She's a beautiful girl that's really a shame. I wish anyone who is hurting because of bullying could all be helped. They have so much to live for and they lose sight of that because of assholes and it's heartbreaking. If one person was there to give her a hug and tell them she mattered maybe it would've made a difference.

On a side note, I'm not a fan of them saying she "passed away." She didn't die in a car accident, she took her own life because she was fucking bullied and it needs to be reported as such so people can read what this kinda shit does to people. Don't soften the blow of the harsh reality. The harsh reality is important to stop bullying and save lives.

People seriously need to understand how crushing the consequences of bullying and online bullying can be.

I dont understand how young people handle ot tbh, when I was younger we didnt have social media; now days bullying is something young people cant get away from, they are exposed to it 24/7 with no break.

Just don't use social media? No one is forcing people to be on Facebook, Instagram or other garbage.
 
Horrific. So young and I had heard that company was making her one of its biggest stars. She had such a bright future.

I saw tweets of hers were she was talking about being depressed and people were replying with stuff like "why are you still around then?" I hope those people take a long deep look at themselves and consider what they've become.

For someone in her line of work you basically are forced to have a social media presence. Maybe the response to that then is "don't do that job then" but you can't keep defining your life by what assholes online will do. They're accountable for that, not her. She had a right to chase her dream career.

Uh, it's not been that long? Some/most people were part of some social media website before Facebook basically eradicated everything else. I joined too after someone urged me to do so but quit in less than a year because it was garbage and it had (mostly) low quality posts. Most then also switched to Facebook but a decent number dropped that even during school life, not to mention they didn't necessarily register under their real life name. So yeah, no such social media presence required. Most relevant thing these days is WhatsApp and that's basically no different than the instant messengers from ten yen years ago (and yes, they were relevant here until WhatsApp came along).

I don't know this young girl or her story, but it hurts my heart to see what was done to her and so many others through such heartless cruelty. As empathetic as I am...I will never understand the evil that is capable in the heart of some people.

God bless Hana's loved ones. My prayers are with them through all of this. 😞💔

Well said. As someone I consider religiously versed, I have a question about your take on this. Regarding the evil, are these actions our own or the temptations of bad acting spiritual influences? This miserable things that mankind does. Is that us alone?

My own belief is that sin begets an eventual dark spirit that continues to grow like a virus, and can even be passed onto others as well. Sin surrounds a person with demons (be them literal or figurative) that make destructive things seem attractive.

Eventually, these demons can corrode someone's spirit so much that not only do they not care about the suffering of others, but they actually find delight in it. 😔

Sometimes those negative feelings, even with others being positive and showing support for you, keep coming back to the forefront of your mind. We are all human but we are not all wired the same way mentally. That said, I believe you should treat others how you would want to be treated (be nice and respectful) and to not let what insults you hear from strangers - whether online or in real-life - get to you, though the latter is sometimes easier said than done. Rest in peace.

I wasn't familiar with her at all and don't quite understand the significance of the show or anything, but what a tragedy. Especially for such a beautiful young woman who probably had an exciting career ahead.

Shame people can be such fucking assholes.
 
Never knew who this was until this thread and I just skimmed some Google articles.

Looks like people were pissing her off in social media and she got depressed and committed suicide.

Well, add another incident to pressures from social media (although she probably got some opinions face to face too).

As many of us have said in the past. If you can't handle social media, shitty comments and emails, got to get off it. Stop reading it. But if you have to force yourself to do it for fame and making sure you got an online presence on Twitter, Instagram, an official YT channel and whatever other sites there are, then that's the path you got to accept if you want to keep doing it.

Although one thing you can do is have them and just block all comments.

No different than movie stars, musicians and other athletes. Rich and famous. Yet it seems half of them are drunks, druggies or are fucked up, when the average 40 year old working a normal job with a mortgage and paying for their kids college bills is probably more grounded even though they are a nobody and probably half broke.

Social media interactions aren't for everyone.

This really sucks, i hope that at least that things like this shine a light in how toxic it is to be invested in the opinion of hundreds of peoples every day, our brains are not made for that, we know this, yet we seem to keep pushing social media interactions into people faces.

This AI curated social networks like Twitter, IG and Facebook, where you are not using them to only communicate with selected people, but instead are there to get opinions and give opinions to complete strangers should have some kind of age restrictions or at least i wish that they did (or at least a limit to with how many people you interact, but this is not profitable so hardly see this happening any time soon) because maybe for me it's easy to just not expose myself to it, but we know for a fact that there are thousand of kids and teens growing up practically plugged to these massive public opinion pools that make them feel directly judged constantly and can't really pull themselves from it or stop giving importance to it.

So many science fiction pieces also made commentary of this maybe 15 years ago or more, yet we kept walking directly into the flame.

I actually watch this show (have to watch the Japanese version to keep up to date). The TLDR of what happened (what caused the bullying) goes something like:

* Goes on a trips w/some of the housemates which is kinda of a double date at the same time.
* Kai (dude she was going with) was out of it, struggling w/money, and thus was anti-social the entire trips (he probably shouldn't have gone).
* This angers her so she and the other girls on the house kind of start pressing him to leave by questioning why he's even there if he acted like he did (this is done in a petty, mean way).
* Kai accidentally washes her wresting outfit due to not checking if the washer/dryer were empty before starting a load
* She EXPLODES on him, he feels bad an apologies, leaves the house.

Most fans of the show felt she acted like a child when she lost. Kai definitely wasn't in the "right" but her reaction was FAR beyond warranted, esp against someone who was also CLEARLY struggling with mental illness himself. Both needed help and neither got it. Sadly for Hana, the internet can be a vindictive, shitty place.

Also worth pointing out, due to COVID-19 she was essentially out of work. She still collects some form of a minimum wage salary (as revealed on the most recent episode), but most of her income came as a % of sales of tickets + merchandise from shows, so this could've impacted her on top of the bullying.

That it's not accurate, the whole anger towards Kai starts because how broke and chill about it he seems, Hana start seeing Kai as a freeloader after the trip and when the costume incident happens, she snaps because those are expensive to make and are custom made. So it all devolves in a lecturing of Kai and how much of a freeloader he seems to the rest and Hana.
That it's the narrative of the show.

It was a summary it doesn't really contradict what you said. WRT to money, he wasn't being "chill" about it, he simply didn't know how the fix it thus made him feel ashamed. Being broke is why he constantly refused to do things like offering to pay for the bill and leaving the shop-early (thus anti-social). I also mention the costume part in the line below you didn't bold.

So, she disproportionally bullied him, then the internet disproportionately bullied her. Shitty human behavior all the way down, and a suicide, all because one person was having a few bad days, and goofed on his washing.

I can't think of a better example for current humanity.

You should never, ever hand power over your life, to the idiot mob, whether it's mortality or mental wellness. If you have existing mental issues that could stack on top of bullying, you need to stay well away from social media, or stardom.

We need to better prepare children for this. Drill it in that power over their life is ultimately theirs, and how worthless a lot of the criticism out there is, and the kind of places it comes from. In my opinion, this would be the most valuable thing that could be taught in a school, given what's at stake.

In any case, tragic. All this wreckage over what, really? She doesn't get to have a life. Her parents are probably broken and will never be the same again. Everyone else that loved her just had their life take a dark turn.
 
Wish there was a special Dislike reaction for some of you 'sensible advice' posters. When you are young (and I'd argue any age) being on social media is part of bring connected with your friends. It has so much weight.

As an old man in a long term relationship and some lasting friendships that go years back I dont need to rely for social media, But I can still remember when MySpace took over our collage and wanting to be included in that wave. I remember teasing a classmate for his misguided profile pictures. Anyways, it's not easy to disingage when you are young and still finding your way in this world.

The exact reason we hand out that sensible advice, is the rest of your post. It bears repeating a thousand times over, until it sinks in — you can't control the world's shittiness, but you can control your reaction to it.

Please though, continue the sudden emotional hysterics, acceptance of victimhood, and the begging for a dislike button. I'm sure it'll stop anything like this from happening again, as opposed to the sensible advice, and the mainstreaming of it.

I do not know her, but poor girl, sometimes I feel that we live in a horrible time because we are very involved in the internet and social networks.

It can be seen that she was a beautiful person and it hurts that she let herself by feelings taken away by some unknown internet idiots
 
Man, i feel that things like Lain and Perfect Blue are so relevant right now. It's a shame that they are stuck in the past when their comments are so contemporary.

Just gonna leave this here, because i think it relates with social networks and online presence in general.

If ever there is a reason for carrying a default position of kindness towards everyone it's when you see people like this. Some are just so incredibly sensitive - to words/energy, and they can't bear the flippant and thoughtless cruelty. It's a shame that some are so susceptible to that dumb and callous negativity, but they just don't have the inner strength to absorb or deflect it without great suffering. And so often they are beautiful souls with so much to offer. Oh the tragic irony.

Agreed. You can't just assume that the person on the other end of the keyboard can take endless abuse just because they happen to be in the public spotlight. We're all human, and we're not well adapted to this social media era yet.

Maybe not. But these social media sites bend over backwards to try to give people the ability to control what they see. Blocking features, feeds, etc. I mean, how does more this anti-cyber bully legislation help anyone? What we need to do, and what people need to do for themselves, is either grow some teeth and deal with the fact that it's the wild west, or get out of the wild west.

Anyways, I hope her soul finds peace and her family is able to heal from what must be a terrible ordeal.
