I think one of the magazines said Bungie referred to it as the "Warthog of the sky", though I'm not sure which one. Would be odd to call it that and not put it in MP.TacticalFox88 said:For the love of God please let that be playable in MP. :'(

Sketch's run down on the 3D art had the phrase. I pointed out multiplayer implications when the article was linked, but the more I'm seeing the bigass guns on it, the more I'm thinking it was metaphorical: Fast transport with mounted weapons.GhaleonEB said:I think one of the magazines said Bungie referred to it as the "Warthog of the sky", though I'm not sure which one. It means holding down the trigger and then firing or just pressing the trigger over and over. It has been a feature of the PP since CE.bobs99 ... said:Some VERY interesting Tidbits from the ordinance pages:
The DMR "Although it saw more widespread use throughout all branches of the UNSC prior to 2548, it has since been superseded in use by the BR55 in all branches but the Army." :lol
The Plasma Pistol: "This small directed energy weapon has two modes of fire: semi-automatic direct and semi-guided AOE. The secondary AOE mode drastically reduces battery life. " - firing modes!?? very interesting
The Spirit: "It is capable of carrying up to 30 infantry and 2 vehicles" - that leads to the opportunity of some BIG scale battles!
Let me start by saying I think people are getting really carried away with this Shadowrun analogy. The reticule in Reach sounds like it'll work similar to how it's worked in Ghost Recon, RS3, and most other realistic shooters. Representing the gun's varying spread through the reticule is definitely not something unique to Shadowrun. Sure comparisons can be made between Shadowrun's rifle and the DMR but it's not that special a comparison when all single-shot rifles in realistic shooters work that way.bobs99 ... said:On someone's recommendations here I downloaded the Shadowrun trial, and its pretty awesome, am I right in thinking that magic is ONLY obtainable through like purchasing at the starts of matches and not actually on the map somewhere to fight over?
This is less off topic than it seems, I think some of the Shadowrun stuff will carry over to Reach and im pretty interested in hearing how shadowrun works
the reticule is crazy on Shadowrun on Reach it should only move when firing!
Sounds like the same method of pumping the trigger to pepper PP shots and holding the trigger to charge the shield draining shot. The only new thing, and I think this was mentioned in the Swedish article, is the AOE. I don't think any previous PP had an AOE, it only drained the shield of the individual or vehicle directly hit by it. Little ambiguous on what AOE it may be referring to so there may be no change at all.bobs99 ... said:The Plasma Pistol: "This small directed energy weapon has two modes of fire: semi-automatic direct and semi-guided AOE. I won't get a chance to listen to this until later tonight, but that certainly sounds promising. We take a break from our weekly Thursday show format to bring you yet another exclusive special edition podcast, this time centering on Bungie's much-anticipated prequel Halo: Reach. Host Matt Helgeson gathers together the GI staffers that were lucky enough to see the game in action: cover story author Matt Miller, Bryan Vore, and Dan Ryckert. In the first segment, we get the gang's impressions of the game, and get the inside scoop on the game's exciting new features, storyline, characters, and weapons. In the second segment, we open up the reader mailbag and answer Gameinformer.com user queries about the game. The podcast also features some exclusive music from the Halo: Reach soundtrack.

Nice. Jun's profile tomorrow.
I also had a question about something. Do the Spartan III's have the unbreakable skeleton enhancement like the Spartan II's? I can't remember.
You never know. There is that blank profile on the Bungie site that is classified still. Maybe it will be the AI?duk said:im hoping there is a secret not yet reveiled member of noble team... bungie loves the #7 after all!

It's glorious. We didn't even have this much news pouring for Halo 3 until mere weeks before launch.Letters said:Damn, we go almost half a year without anything, and now we seem to get new stuff every couple of hours. Crazy!
Thanks everyone who posted something new.

Ah. It's got splash damage now. Neato.urk said:If you're too close to the impact of a charged burst, it'll deplete your shields. The closer you are, the more damage it'll do.

Good deal. Really want to see it in action. To see if it has an AOE when don't hit an enemy or vehicle directly and play the beta to see how effective the shield draining magnitude and radius are.urk said:If you're too close to the impact of a charged burst, it'll deplete your shields. I thought we were done posting these? It slightly ruins the characters. That one looks amazing tho.
edit- The podcast had no new info, but it was interesting nonetheless to hear they talk about the game. I'm slightly annoyed at the promise of exclusive new Reach music... new to your podcast? It was just the same old vga trailer music that's been up on Bnet for ages.

Yeah, nothing really to report that isn't already known except for the tiniest of details.EazyB said:GI podcast pretty tame so far. What I've collected so far from it:
Probably only play as LWG.
The skirmishers didn't have shields in what they saw. Also compared them to evil big bird. Hmm...
Duration of the powerups vary. "Sprint for like 5 seconds" while camo lasts longer.
VISR is out. So nightvision =/= VISR

That has me wondering if night vision would be an armor ability. So you'd always have the flashlight handy, with the ability to snag night vision. Looking at that night time mission, a natural way to mix up the gameplay would be to give the player the option of picking up a sniper rifle and night vision, or camo to sneak around in the dark doing assassinations.EazyB said:VISR is out. Sounds pretty damn sweet, especially if there are particle and sound effects making it believable (i.e. the plasma burning and searing in the wall, as Edge described it).urk said:If you're too close to the impact of a charged burst, it'll deplete your shields. In the dark lit moments in ODST (which were quite plenty) there really was no reason to turn it off.Thagomizer said:I can't believe people don't like VISR. I thought it was amazing.
The only downside is that it was TOO useful. There was literally no reason to turn it off in low-light conditions from a gameplay perspective. I think it would be fine if it was made a little less omniscient.
Since Bungie added dual wielding, they did bring down the power of the guns like the Plasma Pistol, Plasma Rifle, and the Needler (though Halo 3's Needler rocked).Tashi0106 said:There's more I wanna elaborate on but I haven't thought it all out yet. I believe these weapon "problems" are not so much about the weapons themselves but the entire game and every aspect. Halo 3 is a very very team oriented game and that seems to be forgotten sometimes. It's understandable though.
And was later unexplained by sketch. Though it'll be properly explained in tomorrow's BWU.NullPointer said:According to posts in the this thread it looks like the wonky reticule was explained as a bug in theater mode, used to capture those screens.
