Today, the Xbox turns three in Japan. Happy Birthday!!

According to Enterbrain data, MS has managed to sell around 465,000 Xbox systems in Japan so far. Not bad -- can they break the 500,000 mark before Xbox 2 comes out??

It has many great exclusives. Japanese support? A console needs support from developers of all nations. That includes Japan, Canada, England, the US, etc. The trend is of course that Eastern developers are less of a force on the sales charts than they were 15, 10, and even 5 years ago.

Meanwhile, the Japanese market for home consoles hasn't gotten much bigger in that time, last I checked. ~20 million NES units sold lifetime, and the last count of PS2's for that region was around 20 million.

Man, 500K in three years is absolutely pathetic. I kind of feel bad for the people in charge of Xbox in Japan. They really did try to get a lot of stuff to appeal to the average consumer, but that's just sad.

I've heard they are cheap as hell there (2nd hand)...I have been thinking on purchasing one from a 2nd hand shop there and make it send them to me here.
I would also sell my PAL copy of JSRF and purchase a Japanese one...

Xbox is doing well in EU. Especially in UK

UK is only 1-6/7th of the Euro market, if that, and it`s still not doing "well" in UK. It`s being outsold massively by Sony also in the UK. Everywhere else xbox is a non-factor, especially in software sales.

Gregory, when I was working at PR I can remember the UK console and software buisness being more than Germany and France combined (population 140 million). The UK market is important and companies tend to seperate it from mainland Europe. At a guess I would think that UK is 25% of the total European market and considering it has 58 million population compared to 300million in Mainland Europe you can see why it an important area. And the Xbox is performing very well ,although the stock shortages have hampered it.
