Halo 2 Septemberish Update - Multi-Team playlist

Sounds good to me:

-------------

Multi-Team, in this instance will largely consists of 4 teams per game, with 3 players per team (3v3v3v3).

Our Multi-Team matchmaking playlist is going to include a mixture of deathmatch and objective games, featuring lots of new variants. Some of the more bizarre ones include:

- “Multi-balls” (2 oddballs) or as I like to call it, total anarchy.
- “Plasma Wars” (Plasma Weapons, No Vehicles, No Grenades, Brute Plasma Rifle start)
- “Gulch Wars” (Coagulation only, Scorpions and Warthogs, Human Weapons, BR start) which you'll notice sounds kind of old-school huh? A little bit Halo: CE. It definitely pays homage – but it's got some Halo 2 flava too.

That sounds fun. I gotta give Bungie props, almost a year later and they're still mixing stuff up, keeping it somewhat fresh.

Other enjoyable tidbits...
We're making that type of adjustment to a few maps too, such as including Battle Rifle starts on Terminal and Relic (yes, we hear you) for Rumble Pit types – but the objective games will retain the default weapon sets – since that's how they're designed to work. Most of the complainers only complain about the starting weapon set in Slayer games anyway.

And once more with feeling, I am really, really bad with the Battle Rifle. Horrible. I get OWNED when there are Battle Rifle starts. It's torture. I'm the only one running around dual wielding human pistols. Anyway, more next week. And Mister Chief is taking a well-earned vacation.

When I first heard about Double Team this is what I thought they meant...Multi-Team. But I'm definitely glad they're adding new stuff like this. I haven't played Halo 2 in two weeks, but I'm sure once I start back up I'll get pulled in again.

Woo! Four teams should be crazy. Nice to hear that they'll be adding and changing stuff up.

Btw, more battle rifle starts = good. :)

So have they explained why they won't limit the sword, so it actually runs out after a while? I never really understood why it's unlimited in muliti-player.

Ooooh, I can't wait. Halo 2 can be the best game ever when the players/teams are good. I think 3 on 3 on 3 on 3 will be tons of fun, especially as one team starts to own the others and people start to team up on them.

Team Multi-Balls sounds amazing. I love oddball and multiple teams with two balls will make it absolutely brutal. Should be great times. :)

I'd like to see teams of four teams of 4 and three teams of 5 also.

I must say Bungie is doing a great job now supporting Halo 2, and Map Pack sales show that it's worth it.

The only wish I currently have is that matchmaking would be based on highest level overall, not based on the level within the specific playlist.

That's a nice update and all, but I'll probably be gone by then. I wanted a 16 player slayer playlist(on SMALL maps)....oh the chaos would have been magnificent. :)

WHAT? Small map Slayer is allready a cheese fest as it is. Wait for fight to break out, stay out of it, throw a grenade, jump in kill everyone. It would be that, but worse.

Also, sword needs to be more limited.. it and the rocket are both super powerfull.. they had the foresight to limit the rockets ammo, but not the sword... if you are playing an objective game (CTF especially) the team with the sword should win unless the guy with the sword is an idiot.

Also, I suck with BR's. Hate the things. but, the maps they are putting them on are probably good calls, the are too wide open, and you have no chance when you spawn in against people who have decent weapons allready.

Ugh, that would be absolutely horrible. That is, unless you don't care about actually having fun. :-/

I would like to see Big Team Slayer added eventually...But I also want Halo 3, so I don't want to take too much of Bungie's time :lol

I bet that the playlist is only a text file that you dl from the server and it setup the game that Bungie wants to put.

# of players
# of teams
Type of game
Select a map according to the type of game

Remember that there were some people that modded it to play the games that they only wanted, In highly doubt that updating the playlist will take a considerable portion of time is just that they want to keep the game "fresh" by showing slowly every possible modes.

frankie said awhile ago that this is the case

I guess I'm the only one who'd enjoy seeing bodies fly all over the place.....

I kinda like the sound of the Gulch Wars gametype. It's too bad the vehicles are no longer indestructible so that I can't park on the hill behind red base, swing around and then tank snipe.

my biggest problem with the Halo 2's Live multiplayer is having the mini map on by default, giving away enemy locations. it means i have to constantly be looking back and forth at the screen and then the lower right map looking for red dots.

you don't see gay shit like that in PC FPS online, unless it is a strategic thing built into the gameplay (ie: BF2 the commander can send a UAV overheard, but it only lasts for a short while and only covers a small area)

and yes i know it can be turned off, but nobody turns it off (mostly cause it's on by default and nobody messes with it usually).

Slayer PRO is the best mode in H2

-No radar
-Battle Rifle start

OMG a funny VG Cats! :lol That doesn't happen very often

Sorry, it never happens.

"Gulch Wars"?? You've got to be kidding me. 4 teams and SCORPIONS? Even with 3 rocket launchers on the map, that's fucking dumb.

Big Team Slayer would have to be to 100 to be worthwhile. I hate the slayer games in BTB because a) they're usually BR start, and people in BTB blow ass with the BR, and b) no chance of making a comeback.

Yes, having separate levels for each playlist renders the whole system a bit pointless. If you're level 300 in Team Slayer, it makes no sense for you to be matched with level 1 peeps in a playlist you rarely play.

you know, i definitely agreed with you in halo 1. i always turned off the motion tracker, it seemed sooo lame to me that it was in multiplayer.

but you know what? having spent sooo much time playing halo 2, its just another brilliant addition to the game that i couldl not live without now (like the shields). it adds another layer of strategy to the game, knowing when you should make your self vulnerable by moving so slowly, or when to forgo any surprise and rush right in. plus, it allows you to trick enemies into following you into traps (try running away from an enemy carrying a shut gun, only to double back crouch walking, to a position around a corner... then shut gunning him in the face), or into thinking that you had been eliminated in a gun fight.

I plan on playing this in a few hours. icebergisonfire if you are down. I'll be playing team slayer

And when you shotgun him in the face, his shields are still up! And then he blows you away with one shot! YES

wtf are you talking about?

besides, if somehow he survives, a quick melee afterwards will always finish em off
