Not feeling ManUnkind. Seems like a song that would go well on the radio though I suppose.

Digging Confusion. Maybe a little on the longside for me, but overall good.

Dream No More Ill keep trying. But much like ManUnkind, it still hasnt clicked with me.

The release of videos is pretty cool. Reminds me of the scavenger hunt thing they did with St Anger prior to its release with the videos of them playing the songs in studio that released with the CD.

Didn't love ManUnKind but I thought it was ok, the video is awesome though.

From what I read in the youtube comments, the director was part of the Scandinavian Black Metal scene in the 90s.

I'm a bit mad that St. Anger and Death Magnetic didn't have mixing/mastering on a similar level than Hardwired.

I mean how the fuck can a random YouTube guy make an album of the biggest metal band ever sound better all by himself?

Your either referring to the guy who literally covered St. Anger, thus making it "sound" better.
Or the Mobius stuff for DM, which, lets be honest, is still brick walled and shitty. But less shitty than the album.

Although I never got the hate for St. Anger's sound in terms of production quality. Its clearly a (weird) choice they made, not poorly produced like DM.

Edit: Yeah, that guy is replaying all the instruments, of course its going to sound different.

I listened to DM today and by God, Hardwired really had shown me how terribly produced DM is. James does great but the vocals just feel so flat. I still prefer DM to Hardwired but a decent remaster, if possible, or a re-recording altogether would be sweet.

Can you elaborate? Who's the youtube guy who fixed both those mixes? How do I find them? I didn't like the last two albums because the mix was terrible.

He didn't fix it, he just replayed it (with another guy doing the vocals) and it sounds better than the album. Ricker posted the link.

Disc 1 really is just about flawless. Confusion and ManUNkind are not bad songs, but they'd be better as B-Sides to a single or two. They really hurt the flow of the album IMO. But overall, holy shit I love this album.

I'm surprised the Guitar Hero version of DM isn't more well known. It's better mastered and is closer to HtSD (although not quite as good in my opinion). My roommate in college hooked me up with this version and it's the only one I've listened to until recently.

Yeah. That's what I listen to. Leave it to Metallica to release an album you're better off pirating. I figure I bought the DLC for the game, anyway. iTunes has a "Mastered for iTunes" version that's supposed to be improved over the CD release as well.

They did do a slight tweaking with the master for iTunes to get the Mastered for iTunes label. Sounds very much improved. Then they released it in their store (along with their back catalog) at compressed and lossless bitrates.

PM for details.

The original mix was trash, only sounds good with the speaker system inside a car. Which is how they apparently listened to it while on tour.

It's funny how the Internet generation (Gen Y?) whinge about the production quality of Death Magnetic when Justice has always been fucken terrible, probably hands down the worst imo. But back then 28 yrs ago no one really complained about production quality, they just said it was too "droney". Now people say how bad DM is. Personally I thought it was the best album since Justice, but then I'm old old old school. ;-)

So, how are first time listeners liking the new songs?

it feels like a hybrid of their 80s and 90s sound minus the heavy pop sound that showed up in the mid-later 90s (like their cover of Whiskey in a Jar)

it sounds like this band is comfortable in their own skin again, is the best way to describe it

It was sad that Rock Band didn't get more Metallica, their version of .. And Justice for All is super clean up and clear.

Lars put his drums on the maximum volume possible, it clips all the time. At least in AJFA there's no clipping

My first time hearing the new songs. I really like Dream No More and Now That We're Dead. Whoever said this sounds like the album that should have came out after Load is correct. So far so good.

would it be anticlimactic if it's just behind the scenes videos with the guys hanging out and rehearsing the song and doing multiple takes of riffs and beats and stuff?

Old men at Guitar Center working on Spit Out the Bone.

Yeah that'll suck, but I feel like we already got a ton of performance videos. I'm hoping/expecting another narrative one.

That would be very anticlimactic based on the past few videos. It would be amusing to see them show up to a Guitar Center and play the song.

My tinea must hide that because I have no idea what clipping is. All I know is that DM is my most listened to album since pre Black albums.

Man it must had been cold on that set!

Also what kind of drumkit is that Lars? Come on lol
