Halo 2, Legendary: Zero deaths. Rather large video

Legendary, no deaths - watch it
I hesitate to mention this, because the files are enormous... but hey, what the heck. A couple of weeks ago, we mentioned that Cody Miller had completed the Twin Galaxies Halo 2 Bounty - complete Halo 2 on Legendary difficulty, with no deaths... today, he posted a note that the finished run had been uploaded to archive.org. There are two versions - a low-res, 800 mb copy... and a higher-res, 2 gb copy. (Yes, you read that right, 2 gigabytes. It is, after all, three and a half hours long.) QuickTime format. Amazing. Simply amazing. He makes it look almost easy... Update: For those having trouble with a direct download of the larger file, we've made it available via BitTorrent as well (with a chunk of seed bandwidth to boot). Remember - this puppy's 2GB large.

If anyone could have done it, it's Cody Miller (Halo fans know him from the Legend videos back in the day, and the Halo 2 Legendary walkthrough over at HBO).

Downloading the low-res one now (only 90 minutes to go!).

Here's a small snippet from early on. Love Contana's line at the beginning.... :lol

If the video wasn't there to prove it, I would probably have a difficult time believing that.

Practice makes perfect, I guess. Props to him. It's Miller time! [/lame joke]

goddamn. that must have taken a LOT of patience, what with the one-hit sniper kills. among other things. downloading now.

If the low quality is similar to other low quality vids, it'll be kind of hard to make some things out. Really blurry/grainy (from the LQ's I've dled before).

But this may be different, or may not be.

Damn, how'd he get through that one canyon area with the river running through it without any sniper deaths?

So many difficult areas in that game. A truly remarkable feat.

they should have made it 4GB at twice the resolution

FIOS, huh? Bastard. I like living in the city, but I'd almost consider moving to get speeds like that for $40.

OMG...if I ever downloaded at that speed I'd shat everywhere...!
Amazing.

Makes me want to download it at work since I get nearly twice that speed at work (a direct line into gigabit fiber rules all :) ).

one question, is this straight through the whole game, or one level at a time? i know cody miller is awesome, but if he literally played straight through on legendary and never died, he is a god.

by the way, anyone know his gamertag? i'd love to see how this guy fares on xbox live. hes been leading the charge on all halo challenges since the beginning

From what I know about TwinGalaxies, it should be all the way through, in one shot. TG doesn't allow saves/segmented videos for almost anything to be a record there.

Single Segment is pretty much defined as a one-shot from start to end.

I downloaded some of Cory Millers old Halo 1 videos, and he was an amazing player - if anyone can do this it's him.

But I still can't believe it until I see it. I consider myself a pretty good player, but I get slaughtered in legendary mode. He's got to have messed up at least once. Either that or he must be totally avoiding most of the enemies somehow (glitch or shortcut?).

TG doesn't allow many shortcuts or glitches to be used (depends on the individual game), but surely there will some stuff that will wow people.

heh, iirc cody miller had a halo 1 legendary vid where he passed that battle "into the belly of the beast" on truth and reconciliation using only melee attacks.

awesome shit.

Halo 2 Legendary is so much more about memorization. I believe it is possible to do what this guy did if you invested a ridiculous amount of time memorizing enemy placement and patterns.

But Halo 1 Legendary >>>>>>> Halo 2 Legendary because Halo 1 Legendary was challenging without being cheap.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Halo 2 messed up the joy that was Halo Legendary and for that reason alone I still think Halo is the better game.

i only watched the first hour, just after the part where you take down that tower as the arbitier

crazy stuff....there's so many spots where it seemed like he was gonna die, but still insane enough to proceed through the level like it's nothing

To answer your earlier question - it's a straight run-through. One sitting, 3.5 hours, no breaks or saving. :0

Here are some of his (shorter) past videos:

"Into the Belly of the Beast" - Halo 1 section on Legendary beaten with only melee attacks.

Legend Collection of amazing clips of bold Legendary play on Halo 1. The Gold Elite kill is incredible.

Legend 2 Follow-up to his first vid, with a truly amazing last shot.

Watch those three. Like I said, if anyone could beat Halo 2 on Legendary in one sitting without dying - it's him.

(Right-click and save-as for the above)

I don't agree with that. Difficulty wise, halo 1 legendary = halo 2 heroic. Those are the difficulties I play if I want a fun challenge. After a while, though, they became quite easy, and that's where halo 2 legendary comes in. It's for people who can do h1 legendary and h2 heroic in their sleep

I've done the single-segment-speed-run-no-death-thing multiple times, on both Halo 1 and 2 legendary. I've also done it multiple times in co-op. I had no idea there was any kind of bounty though. Was there some kind of cash prize, or is that just Twin Galaxies way of posting an open challenge for someone to run a game?

Anyways, it's cool that someone put a run like this to video.

twin galaxies has a huge list of bounties for 2005. list here:

for this particular bounty, it's only $150. not much at all but i guess it's all for bragging rights

Thanks for the link. I wish they offered more bounties for current gen games. In particular, I speak of MGS3. My run in progress is over 8 months in the making, and is already light years ahead of any possible competition. The bounty would be mine by default. :)

if i'm not mistaken, this bounty is for the fastest time, not just the completion. you have till jan 31 06 to get in a submission i think. go for it.

Really....hmm. I'm currently fully occupied by my MGS3 run, and don't know when I'll be finished. I'm also probably pretty rusty with Halo 2. I haven't really played it since the end of 2004. Perhaps if my MGS3 run is done in time, I'll see what I can do.

yes halo 1 legendary is actually really easy.. played it some just recently.. after playing halo2 on legendary.. it seems VERY easy in comparison.. almost like halo 2 on heroic, yes

Halo2 on legendary is not even that hard, though the snipers ARE cheap.. great, great AI makes it very fun though..
