A Harley Street doctor hid a woman's terminal cancer from her so he could carry on billing for 'unconventional' treatment, a tribunal heard.

Dr Mark Bonar gave the inoperable woman false hope when he should have been recommending proper end-of-life care , it is alleged.

Instead, it is claimed the 38-year-old GP gave her ill-deserved confidence in the potentially dangerous intravenous feeding treatment he offered her.

Dr Bonar - who reportedly charges private patients £150 for a 15 minute appointment - also allegedly claimed the American woman could not receive emergency NHS treatment as she was not a British citizen and said contact could only be made with public health officials "after a long delay."

But nurses instructed to help the woman realised her situation was critical and took just 24 hours to get her access to NHS treatment.

She died two months later aged 46.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service was told self-proclaimed 'philanthropist' Dr Bonar, who practices from the Omniya clinic in central London, had been asked to treat the American woman shortly after she arrived in the UK from her home country after she fell ill with cervical cancer.

On her arrival in London in October 2012 to be closer to her sister, she stayed at the £450-per-night Athenaeum Serviced Apartments in Mayfair where nurses, carers and hotel staff could see to her needs.

But in May 2013, the woman - referred to as Patient A - was admitted to the Wellington Hospital for a medical procedure after the cancer began obstructing her bowel.

While receiving treatment, scans taken showed the cancer had spread, there was no hope for a cure and the only medical treatment required would be palliative care to make sure her death would be as comfortable as possible.

But when Patient A went back to see Dr Bonar, of Westminster, London, neither he nor fellow treating GP Dr Siegfried Trefzer, 58, told her about the results of the scans and continued to treat her at the Athenaeum apartments where she hoped for a cure, it is said.

Dr Bonar, said to be a cellular ageing specialist who offers treatments using nutritional medicine, instead offered the woman 'total parenteral nutrition' [TPN] - a form of intravenous feeding which carries risk of infection and blood imbalances.

And of course the guy turns out to be a quack too. Giving TPN to a patient who can actually feed herself, really? I guess he didn't feel like settling for just one egregious ethical breach, he wanted to go for a combo while he was at it. What a piece of shit. Complete disgrace to the profession. Strip him of his license and indict him on something.

Could you imagine being led to believe that yourself or a love one had a chance of survival only to find out it was a fucking scam?

Horrible.

Kinda mind boggling

The TPN may have been necessary due to the bowel obstruction, but the rest is terrible
