Was playing some Big Team earlier and we were getting pumped so 4 of our guys quit early on. It was just me and my brother left against 5 of them and they have a hefty lead. So what do they do? Grab a warthog with 2 banshees and have a dude in the middle with the laser/sniper of course :lol I thought it was a bit much considering. Link to the game (yes we're not very good).

Pretty late with this but I enjoyed the podcast. The DMR sounds awesome (even if I will be rubbish with it!) and the new reticule behaviour should be handy too.

Sucks, of course, but those are usually what Valhalla resolves to after a while.

Agree with you and Eazy. If this game was the first Halo title since 3 then I believe there would be much more hype currently than there is. Obviously, like you say, the multiplayer beta can negate this fatigued effect by showing the less hardcore that Reach is a true Bungie Halo game.

Yes you will. ME2 is possibly one of the best games I have ever played. I'm not the sort of person to sit and play a game for really extensive periods of time, unless the game is unbelievably engrossing; and I have played ME2 7 hours today. I can't believe it, I feel like some WoW addict. I may go and take a bath to wash the stench from my palms.


Also, I listened to the Bungie podcast last night and was mightily impressed by Sage. All the decisions he has made regarding weapon changes and removals were explained clearly and logically. He even managed to convince me that the DMR will in fact be a worthy replacement to the BR, a feat I never imagined possible. I'm also glad Luke managed to convince the team to put conventional assassinations back in as well.

Those are grabs from the trailer, but damn do they look good.

EDIT: I wonder if that data pad on Carter's arm is just for show, or if it will have some actual purpose...

All 4 team members (or 6, don't remember) are fighting against enormous odds before final mission. They will fall if they don't get reinforcement. The Camera pans out and there comes reinforcement lead by Master Chief. Eventually all 4 team members die. And you play final mission as Master Chief.
Well, that's not going to happen, considering MC wasn't on Reach at the time.

Also, Urk, you should have put the audio bits near the top. You know people will jump on that immediately.

AR sounds great actually. Hoping it plays as it sounds. DMR sounds like our single shot BR with more power. Mysterious weapon is... hmm. At first I thought of the Spartan Laser, but I doubt it.

Editor’s Note: We did drop in on David Candland, Bungie’s Lead UI designer earlier in the week to ask if HUD customization is something he’s ever considered implementing and the answer is yes. The problem with the multi-colored approach, it turns out, is that it can often blend into the color palette on display in a given environment, rendering it effectively unreadable. Since those color palettes can change dramatically from space to space (and even from room to room), it’s more problematic than just hooking up the technology and hoping for the best.

Last week I promised I’d try to scare up some source audio from some of the Halo: Reach weapons we’ve been detailing. I did you one better. I convinced Jay and C Paul to hand over five weapons you should already be familiar with and one you’ll never see coming.

(Anybody else notice there's not that much delay between Sniper shots :D )

That's a lot of :D => great update (much like I use DPM to rate montages, I use :D PP to rate BWUs :lol )

Ah, and I remember somebody talking about the sniper safety text here:
Myth: Some of the high resolution assets released on Bungie.net feature flipped and mirrored art. Bungie is lazy!
Truth: Astute observers noticed that the weapons on display in our high resolution galleries feature flipped/mirrored art. Seems a few people weren’t too happy with that. Seems even a few went as far as to call our team lazy. Suffice to say, those people are jerks and the texture issue on display was identified long before we published the shots. It’s definitely gonna be fixed for ship.

Awesome sound clips. Also, rate of fire of Sniper doesn't seem to be all that slow. I'm not sure but I think it sounds faster lol. I would put the audio into an editor and find the exact rate of all Halo snipers and compare them but...that's a little ridiculous. :lol

edit: Also, it doesn't sound like it was fired at the same interval for every shot.

The mystery one sounds fucking insane!
 
Urk, can you describe the kind of space you took those sound clips in? it sounded like the reverberations in a small canyon or large warehouse. It sounds really awesome :).

Those audio sounds were amazing. The weapons really pack a fucking punch and I love it.

Anyone notice how fast you can reload the AR judging from that audio clip?
 
The mystery weapon sounds like mortar weapon. It charges up and fires the projectiles and after contacting a surface for a moment of time, detonates.

Sounds like a high tech ONI weapon or Covenant.

No need to be sorry. The shots might not be new, but the quality certainly was far better than any version of the trailer I've seen.

The weapon sounds...damn! So good. They all sound so deadly. DMR sounds so awesome.
Mystery sounded like a plasma grenade launcher, to me. The plasma sound and the 3 sounds at the end of the mystery sound similar.

Yeah, well, I also read that all of the Spartan-III’s save two were dead. Explain that!
The idea that SPARTANS never die is a key element of the SPARTAN mystique--and was wholly manufactured by Section 2 of the ONI when they made (limited) info on the Spartans public back in 2547. The fact is that SPARTANS do die. But chances are that if the fighting is bad enough to kill a SPARTAN, nobody else is likely to live to tell about it. Directive 930 states that SPARTANS can only be listed as WIA or MIA.
But that doesn't answer the question! :p
How did the Spartan-IIIs get moved from their companies to Noble Team? Is it as simple as Kurt and Mendez deciding to give some of their assets to the Army? If they did survive operations like TORPEDO and PROMETHEUS, how did they survive and why were Kurt and the other Spartan-IIIs told they didn't?

Love the new sounds. The echo makes for a good feeling of force. The frag's concussion leaves an amazing impression as well though the plasma's explosion sounds a little too similar to the frag's now. The sizzle before the detonation is really the only difference between the two.

Kinda bummed none of my questions were addressed though.

The new covie gun sounds like a laser-equivalent anit-vehicle gun. Hopefully it fits into the sandbox better than the laser does.
 
The AR sounds amazing, I think I like it better than the sound of the Halo CE AR. DMR also sounds great. Also hitscan weapons and Falcon in MP makes me very :D

Holy shit what an awesome update. I take back what I said about Urk being sloppy, he left a whole mess of cool shit in that text box. Warthog of the skies CONFIRMED. Hitscan CONFIRMED. Reach not for Natal AWESOME.

I think that might be a response to a tweet I sent. Maybe I'm just pulling it out of my ass, but it seems pretty coincidental.

Regarding the sounds: That echo makes them sound damn impressive. I noticed the AR reload time seemed to take a while, but I don't remember the reload time in Halo 3, so maybe it just seemed longer in comparison. Liked the fizzle on the Plasma, seemed to remind me more of the CE grenades. Will analyse post-ME2 to figure out the timing in comparison to current weapons, understanding that it is subject to change. Gonna take a closer look at the new sound too. From the waveform, you can clearly see the charging and the four shots fired.

Lol at emblems.

Sad monitor is sad that Oonsk will replace him.

Also, not sure if it's conscientious, but the Falcon has the number 23, which lukems expressed desire to see as an emblem in game.

YES THIS...I immediately thought of the Gears 2 mortar gun.
