I didn't enjoy Fallout 3 all that much, and if you thought ME1's shooting felt unnatural and clunky you'd have a miserable time with Fallout. It also takes a shitload of time to get much of anything accomplished. ME2 improves on the shooting and UI over ME. About par as far as your average shooter goes but they've pushed a lot of the menu-based combat. Can't say for sure you'll like ME2 but I really doubt you'd enjoy Fallout.GhaleonEB said:Heh. I didn't like ME because it was an RPG trying to be a shooter, but in my (brief) encounter with it I thought it failed utterly at both. Everything from the UI to the loading to the controls were clunky and poorly designed. It just felt amateurish and incredibly unintuitive to play.
Thanks for the recommendations guys. I really didn't want to wade into the ME2 thread at this point and ask that question. :lol
You should probably get that checked out.GhaleonEB said:Thanks guys. Back to looking for a different game. ODST was the last retail game I bought and I need something. Got the itch. :lol

Fallout is less about story and more about exploring the world IMO. I skipped part of the quest and finished the main story in 7 hours. But then I just explored, finding stuff and talking to dudes.big ander said::lol :lol
And I guess it's not fair to single out cat helmets as something that scares my dog. He's frightened by everything. Like the OJ carton.
I didn't enjoy Fallout much. I wanted the story to grab me, but it didn't, and I got tired of the game. My friends really want me to play ME and ME2, I've heard really good things about both.
EDIT: Dunno if you have it already, and it's a fairly old game, but that means you could find it cheap: Mirrors Edge. Excellent game, in my opinion.

Ghaleon, I think someone of your calibre may want to look into something like this:GhaleonEB said:Thanks guys. Back to looking for a different game. ODST was the last retail game I bought and I need something. Got the itch. :lol

Mass Effect 2 refers back to the original quite often, but if you just read a plot overview you should be ok. Is there a reason you didn't like Mass Effect 1? A lot of stuff hasn't change at all, other stuff has been simplified/removed and pretty much everything else is improved. Combat and technical issues are probably the most improved though.
Also Mass Effect 1 takes more than an hour to warm up. I pretty nearly quit early on and it ended up being one of my favorites this gen.

Three things prevented me from playing this (it's the first game I downloaded): It's EA (yuck, but I'll live), it's MP only (I want to at least learn the controls before I jump into a match made game), and the request to make some kind of account and give EA my email before I could play anything. Not happening.Kibbles said:Bad Company 2 (Mainly for MP, but who know's the Campaign may be good too.)

I liked Oblivion and not Fallout. I didn't give it a huge chance though.Kapura said:If you liked Oblivion, you'll like Fallout 3. It's Oblivion with guns, and more atmosphere and depth IMO.

But i been having a blast with my friends. Complete blast. I cant wait to play some other maps though.

Same here. Though I played through and beat Fallout 3, the combat was so atrocious I couldn't be bothered to play much more of it.user_nat said:I liked Oblivion and not Fallout. I didn't give it a huge chance though.
I agree, but Halo is a shooter, it's never going to have a story that deep.Merguson said:Mass Effect vs. Halo

Would love a Mass Effect styled game in the Halo universe.

Huh? I admit, the Elite butt grab scene was crazy sexy, but I don't know why you'd put any of those above Mass Effect's final battle.enzo_gt said:Halo's Ending > Halo 3's Ending > Mass Effect 1's Ending > Halo 2's tears.

In 2005, when gentle brontosaurs still roamed, we engaged in an ill-conceived "Hump Day Challenge" against Bungie that resulted in our utter dissolution. Does beating someone at a game which you, yourself invented represent authentic valor? It's an open question.
Beat us they did, though, and even in the year of our lord 2010 we could still feel the sting of their lash, the red heat of their brand. Five years hence, when the shame of it hung like an anvil about the neck, when the disapproving looks from greengrocers could no longer be borne, the gauntlet was thrown. The game? Table Tennis, which we didn't invent. Based purely on our match-day performance, though, you might think we had.
We augured through their roster, boring them out, collecting useful compounds and expelling the rest as a greasy exhaust. Let me offer an excerpt from my own game: I drew my racket across him in the Diving Swallow Style, and the gash in his belly yawned, dumping five pounds of steaming chitlins on the floor. "Get your intestines and get out of here, " I said, gesturing at his intestines and then the door.
Five games in, we had won four of them - which meant we had won the challenge. The last two opponents were visibly shaken, and with reason - theirs was a wholly justified breed of horror. Even victory would bring them no solace. They were like two escape pods, their boosters firing at the absolute threshold of their performance to escape the shredding wake of a stellar shockwave.
Spoiler warning: they did not escape. Six games to one. Penny Arcade.
So let all who claim some skill upon the four-quarter table come forth! Let those who dream of victory be known to us; such dreams are our meat, the cries of the vanquished are as sweet wine. Squirm from your burrows you wretches, you villains, you less than human things! Gaze upon the bright spires and splendid arcs of holy Arcadia!

Yeah. For as much of a Halo fan as I am, there's no way any ending to any Halo game beats ME1's ending.Flipyap said:Huh? I admit, the Elite butt grab scene was crazy sexy, but I don't know why you'd put any of those above Mass Effect's final battle.
I'd suggest getting ME2. The shooting in Fallout 3 is kind of weak unless you use the VATS system (even then, you aren't really doing the shooting yourself). I'd really recommend Mass Effect 2 as it greatly improves over the original in terms of combat and UI.GhaleonEB said:So not having played through any Fallout games, or the first Mass Effect, which would I be more lost in, ME2 or Fallout 3? Any recommendation in general of one over the other?
