Ok thanks! That's good to hear. I mean I got the free download so I can listen to the album but it's not the same. I wanna rip open the package and smell the album itself. Know what I'm saying??

Sending email now lol

Listening to the album now - a couple songs sound Re-Loadish, aka, slow and boring with no energy or emotion. Dream No More and Halo on Fire. They sound more like Jam songs than epic Metallica thrash metal.

But then Moth to Flame and Spit out the Bone are really fucking good songs.

This is like a 50/50 album so far. Some songs are awesome. Some are borderline annoying.

I need to listen more though.

Dream no More might as well be The Thing that Should Not Be 2 There were songs like that on their older stuff and certainly the Black Album.

I can understand that you don't like the Re-Load sound but no energy or emotion? I don't get this at all.

I don't hear it.

There's like a whole middle section of this album that sounds like ReLoad Part 2.

They put the best couple of songs at the beginning and the end of the disc. The rest sounds like 1 really long song off Reload.

But, just my opinion!

I think Death Magnetic is a better album overall, so far as songs go. This album has better recording/mixing, but I like the actual songs better on Death Magnetic.

Just my opinion though! Feel free to hate or disagree.

You like me, you really really like me!
Almost done with my first listen of the album. First impressions are "meh". Sounds like mid-90s soft rock Metallica. I really enjoyed Death Magnetic so maybe my expectations are too high.

Had a full listen through this evening. Really really enjoyed it.

I listened to the first CD this morning so was worried about the the second part not being as good but it still really impressed me.

Not my go to genre any more either, but I appreciate good music.

This is good music.

Half the album is great, half is so-so.

Moth to Flame and Spit Out the Bone are fantastic, along with Hardwired, should be great for live performances.

Can't wait for them to announce the US tour

Well, did you enjoy Load? I feel Reload was crap, but after listening back Load, i found myself liking a lot of songs i didnt enjoy when it was release.

Some songs feel like Kill-Em All-Ride-Master-AJFA, somes feel like Black Album, some feel like Load, and Am i Savage feel like a shitty Reload track. IMO here is how i see them

Kill-Em All-Ride-Master-AJFA Feel:

- Harwired
- Atlas Rise
- Moth Into the Flame
- Spit Out the Bone

Black Album Feel
- Dream No More ( mix Black-Load, really amazing song!)
- Halo on Fire
- Here Comes Revenge ( seriously, this song could have been the Best Black Album song)

Load Feel:

- Now That We're Dead
- Confusion ( no into this one, really )
- Manunkind
- Murder One

Reload Feel:

- Am i Savage ( it really suck, well for me )

Overall, as much as i enjoy Death Magnetic, i can say this album is better. I really like 8 out of the 12 songs, having no or mid interest in Am i Savage, Confusion, Murder One and Now that Were Dead, the rest, i pretty much enjoy it a lot!

Give it a chance. If your just seeking Thrash, heavy sounds from old school and have spit on Black and Load because it was different, maybe you will enjoy just 3-4 songs. But really its a very good album. Here Comes Revenge take my spot of being the amazing surprise for me!

Fucking Amazon. I emailed em and can't get the cd till the 28th they said they'd upgrade shipping to one day

Man Amazon has been falling off lately

It's interesting that while Spit Out the Bone seems to be a lead favorite, others have a different favorite and they're spread around the album. That's pretty cool.

Mine is Spit Out the Bone or Halo on Fire. But sometimes it's Moth or Atlas. I hated Now That We're Dead but I can get into it now and like the end of it a lot. Also Dream No More and Here Comes Revenge are fun

I don't know, this seems like it could have been done on purpose. A decent amount of delays and pushing the digital/streaming service while overnight/one day shipping other things? Eh... I'll be in a corner with a tinfoil hat >.>

Yea my whole thing is it was a guarentee preorder! That's why I'm upset. But yea, maybe Amazon is up to some shenanigans

Edit; here comes revenge is awesome

I see your 89 and 91 shows, and also would like to add:

Metallica Puppets tour bootleg

The raw speed an energy is definitely worth seeing. Watching Battery and Master played super fast is something to behold. Cant imagine how amazing it was hearing that battery intro kicking in back in 86 when the album was still the latest and greatest.

Jesus lol...I can hardly recognise Battery...guess they where into speed or cocaine back then...?

Yea, there is atleast 1 song that kinda represents every Metallica era on this album.

Unfortunately, I only hear 2 or 3 from the era I liked the best.

I hated Reload, except Devil's Dance. Load was OK, but it's low on the list. Until it Sleeps was good on that album. Songs like Ronnie and ...I can't even remember the others. They were terrible and annoying.

Those two albums, back to back, killed my vision of Metallica. Prior to that, I could enjoy every single song on every single album without skipping any. But since Load, I just make mixes with a song or two here and there from those albums. I no longer can stomach a full play-through of them.

I guess that's why the mid-section of this album killed the buzz for me. It sounds like bunch of Load/Reload songs.

IMO - Spit out the Bone is the best song on the album, followed by Moth into Flame.

I got those 2 on repeat.

I'll re-listen to the rest though to give them another chance. But I usually know right away if a song has a hook I like or not.

-Just my opinion though. I'm no authority on anything.

:)

Yeah I've come to the conclusion I prefer Death amagnetic to this. I like most of the songs on Hardwired but Magnetic's songs were more dynamic imo and seemed to have more energy. Hetfield's voice does slay on this though.

That's funny, since to me damn near all of the songs on DM felt bloated, overlong and really lifeless. Like they were forcing them out and didn't really have any intensity behind them. Even the ones I like off that album kinda have that same feeling.

In comparison HTSD is like a breath of fresh air since it finally sounds genuine and (relatively speaking) concise. The songs flow better and have an actual groove to them, as well as the band as a whole having this drive behind them.

Gonna be interesting to see how this one ends up being received once the hype dies down and all the dust settles. I'm kinda suspecting all the love will turn to hate in a few months' time, but we'll see.

Christ Metallica fans are worse than the military when it comes to acronyms and abbreviations. I can't understand half this thread.

I love Moth Into Flame, Halo On Fire and Spit Out the Bone.

Hardwired, Atlas Rise! and Confusion are also great.

The rest are really not doing it for me. Just mediocre, not bad, but not that good either.

I'll have to listen to this more, but at least now I think Death Magnetic was overall better. Production-wise, Hardwired is a lot better though. So much cleaner sound!

Based on my experiences in both circles, Iron Maiden fans are even worse. Everything that can be shortened into an acronym, will be. Doesn't matter if it forces everyone to think for 10 or more seconds what song is being discussed.

-Those 4 right there are my favorite songs on this album. So, yea, I'm a Kill-Ride-Master-Justice Era fan.

Heavy, fast, dynamic with good vocal hooks. Hell, even the drumming is pretty tight, if not too complicated.

I mean, personally, I don't like it when bands do that. It feels like a 'jack of all trades' album. I'd much rather have a stronger and consistent album that took me a while to get into, then one that has 'a little bit for everybody.' Those are never any bands greatest albums.
