Microsoft has announced that the PC version of Halo 2 will only work on the new version of Windows called Vista.

The decision could make it expensive for many to play the game if they have to buy the new version of Windows and extra hardware for their PC.

Microsoft has given no definite release date for Vista but it is expected to be available by the end of 2006.

Vista FTW! :lol

Master Chief Dual-Wields His Way to Windows Vista

“Halo 2,” the award-winning sequel to the instant classic “Halo: Combat Evolved” to make its PC debut on the Windows Vista platform

Brussels, 9 February, 2006: ”Halo 2,” the game that redefined first-person combat and multiplayer action for millions of gamers worldwide, is set to explode onto PCs exclusively for Windows Vista. ”Halo 2” for Windows Vista will be developed by a dedicated Microsoft Game Studios team in partnership with Bungie Studios.

Only for Windows Vista, "Halo 2" will offer gamers both the single-player campaign and multiplayer experience of the original, as well as the additional maps offered in the “Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack.” Gamers will also have the exciting opportunity to build, create and customize their own multiplayer levels.

“Halo: Combat Evolved” and its sequel, “Halo 2,” have achieved phenomenal success on the Xbox video game platform as gamers around the world follow the saga of Master Chief in his battle against the Covenant forces. In 2003, the original “Halo” roared onto Windows PCs. In “Halo 2” for Windows Vista, the action picks up where the first game ended. Master Chief, with the help of a small group of marines, has destroyed the religious artifact and artificial world known as “Halo,” and is making his way back to Earth. There, he and the last surviving Earth forces will mount a titanic struggle against the marauding Covenant enemy. To date, the Halo franchise has sold more than 14.5 million games worldwide with over 600 million hours of multiplayer action logged across Microsoft’s Xbox Live online gaming service.

Accomplished.

They'd better tack a new renderer onto it to at least justify the hardware investment most people will make to accomodate Vista..

MOTHERFUCKING COCKSUCKER! I PAID $50 FOR HALO PC AND PLAYED THE SHIT OUT OF IT, EGARLY EXPECTING HALO2 TO COME TO PC ABOUT 6 MONTHS AFTER THE XBOX VERSION, BUT THE PORT NEVER MANIFESTED. NOW THEY WANT ME TO UPGRADE TO VISTA TO PLAY IT?! I WAS CONSIDERING QUITTING PC GAMING AND GOING BACK TO CONSOLES. THIS SHIT ALMOST SEALS IT! FUCKHEADS!~

Only with the power and efficiency of Vista will PC gamers experience the unparalleled bump mapping, detail texturing, and awe inspiring draw distances that Halo 2 brings to the table.

I certainly hope that the people screaming bloody murder are some of the about 20 people who bought Halo 1 pc

As if most people aren't gonna upgrade to Vista "somehow" anyway

Most people won't bother for a good 6 months generally, and XP seems fine for most people so probably not for years.

And I'll bet you that the game could very well run on XP... they just put some kind of "If OS$ != "Vista" Then Function YoureFuckedUpTheAss()"

Way to go, M$!

Its a real shame to see how Bungie has basically become a big "fuck you" to all the mac users that made them successful in the first place.

I like that function :lol :lol :lol

They just sold me Vista, so much for the Media Center Edition stop gap. Why not enhance it all and put it on 360 as well, morons.

I think the MS buyout may have something to do with it. Just maybe.

think the only way they can justify this is if the game is massively upgraded visually and has a shit load of new content.

I don't think Bungie get much say in the matter now.

The reactions in this thread are pretty amusing. Is this really that big of a deal to you guys? I know everyone here loves to get worked up about something, but why not save it for something really big?

And :lol at the comment about Bungie giving the big FU to Mac gamers. Hey buddy, you're about five or six years late with that one.

Instead of giving us PC gamers Halo 3 as a reward for upgrading to Vista, Microsoft throws some lame-ass, 3-years old port of a shitty console game.

Way to go MS :lol :lol :lol

-1 Vista

Woah. of course the MS buyout has a lot to do with it. I remember the day it was announced and thinking basically what i just posted. I was just saying it was a real shame. I felt they were much more focused on their fan base way back when.

BTW that leaves how many Xbox-exclusive AAA titles that aren't playable on the PC?

0?

:lol :lol :lol

Where's Speevy when I need him :lol

The only hardware investment is another an additional 512 megs of RAM over the original XP, and I severely doubt you'd be running Halo 2 with XP's minimum of 64 megs of RAM. Aside from that, hardware requirements are identical.

Uh huh... sure thing, Mr. PC Gamer. You know damn well you'll buy it eventually. What are you going to do - switch to a Linux box? Mac, perhaps? I'm laughing.

Eventually, your only choice will be Vista or console gaming. You know it's true. Oh wait... I hear Google is making an OS - maybe you could wait for that!
