Halo 2 Questions (I know..I'm late)

Good game, not the all-encompassing world destroyer but fun. Anyway, because my TV is old and run down I could not hear half of what was said during cut-scenes and in-game so I have a few questions.

What was that large green plant thing? I thought I heard Flood leader but I'm not sure. If it is the Flood leader why did it send the Chief and the Arbiter after the icon?

Why did one prophet let the other prophet get eaten by the Flood?

What do you get if you beat it on legendary?

Why did Cortana stay behind if Keyes could just take the Icon out of Halo, thus stopping the ring from firing?

Is the last prophet going to earth to attack Earth or is the Earth the Arc? (At least I think they said Arc)

Why is the game billed as the fight for Earth and you are only there for like 5 hours?

Thanks for the help. And if anyone feels like give a complete backstory and mythology from both games go ahead....it will probably clear up anymore questions I might have.

Shoot.

What was that large green plant thing? I thought I heard Flood leader but I'm not sure. If it is the Flood leader why did it send the Chief and the Arbiter after the icon?

Either the leader or the final evolution of the Flood. He's called Gravemind in either case.

He sent the two of them to do his dirty work.

Why did one prophet let the other prophet get eaten by the Flood?

I think it was the prophet that failed earlier in the game.

What do you get if you beat it on legendary?

Nothing. Except the challenge of it all.

Why did Cortana stay behind if Keyes could just take the Icon out of Halo, thus stopping the ring from firing?

Hmm, well, who knows? :)

Is the last prophet going to earth to attack Earth or is the Earth the Arc? (At least I think they said Arc)

Earth is the Arc, just fueling speculation that the forerunners were indeed humans.

Why is the game billed as the fight for Earth and you are only there for like 5 hours?

Misleading advertizing. The galactic rump all over the universe can be seen as an attempt to diversify levels, but I don't buy it.

Thanks for the help.

You're welcome

Don't buy what?

They never intended the story to stick with just the earth invasion. If you look at the earliest articles covering the game, it becomes even more obvious (they stated that you'll visit other halos and the covenant homeworld, for example). They purposely tricked people, kinda like the Snake/Raiden thing. Their intention was to suprise everyone who played the game.

I don't believe they were attempting to be malicious here. It was all in good fun. Problem is, a lot of people didn't see it that way and felt cheated. I LOVED what they did with MGS2, but we all know that their suprise ruined the game for a lot of people. I'm happy with the approach Bungie took, but they should have been more careful, as it was pretty obvious that most people can't handle MGS2-like suprises.

I loved the campaign in Halo 2. It wasn't quite as buttoned up as the original game, but it was DAMN good. One of the best single player FPS games ever made. They managed to pull together an amazing presentation and usage of media assets (some of the best usage of music in the industry) while also delivering the best play mechanics in the genre (BY FAR).

I buy into the "Humans are the forerunners" theory from other hints in the game (both of them), but are you sure about this "Earth is the Arc" thing?

I was thinking it was "Ark" and 2401 Penitent Tangent was talking about the Forerunner ship that the MC was in when he was speaking of the location where all the rings could be fired remotly from.

EDIT -- Hmm maybe I was mistaken .

Actually, I think he was referring to Mercy, not Regret. Truth prevented Tatarus from saving Mercy when an infection form attached to his neck.

Truth figured with Regret already out of the way, if Mercy died, he'd have total control of the Covenant.

As far as disappointment in the story, the replay of the whole Raiden/Snake type thing bit, true, but a lot of fans were also disappointed that the ilovebees.com thing and the novels didn't enter into story at all. Hell, Bungie's gone out of their way to say that ilovebees is non-cannon, as well as some of the stuff in the First Strike book, which sucks as both were created with Microsoft's consent.

I dont play Halo 2 multiplayer alot, and it being "noobified" is the reason why.

But now we're off topic.

I think it was the prophet that failed earlier in the game.

The Prophet that failed earlier in the game was killed by Master Chief iirc, not by the flood. The old dude was the one killed by the flood.

That video conveniently forgets about online play. If there was no autoaim, the combination of analog sticks and latency would ensure you never hit anything, ever, under any circumstances, unless it was by accident.

and why I can get a good accuracy on XBC on Halo 1?
plus there are other FPS on Live that doesn't have the electro-magnetic auto aim of Halo 2.
the game is indeed noobified

in the 1.1 patch Bungie even adressed some auto-aim values because the negative feedback, but the auto-aim is still annoying (try to shoot 2 or more objetives that are close to each other you can't even control where you want to aim)

I think it's being led to buy a game for an expected scenario, but being short-changed and delivered something else throughout most of the game. Unless the surprise is actually better than the expectation, it will lead to disappoitment. And quite rightfully so.

There are some mysteries surrounding the development of Halo 2, but one thing the DVD extra made clear is that development was in limbo for quite a while and they didn't seem to know which direction to take. Couple that with the Xmas 2004 deadline, the missing MP maps, some of the bugs and how the Campaign mode abruptly ends and it gives you a feeling of a game rushed.

The fact of the matter is, XBC was NOT reliable.

The game is not noobified. The system has changed, but new players WILL be slaughtered by those who know how to play. Aiming simply isn't THAT important in the grand scheme of the game...

Compared to the 1st one and almost every other FPS it is. Just play H:CE again and you will find it (in shorts words H:CE has a more solid and gameplay).
It still requires a good amount of skill but not in the aiming (and this is very important because the game is a FPS), is more like a teamwork, timing and location skills.

It isnt your TV. IMO, this was the my biggest problem with the game...muffled audio during cutscenes (only after beating the game did I know there were subtitles available). I had everything running through a what I would like to think is a good surround set up (with the center channel cranked for this reason), and I still didnt know what wtf was going on. I remember at least twice flipping out on my GF because I would try to completely focus on what was said and still not know what was going on. The introduction of Gravemind was far and away the worst offender.

S'ok Stinkles, 90% of the people on this board only hit people in Halo 2 by accident anyway. :D

I found the arc they were talking about.

Can't wait for the sequel.

Halo 3: Attack on East St. Louis

Thanks. Also, when are David Cross and Laura Prepon's voices in the game. I listened but didnt hear them.
I think I heard Cross in the stage when you board the scarab. Possibly Laura, too.

Laura Prepon does the voice of the female marine who gives you a shotgun in the third mission I believe. David Cross is all over the place in Zanzibar, he also rides the scorpion across the bridge.

When the game is subtitled is it only for cutscences or does the stuff ingame get subtitled as well. Like when the prophets and Cortana speaks.

Isn't there an option for both?

Dont know. Hopefully there is.

Sorry to keep adding stuff but remember one of the first Halo 2 movies that came out where you meet up with the Marines in the city, watch the Covenant cannon destroy a few buildings, and eventually ride on the back of the warthog blasting shit....is that in the game? I didnt run into it.

You're talking about the E3 2003 demo. Parts of the level appear in the game (last level on Earth), but they changed it so much not much can be recognized, aside from a few locales and some speech samples.

Personally, the demo looked a lot more fun than what it ended up in the game.

I still don't really see how...

The final game clearly plays pretty much the same as what they were attempting to show us, but that particular piece they created for the demo was EXTREMELY linear.

Just so you all know, the Halo 2 Playlists have been updated. Turf and Sanctuary are now in the regular Playlists, and the Maptacular Maps are now in Team Preview. Rumble Preview has been added, and the Bashee has finally been removed from Slayer BR games! Thank God!

It was and so was most of the parts of Metropolis (I think that is the name of the last Earth level in Halo 2). You're stuck on a bridge, inside tunnels... :)

And on that note.

Relic Assault, Team Slayer, and Plots are by far the most retarded shit I have ever seen.

Assualt - yeah lets put the bomb spot on the top of a giant bottle neck.

Plots - How bout we put a point next to a SNIPER tower. That should be fun.

Slayer - Horde the snipers and head over to the hill above the downed human ship. Nobody can touch you.

And they haven't fixed the Relic teleport bug yet.....

This isn't a bug fix, that's coming in a week or two. They need to have an actual patch for that. Relic is a great map, by the way. Tons of fun.

1 flag ctf is the only gametype that should be played on it.

the rest is just unbalanced whoring.

Also just to add, Terminal on team slayer. What idiot ok'd 1 sniper rifle and 1 rocket next to a giant easy to guard base. It is like Bungie staff has never touched competative Quake and Unreal before....
