Metallica
Ride The Lightning
Reload
Kill 'Em All
Death Magnetic
St. Anger

I haven't heard the new one yet, so we'll see where it falls in when I hear it. I have a soft spot for the self-titled, which is why it's above Ride. Also, I love Reload, but it's still significantly weaker than Load, so I usually list it lower. Though when Reload is good (Where The Wild Things Are, Fixxxer, Low Man's Lyric, etc.), it is damn good.

It's a damn good song, but no. not when DM has All Nightmare Long and That Was Just Your Life.

ANL is good, as is DM overall, but there's nothing on DM that I'd consider to be quite as good as I Disappear.

And yeah, Invisible Kid is garbage. Still better than anything off Lulu.

I should add that I love Death Magnetic. The only reason it's low is because I get more enjoyment out of the albums above it. But it's not low because it's bad or anything like that. I'm still fairly fond of it.

Haven't processed Hardwired enough to give it a fair rating, but it will probably fall somewhere in the middle.

If it sounds like I'm bashing I apologize, that's not my intent. I'm also not hating because it isn't thrash, as I've said my favorite song is Am I Savage (which I think is also better than anything on DM). I just want to hear them write something good, no use in crying about a change in direction 20+ years ago.

Halo Of Fire is also very, very good

No worries man, and the thrash comment wasn't directed at you, just some of the general reactions I've seen :p

For me though. My ranking right now is:
MoP
KeA
RTL
AJFA
HTSD/DM
Black
Load/Reload
St.Anger

But honestly there's stuff I like on every Metallica album.

You all rank Street Anger too low. I'll wait to hear this before making judgement but I'm definitely excited for this unlike Death Magnetic.

Like seeing all these differing lists. Metallica fan tastes are pretty diverse, and that's awesome as hell to me.

As far as St. Anger, it was on the bottom of my list as well. But I don't dislike it. I rather enjoy it, 'especially having watched Some Kind of Monster and seeing all the turmoil that went into making it. Metallica could have broken there, but they finished the record and pushed on. It may sound insane, but there is good stuff there. Frantic, St. Anger, Unnamed Feeling, All Within My Hands are my favs from the album.

Edit: I gotta add an edit to this.

There are parts of Load/ReLoad/St. Anger that I fucking love - but there is a lot of filler. I loved DM end to end....especially All Nightmare Long. Hardwired tho.....it's something else. It's truly that bridge between AJFA and Black and feels like the last truly "natural" Met album since Black (to me). SOTB is fucking LIT and Halo on Fire might be one of the best they ever written.

The fact that SO many people either love different songs and it's so decisive between fans, to me, tells me that Met did something right with this album - they created something that everyone has an opinion about, and more importantly, wrote at least one song that everyone likes.

Its not their best work - but it's their best in a quarter century.

Second edit: Changed the order. HWTSD has really grown on me.

I have a hard time grouping Black/Load/DM. I like DM's riffs the best but Black is very consistent. Load has some good stuff but some stinkers.

I probably will end up liking the music in Hardwired than KEA, but KEA is just so natural sounding

WOW! This album is fuckin' fantastic, it's like the Master, Black, and Load albums had a baby. I can see where some of you guys are saying that it bridges the gap between AJFA and Black too. I do see a lot of Load in this too just from some of the songs having the same kind of bluesy tones at certain parts.

So far Spit Out The Bone is my favorite song, such a balls out song.

I enjoyed Death Magnetic as it felt like they were back to form, but this album blows even that out of the water.

It's hard ranking some of these, especially when both Load and ReLoad have a lot of filler. There are enough songs that really good on both albums to make 1 solid album. St. Anger, even though is not a bad album tends to fall at the bottom of the list for me at times. The production with the snare drums just kills some of the songs. I so wish they could go back and re-engineer this album, it could sound so much better. I also love Kill 'Em All but the darn album just keep sliding lower in the list for me. AJFA has always been my top go to Met album.

After a couple of spins I can safely say that while it's a good record, I put it below their first five (well, of course) and Death Magnetic. I wish the latter had the mixing and mastering of Hardwired, but even without that I still like DM much better. I don't get why it's a double cd either, all their albums since Load have been lengthy (around 75-79 minutes), this is no exception, so put that shit on one cd. Favorite track is Here Comes Revenge.

Hardwired *
Death Magnetic *
Kill'em All

Reload
Load
St. Anger

* DM and Hardwired may end up swapping places long term.

I think it's interesting a lot of people have different songs they as their favorite.

Spit Out the Bone still my favorite (love the Stop Breathing, Dedicate to Me part) the video for that better have killer robots.

Atlas Rise and Moth still great and Hardwired is fun.

Halo on Fire probably the best off of Disc 1. Confusion is pretty good to start off Disc 2.

Only songs I can't quite get into yet is ManUNkind and Murder One. There's cool parts but not that memorable. Also those similar-ish intros on Disc 2 take too long.

Best

Ride the Lightning
Kill'em All
Master of Puppets
Metallica
...And Justice for All -> great songs but horrible production, sorry

Worst

All of the original releases after 'Metallica'. Some are just bad or below average, some are horrible.

Wow, you guys really hate Load. I personally like it a lot and I wish they would include songs like Until it Sleeps, Wasting My Hate, Hero of the Day or Ain't my Bitch again in their setlists.

I really like Metallica and my personal ranking of their albums changes all the time, but I think Justice is overrated, great songs but shit production and no bass.

I liked what I've heard from Harwired so far. Spit Out The Bone seems to be awesome from what I read from the leaks.
