Season Info

13 episodes
Fun fact: Francis Dolarhyde is actually responsible for the FIRST crime scene that Will investigated in S1E1.
First seven episodes focus on Hannibal in Italy.
There is a time-jump mid-season; when we come back, Will is married to Molly. Book/movie spoiler:
Will retires from FBI after catching Lecter (he is gutted in the process). Crawford brings him back to help catch the Tooth Fairy (Francis Dolarhyde) and he consults Hannibal for help.

A lot of the following information was compiled after interviews and QA sessions at cons and other events. It includes character introductions and VERY general ideas on the episodes themselves. I don't know if it's "official announcement" territory, so I am spoiler-tagging just to be safe.

Episode 1:
"Antipasto" - Pilot for Hannibal and Du Maurier on the run in Italy one year after Season 2; all about their relationship, through three different periods of time
Episode 2:
Italian cop Pazzi introduced
Episode 3:
Chio/Lady Murasaki introduced, who is going to "kick all kinds of ass"
Episode 4:
Catch up on what happened to Will and Abigail
Episode 8:
"The Great Red Dragon" - Francis Dolarhyde introduced, as well as Molly
Episode 9:
"...And the Woman Clothed in Sun"
Episode 10:
"...And the Woman Clothed with the Sun"
Episode 11:
"...And the Beast from the Sea"

Can't freakin wait, trailer looks epic as one would expect from Hannibal. Most anticipated show on tv for me.

So, so beautiful ;_;

I hope Gillian Anderson doesn't spend the whole season looking lost/scared shitless though. She's the one part of the series that hasn't really clicked with me yet.

You misspelled it again at the bottom, though.

(apologies for the nitpickery - absolutely should have thanked you for the OP first. I was rude.)

Hahaha, god dammit. I spelled it both ways multiple times, apparently. Fixed, thank you! As for being rude...

Sucks Michael Pitt isn't coming back, I didn't know that :(

The physical state that Verger is in means it won't be as jarring a change, but I wish he could have come back.

However, Joe Anderson posted some pics of the Verger prosthesis and himself in makeup. Gonna link it, in case anyone wants to be surprised during the show:

Fuuuu..Such a long wait. I'll be working all summer too. At least I'll come home with a bunch of episodes ready to go.

Such a long wait, but good God is that a beautiful teaser. The wait was bearable until not having not seen anything. Now that they've given us that glimpse, I'm really disliking the move to summer.

So we know that this season will pull elements from (tagging things to be on the safe side)
Hannibal, Red Dragon, and Hannibal Rising
. Do we think they'll go through with all of
Hannibal now though? Or maybe save the Verger ending and brain eating for a later season?

You know, I'm not sure. The Vergers are definitely in this season, but I don't know the extent of their involvement. S3 speculation:
I wouldn't mind having another "big bad" that spanned another season, but I could also see Mason trying to track Hannibal in Italy and then, of course, meeting his doom there.

This article (thanks, Zoe) notes that while Fuller originally had a 7 season vision, with the way he's compressed things, he thinks they could do 6 seasons now.

And he is still trying to get Silence of the Lambs.

Thanks, Anton Sugar. Much appreciated.

My pleasure!

Hannibal (series and character) continues to be visually stunning, my god.

I can't wait for this, by far my favourite thing on TV right now.

season 3 hype, but its so far away..

michael pitt was a pretty good mason verger
rumors hes a flakey guy proven I guess

Trailer speculation: Will forgives Hannibal, but only in the memory palace. Is it his? Or Hannibal's? We just don't know - but I'd say it's Hannibal's. Just because he looks more affected by this statement.

If only Fuller's previous show, Pushing Daisies, got this much love :'(

To be fair, it's been renewed by the skin of its teeth each season. I think international support is a big reason why it's still on.

However, given the positive word-of-mouth and accolades that S2 received, I expect it to blow up in S3, comparatively.

Speculation (not really book spoilers, but more related to what we know about the season structure:
I think Hannibal will be caught mid-season, probably Episode 6 or 7. Time jump in Episode 8, where we come back, Will is married, and Jack needs his help with the Tooth Fairy.

Fuck yes...that was a fantastic trailer. I was hyped already, but I don't know how I'm going to endure the month's-long wait till summer.

As much as I wish for it to be true, it won't. We live in an echo chamber here, on GAF and different sites that obviously love Hannibal. But it's still is a niche show and it will remain niche, especially now, being pushed to summer.

I fear for it's fate. I have no doubt that NBC will be in no rush to renew it and then we'll have to wait even longer for next season (assuming the better option of there being the next season).

It's all very frustrating.

it's damn shame pitt doesn't return, I dislike recasts in general, but he was a great verger and is definitely a reason why I liked season 2 much more than season 1. I also hope they get rid of the monster of the week concept completely. It was already heavily curbed in season 2 and made for a much better show.

Paging Feran. I wonder what art she'll whip up for the S3 OT, now knowing that Dolarhyde is in :)

Yeah, I know :-\ I said the same about Season 2, haha. High hopes and all that.

I do think if it gets dropped, Amazon or Netflix would absolutely go after it.

Given what we know, it's likely safe to assume killer of the week is gone, at least for the majority of this season. Fuller has already stated the FBI won't be a big part of S3.

They cast the Italian inspector, so if anything, the "killer of the week" will just be Hannibal, getting his meal essentials.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
Had to google who Michael Pitt is, and holy shit! I'm a few seasons into Boardwalk Empire and had no idea that's the same dude.

For what it's worth, the high praise and the fervor over the season 2 finale(as well as Pitt) got me to jump back into the show after not feeling too hot over the first couple episodes. I don't know about "blowing up", but I wouldn't be shocked if it did better ratings-wise than season 2.

The only thing that really worries me is the source material, funny enough. We're rapidly approaching a point where the Will/Hannibal dynamic just won't be as fun/interesting/compelling as it has been up to this point. They'll have to get real creative about their encounters or the show could get a bit stale. I'd certainly enjoy it if the show, which is already quite daring, just completely goes off the deep end and really messes with our expectations on where the story is going/will end up. I mean hell, they already used our knowledge of
Freddie Lounds' death as a gag in season 2, so surely once we really get into the Red Dragon stuff, it won't be duplicated right?

I'm also not too thrilled about the proposed jump in time. It's encouraging that they didn't feel compelled to expand a 7 episode story into an entire season, but I worry the Red Dragon stuff won't be given enough time to breathe. Or maybe it will and it'll continue into the 4th season? Who knows. Regardless, it should be a lot of fun.

I am curious about the Hannibal/Will relationship. They've already explored so much with it, I'm not sure where they'll take it. Certainly, if (book/movie spoilers)
Hannibal is imprisoned in S3, they could do some interesting things. I mean, in the book/movie, Hannibal manipulates both Will AND Francis and pits them against each other. It will be weird seeing Mads' Hannibal be that vindictive.

And yeah, I'm not so sure about the time jump. Seems like something perfect for a season finale, or even a mid-season break (even though I hate those), it will be weird when it's just the next week and a year (or more) later.

6 episodes is a solid amount of time for the Tooth Fairy, I think. Consider that Mason Verger was only really in 3 or 4 episodes, and his "arc" or story is one of the most memorable parts of S2 for me.
