rapid price drop. I was one of the early adopters who felt the burn (in my wallet- watch that button mods) immediately after purchase. I would advise people to just wait for the $19.99 price point.

Can't go wrong with $54.99/29.99 for 200 hours of fun. Bring on the map pack.

I figured they did it so you can buy both Halo2 and the map pack for $50....

Yeah, and of course it's dropped faster, because it's sold faster. Only so many people are going to buy the game, and a greater percentage of the potential user base bought the game in much less time, so it makes sense to drop it, especially if there's going to be a Halo 3 in 2006.

I would agree with that. Seems like an awesome idea. You get Halo 2, the new map pack and 2 months free to Xbox live all for $49.99. Sounds like a good deal to me.

yay!

I have a question regarding these price drops: is there ever a general 'waiting period' for games to cheapen in price? or is pretty much whenever the publisher feels happy/desperate?

Exactly. The first Halo was a steady seller over a long period of time. It sold modestly well up front, then continued to put up solid numbers every month over the next three years.

When Halo 2 came out, it was extremely front-loaded, because most of those people who gradually bought Halo wanted Halo 2 as soon as it was released. Once it passed the first game's numbers, I think a relatively quick pricedrop was a given.

No set time period, for most games that don't bomb its normally around 6 months for one price drop, typically to 29.99.
